Jonn felt confused.
He was about to kill the brat in his hands to vent his hatred.
Yet, he suddenly heard a shout for him to stop from the man who doesn't care anything for his own children.
...Could it possibly be? That he has a chance to escape after all?
At this moment, Merab Zefer was feeling very conflicted.
On one side is a chance to deal a possibly fatal blow to a great enemy, while on the other side is the youngest of his last 3 remaining sons.
These are the last sons he would ever have in his entire lifetime.
The oldest one, Ross, he had already gotten into what is likely an unsolvable conflict with. That brat is still imprisoned under the mansion, most likely thinking of a way to stab his own father.
The younger one, Seth, is... although a bit psychotic, the one he has the greatest expectations of. Recently, they have been getting along slightly better.
The youngest one, Haides, he had yet to have any significant interactions with. This 3 year old brat had yet to reveal any obvious potential, making it unknown whether in the future, he'll be a worthless trash or a valuable talent.
Logically speaking, trading such a unknown for the defeat of a great enemy would be a more than profitable deal, but Merab Zefer was still hesitating.
Seeing the look of conflict, hesitation, and nervousness, on Merab Zefer's face, Jonn knew one thing.
He definitely cannot let go of this brat!
"I will leave, and you will get your son back. Do we have a deal?" Jonn said in a deep voice, as he slowly backed away. He could sense the soldiers that were surrounding him enclosing their circ.u.mference.
Merab Zefer's eyes narrowed. He himself was no good person, so he knew never to take a deal from a bandit.
He replied, "Leave the child here, and I'll let you go.".
Jonn shook his head. "What if you kill me right after I put him down? Let me reach the gate first, and I'll leave your son there."
Another vein popped on Merab Zefer's forehead.
Growling, he raised his saber and...
CRACK!
"Fine!" ...He stabbed it into the floor. A look of absolute frustration was on his face. His heart felt an intense sense of defeat. His pride had taken a blow. He had never been so humiliated.
Yet, at the same time that he had chosen the choice of saving his youngest son, he felt something loosening.
A look of surprise flashed in his eyes for a brief moment before he concealed it.
Jonn smiled. It looks like he had overestimated this Merab Zefer.
When he reaches the gate later, to take revenge for the beating he took just now, he will definitely slice this brat into two halves! At that moment, he will be running away while laughing his head off! And there will be nothing that Merab Zefer can do about it.
Just imagining the howl of anger and pain that is to come, caused Jonn to feel exhilarated.
Just then...
"Wah~!" A child's cry was heard.
Both Jonn's and Merab Zefer's eyes widened at the same time. They looked at Jonn's empty left hand, which was previously holding onto Haides. Then, they looked behind Merab Zefer, where one boy stood before another.
"Stop crying, little rascal. Here, have a lollipop."
"Wah~! Mommy! The bad man hurt mommy! Wah~!"
"Hurt? Uh... She's dead. But don't worry! If we st.i.tch her up, she'll at least look fine for the next few days before she starts rotting..."
"Wah~!"
Merab Zefer once thought that he treated women badly. It turns out that there's someone in the same house that treats them worse...
"When did he... How did he..." Jonn didn't know what the h.e.l.l was going on. At one moment, he had the little brat securely in his grip. The brat was his lifeline. There was no way he would let him go loose. But at the next moment, the brat had appeared all the way over there...
Unfortunately, Jonn didn't have much time to think about it, as he saw Merab Zefer turn his head over with a evil grin.
"F***! If I going to die, I'm taking you all with me!" Jonn knew that he had no chance of escaping. If he were caught and sent over for interrogation, after the interrogation, when he has no more information to offer, he will most likely be executed. Thus, it was at this moment that he decided to use his last resort...
The moment Jonn reached into his clothes, Merab Zefer sensed something terrible about to happen, and he leaped backwards.
At the same time, he shouted "Get down!"
Before long, under the eyes of the soldiers, a pair of black objects flew through the air...
