The sound of uneven footsteps could be heard across the dim-lit hall of an apartment building.

The multiple large cracks in the grey concrete walls showed the terrible condition that the building was in.

Some of the lights on the hall's ceiling were also flickering, as if protesting that they wish to work no more.

It truly looked as if a scenario from a horror show was about to happen.

Long Yu unlocked the creaking door to the miserable looking apartment that he had been staying in, since he moved to Nanjing city.

Due to his absence for almost a month, the place was now coated in a thin layer of dust.

Long Yu walked in without removing his shoes, heading straight for his bed. He bent down and used his hands to rummage under the bed for a few seconds, before taking out a metal coin box.

There was a melancholic smile on Long Yu's face as he softly stroked the coin box. Inside were the contents which belonged to Luo Xi. It was also where he previously found the jade pendant.

He removed the cover of the box and looked inside. What was left were the money in notes and coins, that Luo Xi collected, as well as a picture they took together a long time ago.

In the picture, Long Yu was holding her little hand and they were both posing for the camera. Him, being the awkward person he was, his smile didn't exactly look natural. Luo Xi on the other hand, had a smile so bright that it could almost rival the sun.

Long Yu felt as if the heavens was playing with him. It had granted him the power that he wanted, yet, at the same time, it had also shattered his chance at a peaceful life.

With the system, he now had the chance to bring back Luo Xi. However, could he bear to do so?

Even if he managed to bring her back, the world would not be the same anymore.

There would be no amus.e.m.e.nt parks, no picnics, no cruise ships. None of those activities, which he initially planned to let her enjoy when he first received the system, would be possible anymore.

The future would only be filled with danger and unimaginable threats.

Will she hate him for bringing her to such a world? He did not know, nor did he want to think about it.

With a wave of his hand, a medium-sized black tactical backpack appeared in Long Yu's hand. Then, he closed the metal coin box before gently sliding it into the backpack.

Temporarily placing the backpack down, Long Yu went to his bed side to fetch the cremation urn which contains Luo Xi's ashes. He blew the dust of its metallic surface, and took it to the bathroom to clean it.

10 minutes later, Long Yu came out with the cremation urn cradled in his hands. It had just been thoroughly cleaned and polished.

Long Yu would always do this every fortnight to keep it clean. However, since he had left for almost a month this time, he spent a little longer than usual this time.

Then, Long Yu safely kept the urn into the backpack as well, before carrying it on his back. After taking one last glance at his room, he left the apartment.

Once he exited the apartment building, Long Yu went to a more secluded area nearby, before connecting to the system.

'System, show me a list of vehicles that would be suited for surviving doomsday.'

After a silent beep of affirmation, a list appeared on the holographic screen.
