Knight: Over The Edge Part 28

Justin says with a laugh as he sits at the table. His grin from ear to ear.

"Did you know too?"

"I didn't for sure... I suspected." he says to me.

"Am I the only one who had no clue?"

"No son I didn't either and I'm not sure how I feel about it."

My dad's eyes cut back and forth between Julie and Luke. Before settling on my sister who slouches in her seat under his intent gaze. For a brief moment I feel sorry for her.

"Alright guys enough. She's an adult and can decide what she does with her life without you b.u.t.ting in" Kat says to us calmly.

"She's my little sister."

"Yes who's the same age I am. So if it's not okay for her then it's not okay for me and that means you don't get none."

She answers me with a little c.o.c.kiness to her tone.

Justin busts out laughing.

"She's got you there bro" then he shoves pancake in his mouth.

"Kitten it's different" I start.

"NO it f.u.c.king isn't now shut up before you make it worse for yourself," she says through clenched teeth.

"Cole you're making her mad at you again. That never ends well," Seth speaks up.

Seth's words are like cold water drenching me. My little brother is right I'm in enough trouble with Kat.

"Yea I'm already in trouble."

"Yep so you might want to keep your mouth shut and not make it worse."

Out of the mouth of babes... I can't help laughing at my little brother's wise words.

"I'll take that into consideration."

Kat ruffles the hair on Seth's head as she smiles warmly at him then her eyes cut to me and I get the stare down that tells me I'm in trouble.

f.u.c.k me.

I don't want my sister hurt. I want to make sure the guy is good enough for her. That he's not after the Knight fortune. I admit I like Luke even though I haven't wanted too but I don't know if I like him enough to let him date my sister. That's a whole lot different from being friends with someone.

I glance over at Luke and once again, I can't help admiring the guy. He is sitting up straight and not showing any signs of weakness. He picks his fork up and I note his hand is steady. Oh, this is not good. I can see it now he's in love with my sister. He's going to fight for her. He won't let us scare him off as so many before him have.

I sigh.

Maybe it will be good for Julie to have a man who finally loves her for her not who she is or what she can do for them.

I will stick to my word. After breakfast I will talk to Kat and listen to what she has to say so that I don't mess this up. The last thing I want to do is hurt Julie. She had enough trauma as a teenager.

I place my dirty dishes in the tray on the buffet. I lean down as I pa.s.s Kat.

"I'll be in our room waiting to speak with you first" I say softly. I can do this for Kat and for my sister.

She wipes her mouth with the napkin.

"Go put my dishes on the tray" her voice has softened from what is just a few moments ago.

"If y'all excuse us we need to go have a conversation before Cole does something really stupid"

Chuckles come from around the table I give everyone a hard look, but my dad is still laughing even after everyone else stops.

"Whatever old man."

I call out to him as I follow Kat out of the room.

We walk quietly up the stairs to our room. I open the door for her letting her go in before me.

"How long has it been going on?"

I ask calm as I can manage. Even if inside I feel like ranting that Kat didn't say anything to me.

"I figured it out around the time Trish died. They confirmed it but weren't ready to tell the family because they hadn't even talked about what they were to each other."

She pats the couch beside her. I sit down.

"So this has been going on about a month."

I pull her into me so that I can hold her while we talk. I need to touch her always.

"Something like that. You'll not make a scene over this Cole. Let them make their own mistakes just like we did."

She sighs.

"It may get ugly, or it may not, but let them make their own choices don't interfere with their relationship please."

I process what Kat is saying to me and I get where she is coming from. She is right I need to let it go. Julie should be able to live her own life. It's hard enough being a Knight without having your big brother run your love life.

"Fine I'll let it go but can I at least have the big brother talk with Luke?"

Chuckles leave my kitten's lips.

"Yea you can have the big brother talk with him."

She leans over and kisses me before heading into the bathroom to shower and dress for her work day.

I sit on the couch still mulling everything over in my mind. A light knock sounds on the door. Answering the door I see Julie and Luke standing there. Julie looks apprehensive but Luke maintains his confidence.

"Julie I'm good with it. Whoever you want to date is your business not mine."

Relief crosses her face.

"Thank you thank you!" she exclaims throwing her arms around me in a hug.

I watch as Luke's face softens while he looks at my little sister. This is going to be hard to deal with.

"I love you sis. Now let me speak to Luke alone please."

I motion Luke inside to the sitting area.

"Cole" Julie starts.

"It's okay Julie nothing bad will happen I promise" then I quietly shut the door.

As I turn to face Luke my tone gets a little gruff.

"You hurt her and I'll kill you, we understood."

"Man I totally get it. That last thing I want to do is hurt your sister though. I love her. I never thought I would find that one. I envied my brother for years."

He is pacing the room back and forth and I watch as he thinks about things.

"My brother found his one living next door to us. I never dreamed my one would live across the country from me. I found her when I least expected it."

"Oh, you have it bad."

I say drily. I can't help feeling for him. I feel the same way about my Kitten. I don't know how I lived all the years I did without her by my side.

"Aww are you two having a moment."

My kitten's voice breaks through and I look up to see her standing there in a bathrobe her hair up in a towel.

"Shut up, men don't have moments." Luke says to her.

"Yea, what he said."

"Oh geeze, now y'all are ganging up on me together. I don't know if I like this at all."

She walks back into the bathroom her laughter trailing behind her.

"I hate that I like you. It makes it harder to hate you dating my sister." I say to him.

"I get it man. I would expect you, Justin, h.e.l.l even Seth to come after my a.s.s if I did something to Julie. But I think you would have to beat Kat. She threatened to cut my b.a.l.l.s off if I hurt her sister."

"Ouch. My girl don't mess around does she?"

I say with a smile. I can't help that I'm proud of her for sticking up for her family.

"I'm more afraid of Kat then you right now."

"Truth be told I don't blame you. I kind of fear the woman myself."

Luke and I share a laugh. He leaves me sitting on the couch when Kitten comes out dressed for work. I give her a kiss before sauntering into the bathroom to get ready for work myself.

Chapter 26.

Kat Gracie greets us as we walk into the office.

"Good morning Cole and Kat."

"Gracie you have a calendar for next year" Cole asks her.

Gracie pulls open a drawer and brings out a book.

"Yea here."

I hear the question in her tone the same one I have. What the h.e.l.l is going on? Cole flips through stopping on a page turning the book toward me.

"Pick a date, any date on this page that you like."

I'm not sure what he is up to but I look at the year at a glance page and as I glance over it a date calling out to me immediately.

"July 25th"

"Great Gracie mark that date as our wedding day."

"Excuse me?"

My hand are on my hips. My eyes wide and my mouth hanging open. Did he just say our wedding day? Who does he think he is?

"We're getting married I just let you pick the date."

"You're an a.s.shole" I say to Cole.

"But I'm your a.s.shole."

He calls over his shoulder as he walks into his office leaving me standing there next to an equally stunned Gracie.

"Did he just propose to you in some caveman fashion" she asks bewildered.
