Chapter 2563 The Withered Spirit Daoist's Memories
Having a.s.similated Yao Changying's memories, Lin Mu finally understood her goals and why she had done what she did.
"Desperation and survival… Even though she had no obvious threat, she herself created one for her, thinking that all she had lived for would be for naught," Lin Mu muttered to himself.
It was something he could actually understand and even resonate with. But would he take the same path as Yao Changying? That was hard to tell.
'Perhaps if my circ.u.mstances were different, I might have ended up the same way,' he thought to himself.
Without the ring and Xukong's guidance, Lin Mu's fate could have been a lot different.
Had he only found the ring, while he would have strength, he probably would not have reached the level he was at today. There was a high chance that he might have still been back in the Xiaofan World, struggling to learn about the cultivation world.
He may have even been killed by others, envious of his skills. That was actually the most likely thing to have happened.
And without the ring, there was no way Lin Mu would have found Xukong. He might have died back in the forest after being exiled.
He would never have managed to avenge his parents, nor find out the truth about what had really happened to them.
~sigh~
"She was human in the end… her flaws were too much for her to bear," Lin Mu shook his head.
The Withered Spirit Daoist, though, was an entirely different person. The memories Lin Mu saw of her weren't complete and didn't start from her childhood like they did for Yao Changying.
There were blank s.p.a.ces in between that were probably due to the fragmenting of her soul and the time that had pa.s.sed. Some parts could be figured out simply through logic, but there were some that were simply incomprehensible.
Regardless of this, Lin Mu did his best to understand them.
After all, he was still confused about the Withered Spirit Daoist's true goals. Of course, he knew that she wished to revive and become a True Celestial, but the method behind it was still unknown.
Lin Mu began to pry into her memories and went to the earliest one he could find.
~SHUA~
"So this is her when she was younger…" Lin Mu saw the Withered Soul Daoist when she was probably around twenty or so, appearance-wise.
Her cultivation was also at the Dao Treading Realm, so it was clear that she was talented even back then.
She was cultivating hard along with hundreds of other people, all of whom were wearing the same kind of robes.
"Hmm… strange. What place is this?" Lin Mu wondered, as this looked like a cultivation sect.
He continued to watch and heard many things in the memories, which finally made him learn where this sect was located.
And the name of the place surprised him.
"That can't be… how's this sect in the Rust Sky World?" Lin Mu did not expect that, as the Rust Sky World hadn't had sects for a long, long time. "No wait, considering how long ago the Withered Soul Daoist lived, it is likely that this was before the conflict of the sects," he reckoned.
This also confirmed the fact that the Withered Soul Daoist was a native of the Rust Sky World. This only made Lin Mu question more about her.
'But if she was already a native of this place, why did she go through all those hardships? Couldn't she have gained the ordainment of the world on her own too?' Lin Mu wondered.
Lin Mu continued to observe her memories and saw her struggles as well. It turned out that while the Withered Spirit Daoist was talented, there were still many others talented in the sect.
The sect she was raised in was called the White Bottle Sect. It was a sect that specialized in alchemical pills and medicines, from what Lin Mu could make out.
But despite that, the Withered Spirit Daoist was not talented in the signature skills of her sect. As such, she focused on other aspects that could allow her to gain an edge.
She grew better at martial skills and Qi skills, training in weapons more than anyone, hoping to carve out her own standing in the sect.
Her hard work certainly bore fruit, and she finally managed to become an immortal on her own. She was placed among the top 100 most talented disciples of the sect and made a core disciple.
'This is certainly the Rust Sky World in the past; otherwise, the standard of cultivation wouldn't have been this low,' Lin Mu thought to himself.
From what Lin Mu knew now, the First Tribulation Stage Immortal Realm cultivators were the mere bottom feeders in the hierarchy. But it seemed like back then, these cultivators were the cream of the crop.
He sifted through a few auxiliary memories and learned that the strongest cultivator in the sect was merely at the Sixth Tribulation Stage of the Immortal Realm and was the patriarch.
The elders were mostly at the Third to Fourth Tribulation Stage of the Immortal Realm.
Even reaching the First Tribulation Stage alone was enough to become a core disciple, and when one reached the Third Stage, they would be qualified to take on the position of an elder.
The Withered Spirit Daoist was not satisfied, of course, and continued to grow stronger. Eventually, she reached the Third Tribulation Stage of the Immortal Realm and became an elder—the youngest to do so by the age of two thousand.
But her achievement was short-lived, as mere days after she had done it, a younger disciple did the same, but at the age of twelve hundred!
It was a blow to the Withered Spirit Daoist's ego, and she sought out to spar with the disciple who had broken her record within mere days.
Lin Mu discovered that it was a man—one who would become her long-term rival.
