「You check your status while eating?」

Sagsan tilted his head in confusion.

「Status open.」

Kirikchan and Kurtz-kun opened their status as usual.

「It's a dungeon rule. You should make sure that whatever you put into your mouth does not have poison in it. Don't you agree?」

Bryce-kun said in an attempt to deceive Sagsan, and sat down.

「Ah, I see. It's true that since we're eating a kraken, a monster we don't know anything about,  it's possible it could poison us, paralyze us, or make our HP drop rapidly. Viewing our status would let us discover any debuffs. Status open. 」

「Ah!」

I accidentally said.

「Eh? What's the matter?」

「N-no, it's just… We don't have any cups for alcohol, so… Do you mind drinking it out of a wooden cup?」

When we start eating, it'll be obvious that the food gives buff values on the status menu. Even if Sagsan said he'll keep any secrets we tell him, there are still things we shouldn't tell him, especially since we don't know much about it ourselves.

I see, he was trying to say that there wasn't any point trying to hide it now since Sagsan would figure it out. We should just get Rofas-san to do something about it after.

「Okay, let me talk about today's menu.」

First, I placed the plate of sushi at the center of the table.

「These are called sushi. These are made by Kirikchan. They're topped with thin spring onion slices. These ones are topped with smoked mountain bird meat, made by Kurtz-kun. And these ones are topped with octo- I mean, kraken.」

Sagsan stared at the food, his eyes wide-opened.

「You guys made these?」

Sagsan asked Kirikchan and Kurtz-kun.

「Mhm. He who does not work, neither shall he eat. If we don't help out, we don't get to eat.」

「Well, it feels more like we're asking for food by promising we'll help out.」

Kirikchan and Kurtz-kun explained. Sagsan looked a bit apologetic.

「I didn't help out at all. Is it still okay for me for me to eat?」

Oh.

If I said no here, he wouldn't be able to find out about the buff values.

*pat pat*

Rofas-san slapped Sagsan's back.

「Hahaha, don't worry about it! I was the one who caught the mountain birds. Also, Bryce was the one who smoked them. You were the one who brought the candy, so you helped out quite a lot!」

Ugugu.

Rofas-san had zero intentions of hiding the information. Okay, I get it, let's hurry and start eating then.

「Let's eat then! Itadakimasu!」

Rofas-san reached for a kraken sushi with his hand with no hesitation.

That's right. Because we didn't have chopsticks, and it would be difficult to use a spoon or fork to eat sushi with, we had to eat with our hands.

「Rofas-san, put a bit of soy sauce on it like this and eat it. Then…」

I was half-way through my explanation when Rofas-san put soy sauce on his piece and threw the entire thing into his mouth.

Does he like it?

「Mumumu.」

Everybody stared at Rofas-san.

「The rice today is different. It has a sweet and sour flavor. Delicious! Come on, everyone, eat, eat! Also, the kraken… It's the first time I've tried it, but the meat has a different type of chewiness than what I was expecting. This texture is quite addicting.」

「Nii-san, I understand that it's delicious, but what about the poison, or are you taking damage in any way…?」

Sagsan asked. Rofas-san shook his head with wide motions.

「Just as usual. Yuuri, what's this one?」

By just as usual, he must've been talking about the buff values.

「This is called tako-wasa. It's made of raw octo- I mean, kraken. The flavors of the kraken and the spiciness of the wasabi make it a must-have dish with alcohol.」

As I explained, Rofas-san put a large spoonful of tako-wasa into his mouth.

「Uu.」

He pinched his nose.

As expected.

You see, one small piece of octopus has enough flavor on its own… And since the wasabi was spread all over them, putting a big spoonful of them into your mouth would spread the stinging spiciness, right up your nose.

「Nii-san, are you okay?!」

But since Sagsan didn't know that, he started panicking.

No matter what he says, Sagsan really cares about his older brother. Wait, this isn't the time to think of heart-warming things.
