Chapter 1266 - 1266 Writing a Statement
1266 Writing a Statement
The next day, Qiao Mei woke up at dawn. Recently, Qiao Mei had discovered a new way to use the jade pendant. After she made a simple exchange of energy with the jade pendant, she would become in sync with it. For a brief period, she could communicate with the jade pendant and request it to vibrate at a fixed time, like a mini alarm clock.
Qiao Mei had tested it many times, but the jade pendant did not always vibrate at the correct time. Sometimes, the timing could be off by up to an hour. The energy was still not very stable. Qiao Mei had only discovered this function by chance and had not reached the point where she could make it work every time. She still needed to play around with it for a while.
She decided to study it more closely when she had free time in the future. There were still too many secrets about this jade pendant that she had not discovered. For now, Qiao Mei still had to go to the hospital to take care of Qian’e. She did not know if Zheng Peng would be able to break free from Zheng Su’s “imprisonment” and come to the hospital to take care of Qian’e.
Rather than waste time wondering if she could count on Zheng Peng, she might as well go to the hospital to take care of Qian’e herself! Qian’e was mainly feeling unwell because her gastrointestinal problems had worsened. It was not a big issue and she would recover after drinking ginseng juice for two to three days.
Xia Zhe held Qiao Mei’s hand and said, “Why are you being so diligent? In the past, you wouldn’t even get up before noon.”
“Qian’e is still in the hospital and there’s no one to take care of her. I have to go and help out. What if there’s still an outstanding payment or something? Someone needs to be there,” Qiao Mei said patiently.
“Ask Luo Yu to go. There’s no need for you to do these things yourself,” Xia Zhe complained.
Qiao Mei looked at Xia Zhe and how he was behaving like the wife in the relationship. He acted like Qiao Mei was the heartless man who was abandoning him, the “delicate wife”, for another woman.
“Are you jealous?” Qiao Mei asked Xia Zhe curiously.
“How is this jealousy! I’m just… feeling sorry for you!” Xia Zhe sat up abruptly and explained.
The more he tried to explain, the more Qiao Mei felt that he might as well not say anything! Qiao Mei went up to Xia Zhe and gave him a kiss before running out the door. Xia Zhe sat on the bed in frustration and looked at the empty room. When Qiao Mei returned, there was going to be payback! He would note down all these debts one by one! He would make Qiao Mei pay them back slowly in the future!
Qian’e could already sit up to eat her food today. Although she still looked very weak, it was good that she had the motivation to go on.
“How do you feel today? Do you miss me?” Qiao Mei asked happily.
Qian’e just smiled faintly at Qiao Mei and did not say anything. Qiao Mei looked at the caregiver in puzzlement and the caregiver pulled Qiao Mei into the living room.
“Miss Qiao, I think Miss Qian might have some psychological problems. The doctor already came to check her vocal cords this morning and there’s no problem, but no matter who poses questions to her, she just won’t answer. The police also came around to visit her this morning, but she didn’t say a word. She indicated that she won’t believe anyone until she sees you,” the caregiver said worriedly.
“I’ll think of a way. Thank you,” Qiao Mei said gently.
“Sigh… This child has a really tough life. When I look at her, it’s as if I’m looking at my own daughter,” the caregiver said melancholically.
“Yes, her life is indeed tough,” Qiao Mei said.
Qiao Mei handed the soup she brought to the caregiver. She had specially added two drops of the 1,000-year-old ginseng juice into the soup! After drinking this soup, Qian’e would definitely recover faster. However, when it came to psychological problems, Qian’e still had to figure it out herself in order to get better.
She walked back into the room slowly and sat down beside Qian’e, saying softly, “Qian’e, can you tell me what happened that day? The police need you to tell them what exactly happened. Otherwise, it might affect Ma San’s sentencing.”
Qiao Mei knew that Qian’e would be willing to do anything if it was related to Ma San.
Qian’e reached out and traced the word “paper” on Qiao Mei’s palm. Qiao Mei quickly found a pen and a notebook for her. Qian’e wrote down everything she experienced in the past few days, making sure she did not leave out any details.
Qiao Mei stood at one side and read as Qian’e wrote. She wished that she could cut Ma San into pieces and pull out all his tendons and bones. Even then, it still would not get rid of the hatred in her heart!
When Qian’e finished, shee signed her name at the bottom of the letter. Qiao Mei did not brought an inkpad with her, so Qian’e bit her finger and then pressed it against the letter. That bright red mark was like a symbol of her determination. Then, she handed the statement to Qiao Mei. The look of antic.i.p.ation and pleading in her eyes left an indescribable feeling in Qiao Mei’s heart.
