Long Yu and Xixi were heading towards Changsha city. He now felt more confident about crossing the city after upgrading his car.
Along the way, he was able to harvest some abandoned cars, which at the same helped him removed the obstacles blocking the road. Although most of them were damaged due to crashing, causing the price to fall dramatically, Long Yu did not complain. It was free money anyway.
When they finally saw the sign pointing to the city, the sky had already turned orange from the sunset. After contemplating for a while, Long Yu decided against camping outside the city for the night. Although it might be safer, it would also waste precious time. As long as the threats were only zombies, his car alone should be able to deal with them.
Before they entered, Long Yu pressed a few b.u.t.tons on the dashboard screen. Immediately, the growling engine turned silent and all that could be heard from it was a soft hum.
Since the original manufacturer's made the Black Shark based on the scenario of an apocalypse, they did not forget to add some nifty mechanisms into the car. The function Long Yu just activated allowed for the engine's loud sound to be minimized in order not to attract attention. At the same time, the car's speed would also be limited to a certain extent.
Next, he rolled down the window before sticking his hand out. Within his palm was a fist-sized spherical black object. Long Yu swung his hand upwards, causing it to fly high up into the air. As it reached its highest point, the sphere suddenly transformed. Six spider-like legs and a pair of transparent wings unfolded themselves, rapidly changing the sphere into the form an insect. The drone hovered obediently in the air, as if waiting for instructions.
[Insect-type Surveillance Drone]
[A mini drone designed in the form of a flying insect. When deactivated, the drone will transform into a compact sphere for ease of carry]
[Controlled by user through the use of a telepresence headset.
Equipped with night and infrared vision]

Long Yu withdrew his hand from the window and put on a pair of moon shaped headset. It was a black flexible band which wrapped around the back of his head. Attached to it were several probes that rested on certain areas of his skull. A rectangular transparent lens connected to the headpiece also covered his right eye.
Following the instructions on the manual, Long Yu stuck the earbuds on both sides into his ears and softly tapped the b.u.t.ton on the side of the headset twice. A beep could be heard before an interface appeared on the lens.
As expected, he could control the interface just by thinking. Within it contained various commands that could be relayed to the drone.
Long Yu selected the manual cruise mode and controlled the drone. Above the car, the drone started flying around and performed several manoeuvres.
Once he was satisfied with the calibration, he commanded the drone to rise to a high alt.i.tude before flying towards the city.
Through the telepresence headset, Long Yu was able to see the situation around the city captured by the drone. Although some areas were blocked by various high rise buildings, it did not alleviate the depressing mood of the city.
The streets were littered with crashed vehicles, and the only things moving around were limping figures of zombies. Lots and lots of them.
With a population of over 7 million humans, even if just 1/10th of them turned, it would have been a disaster. Of course, hoping for such a small number was a joke. Long Yu knew that the number of humans that initially failed to mutate in this city would be at least be 7 to 8 times of that number.
Just as Long Yu was about to scout further with the drone, the loud roar of an engine relayed by the drone's audio system attracted his attention.
Zooming in, he could see the image of a van along with hundreds of zombies chasing behind it, driving down one of the streets. It seems that the people inside the van were trying to escape from the city.
Long Yu quickly realised that the direction that the van was driving in was towards them.
's.h.i.t! How troublesome!' he cursed in his mind before swiftly switching off the engine.
Not long after, the van zoomed past them, with a hungry pack of zombies still trailing from behind. Thanks to the tinted windows and Long Yu's quick reaction, they had gone unnoticed by the herd of zombies.