"Black pineapples?"
"No, they're grenades!"
One pin dropped onto the floor. Then another. After that...
BOOM! BOOM!
Black dust and smoke spread in all directions as the room and everything within it was destroyed.
The unarmored soldiers at the front were killed, while the armored ones were thrown backwards.
Jonn, who had tossed the grenades himself, due to being too close to the blast radius of the grenades, had suffered fatal injuries. The armor that he wore was not a full-body armor. Thus, it was unable to protect him from the all-encompa.s.sing sc.r.a.pnel.
Merab Zefer, who had leaped away at the first sign of danger, had managed to escape practically unscathed.
He had grabbed both Seth and Haides, and ran away from Jonn as fast as he could. With the sprinting speed of a peak heroic bearings stage cultivator, he was able to run more than 25 meters in a few seconds. This was done even with a pair of kids under his arms. He had brought them crashing through a outer wall and out of the mansion from the second floor.
When they landed on the ground, the bodies of the 3 males all had scratches or splinters from the brutal way that they had used to escaped.
Seth sighed. "Sorry, little guy. Now, even her corpse has been ruined. I doubt we can fix it..." He was still saying something so insensitive.
The 3 year old Haides continued crying.
…
During the evening of the same day, a man dressed in azure clothes arrived at the Zefer family mansion. His body exuded an air of arrogance, and his face had on a look of irritation, most likely due to having been called out so late.
This man is the overseer that was a.s.signed to watch over Haradur city.
"This is indeed the remains of an explosive, and although badly ruined, that face does resemble one of the vice-chiefs of the Wolfing gang, Jonn Saucher..." The overseer said as he compared the ruined face of a corpse to the face on a wanted poster. "This proves that the Wolfing gang has been smuggling illegal goods. My school will begin searching for their whereabouts, and we'll get rid of them as soon as we find them!"
"...It's unfortunate that you were unable to capture him alive. Otherwise, we could immediately go subjugate them once we've extracted their location." He said in a voice that made it sound like it was a pity. "You don't need this corpse anymore, right?"
As there is a wanted poster, then there is obviously a bounty. As a late heroic bearings stage criminal, the bounty on Jonn Saucher's head is surely a plentiful amount. It was obvious why the overseer would want it.
Unexpectedly, the usually stingy Merab Zefer would unhesitatingly yield this. "Please, go ahead." He gestured.
He even added, "Sir Overseer, we have prepared a banquet just for tonight. Would you like to join us?"
"Oh why not." The look of irritation vanished, as the overseer smiled out of satisfaction.
This was simply the power of influence. So long as you have a strong backing, people would have to be careful not to displease you. Even a person as strong as Merab Zefer would have to at least act respectful.
…
"Unfortunately, that means they won't catch them any time soon. It simply means that the Wolfing gang has moved to a higher priority on their blacklist. We will still have to deal with the immediate threat of the Wolfing gang ourselves." After the overseer left, that was what Merab Zefer had said.
As one can easily expect, once the chief of the Wolfing gang, Ronold Wolf, receives news of one of his vice-chiefs dying at the Zefer family mansion, he would go absolutely mad. After all, one of the 9 late heroic bearing stage experts he had prepared to help him build an immortal city had been killed.
He had sent him out to recruit what could possibly be the last piece he needs for his goal, but instead lost one of his pieces. How could he not go mad? He will surely make an attack on Haradur city to kill off the Zefer family the next chance he gets.
Although the overseer would relay to his superiors, the possibility of the Wolfing gang attacking Haradur city, there is no way that they would station a force here to wait for a enemy that might or might not come. They would only send a subjugation force when they are sure that they can run into their enemy.
Thus, a meeting was in order.
The next day...
"Hi, I'm Seth. I'm sorry that your grandson was killed by me..." In front of an old man, the little boy bowed. His actions made it look like he had truly reflected. His words however...
...caused the old man face to distort in pure anger.
