"She's here?" A voice questioned.
"Oh!"
Janine quickly turned around, met by the man the voice was coming from.
"Pardon my surprise." He chuckled.
"Well, come in...we have much to discuss." He smiled.
"Mm..." Janine nodded.
As the three sat down, the man held out a plate of pastries.
"Would you like one?" He asked.
"No thank you." Janine said, shaking her head.
"More for me." Mim chuckled.
"Well, I suppose it's about time I introduce myself, huh?" The man said, relaxing himself in his seat.
"That would be nice." Janine said.
"You can call me Larkin." The man smiled.
"What exactly do you do Larkin?" Janine asked, sitting up.
"Well..." Larkin turned to Mim.
"He's trying to gain inhuman strength...or somethin' like that." Mim shrugged.
"So you don't even know your own bosses ambitions..." Janine frowned.
"Does my boss even know his own ambitions..." Mim muttered.
"Mim!" Larkin exclaimed.
"Thank you very much, that's enough!" Larkin laughed nervously.
"What's in it for us?" Janine asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Well..." Larkin frowned.

"You cannot possibly count on others if you won't give anything to them in return." She glared.
"ah, well..." Larkin began sweating profusely.
"The boss gave me a purpose." Mim spoke up.
"A purpose...?" Janine turned to him.
"Yep." He closed his eyes smiling.
"That's nice and all, but how about a paycheck?" She frowned.
Mim quickly turned to Larkin.
"Yeah...how 'bout a paycheck?" He said, givingan annoyed smile.
"Why don't you do something besides laying around, and perhaps then I'll consider it." Larkin glared.
"Ok, well I'm out." Janine said, getting up.
"W-wait!" Larkin cried.
"You'd be the brains of the operation, and if you do the work, I will be more than happy to pay you!" He exclaimed.
"Plus, we get free housing here." Mim shrugged.
"Janine please, we need you." Larkin said, grabbing her hand.
Janine's eyes widened.
"Y-you..." She stammered.
"Need me...?" She whispered.
"I know we can count on you and your mind." Larkin said.
"Really...?" She asked.
"Y-yes really!" Larkin exclaimed.
"I wouldn't have chosen you if I didn't find you as the right fit for our team." He smiled.
Tears welled in Janine's eyes.
"Yo, somethin' wrong JJ?" Mim asked.
"No, it's just..." She took her gla.s.ses off, wiping away a tear.
"I've never been needed before..." She smiled.
Larkin and Mim turned to each other and smiled.
"Welcome to the team, Janine." Larkin said, closing his eyes.
