A voice could be heard speaking, briefing them about their status as psionics and their mission on the Groot Colony that they had arrived to.
"Welcome everyone to your home for next two years, we citizens of Groot Colony extend our hands in a warm welcome to the special unit that you will be part of in protecting the colony for the duration of your stay here. As some of you may know, your status here will not be different compared to natural citizens on this colony. As part of the agreement for your stay each and everyone here will be given a indefinite right to stay here and live as long as you want, with rights equal to a normal citizen of Groot Colony. I will now hand you over to your new field commander who will be overseeing your training and active duties on this colony."
Moving off the front of the stage, the man who was the amba.s.sador of Groot Colony showed his experience as a politician clearly by welcoming the new group to the colony while trying to draw a closer line between the group for the interests of his territory. However none of the recruits gave any further attention to what he had said, after all they were only here for the duration of their contract, with a boundless future of opportunities in front of them if they could finish the contract for their employment. Whether any of the recruits even contemplated the idea of staying behind after their contract was needless to be said. Even animals could differentiate between what was good for them, what more people like them who had only chosen this route after much contemplation with clear goals in mind: the high mortality rate of the artificial awakening was too high after all.
Glancing at the recruits around him Clay could clearly see that some of them knew each other. But unlike them each face looked like a stranger to him.
A stern faced man soon approached the front of the hall where a small stage had been raised to address the crowd.
"Congratulations, it is a honour to meet with potential recruits that have made it so far. My name is Colonel Lambshawks." A bright aura seemed to radiate from the man in front of him, putting everyone at awe. Even Clay could feel himself slightly become intimidated by the ferocious gaze that Colonel Lambshawks directed at the group of more than forty individuals who stood to attention in the hall.
"Some of you may already know and some are still learning about their abilities. For the duration of your contract you will be coming to terms with your new found abilities and status as psionics."
Psionics, a word that was used to describe those who had awakened. 'Things would change from here', Clay couldn't help but have this thought surface in his mind as he listed to the their field commander.
"For now you will be split into squadrons of eight man teams which will undergo further training and specialisation for your active duties in the field. Please come out when I call your name."
Calculating in his head, Clay knew that meant that there would be a total of five groups that would be made exclusively of psionics. From the brief details that he had learned about and his own experience after awakening, psionics were a group that had awakened an ability due to the exposure to stimuli or stress that acc.u.mulated by their body actively utilising the psi energy waves that naturally existed around them.
The ability of an individual would depend on their own experience and process in how they awakened, of course because of the fact that everyone present had awakened under an artificial awakening treatment, it was clear that the level of talent or abilities that they displayed happened to largely overlap, with many having a similar form of ability.
By utilising the psi energy stored in their body they could display a talent that defied human sense, control of air or matter, the ability to warp metal or change a material or even materialise or create an animate creature. Nothing was impossible, however all abilities depended on the individual, like with all things, a limit was imposed on psionics, the extend to how well they could use their abilities and how long depended on them. Each body had an inherent characteristic and a limit to how much psi energy their body could store. for Clay he could feel the storage of psi energy simply inside himself as a shape resembling a small urn that seemed to contain infinite possibilities.
"Xander Young, Morrision Smith, Tulipa Amber, Maris Sullivan..." the list of the names of each squadron was read out, bringing Clay back to focusing on the call of his name, away from his thoughts of psionics and abilities.
"...Jigme Chokphel."
Realising that his name had been called, Clay calmly walked towards the small cohort that he would be working with for the next two years. His gaze remained steady as he evaluated the group in front of him made of a mixture of three girls and four boys. 'Everyone looks so young...'
