Chapter 219 Arrival Of A Legendary Guardian
After the great battle, of the million-strong dark army, the surviving one third fled in all directions to the gra.s.s plain, Blackleaf forest, and within Black Lava Dukedom.
The warriors, having fought for seven days and seven nights straight, did not have the energy to pursue them. They were so exhausted that they could sleep on the piles of corpses…
Many of the warriors had been hanging onto their last breath to endure through the battles.
Only when the danger was over, the warriors were able to relax…
They could finally rest.
In the final battle, it was a fortunate outcome that the Advanced devils were defeated. Otherwise, the allied forces would be destroyed.
When the dark creatures lost their devil commanders, they became like dispersed sand.
William and Lancelot stood at a far corner as they watched the Devil’s Dens collapsing. The booming sounds reverberated in the air.
The two of them had mixed feelings. The war would be considered over when all the Devil’s Dens would be destroyed.
The collapse of the Devil’s Dens happened due to the Temple Knights destroying the teleportation portals in the dens.
Lancelot knew that his early intervention would cause some trouble for himself. Hence, he wanted to command the Temple Knights to kill the dark creatures before the Temple of Light messenger arrived.
Previously, William had placed the magic transmission scroll in his s.p.a.ce ring…
Only G.o.d knew how many messages he would receive when he took out the magic scroll.
Perhaps, there might even be a video of someone scolding him.
“Are you leaving?” William looked at his old friend.
Lancelot sighed and said, “Yes. I’m leaving. The messenger is arriving very soon.
“Even though it’s the mission of the Temple Knights to destroy the dark creatures,
“I reneged on the will of the Temple of Light and preemptively intervened in the war. I even caused the death of 431 Temple Knights. Although the result of the war is positive… the leaders of the Temple of Light may not let the matter rest.
“Many of the senior Temple Knights will not support me anymore.”
There was no choice.
All the members of the Sword Sage Temple Knights were second-generation Temple Knights.
Many parents of the members were leaders of the Temple of Light. Lancelot would have to face the consequences of these casualties. Those senior Temple Knights would not let Lancelot off for killing their children.
Lancelot did not say much. He was here to show his grat.i.tude instead of grumbling.
Since he could lead the Sword Sage Temple Knights, he would have his ways and means to deal with the crisis.
Lancelot did not know what contract the powerful leaders of the large continent had with the Dark World. He was only a legion commander and not a core leader of the Temple of Light.
But he was sure the Temple of Light had a hand in it.
The reasoning was simple as the large-scale Darkness invasion could not go undetected by the Temple of Light. Everyone knew that there were Human traitors…
Since the Temple of Light knew about the invasion, and they wanted to delay the intervention for a month, it indicated an agreement had been reached between the temple and the Dark World.
William knew what Lancelot was thinking. He heartily laughed and said, “The decision of the leaders is beyond our control. In our dire situation, we have no choice but to call for help.”
In the next moment, a ray of white light appeared in the faraway sky as the air exploded behind a figure. The speed was very fast, but it was not his fastest speed.
The series of explosions filled everyone’s ears. There was immense pressure, and it made everybody breathless. They felt like collapsing to the ground.
But after all, they had fought the battle for seven days. They were not weaklings.
The pressure was not able to make them yield!
The white light did not stop. It descended from the sky and landed heavily in front of William and Lancelot.
Pom! It was as though a huge meteor rock had landed on the Earth’s surface.
Shockwaves could be felt emanating out of the ground as it was quaking.
The figure sighed, and the shockwaves vanished while the dust settled.
Lancelot immediately went down on one knee and solemnly said, “Paying my respect to Southern Temple Emissary.”
“Paying our respects to the Southern Temple Emissary.” The other Temple Knights went down on one knee and looked at the emissary with reverence.
The middle-aged emissary surveyed the battlefield and the warriors who were filled with anger. He felt it was awkward for him to exhibit his dominance.
William noticed the emissary and frowned. He did not expect such a powerful BOSS to appear, and he did not dare to be reckless. He happily said, “The City of Dawn, let’s pay our respect to the Southern Guardian.”
William’s voice was heard within a radius of a hundred miles. His happy tone did not sound fake at all.
All the warriors and races immediately stood up and lowered their heads before kneeling on the ground. They reverently looked at the man and shouted, “Paying our respect to the Southern Guardian.”
“Paying our respect to the Southern Guardian.”
“Paying our respect to the Southern Guardian.”
“All of you… please stand up!” The man who was clothed in black raised his brow. He mumbled to himself, “Southern Guardian?”
The emissary thought, “Who is this Elf? Why is he fawning on me?”
The southern region was a huge place. How could the emissary be a guardian of such a large area?
The emissary was actually the Southern Temple commander.
However, he decided to accept the complimentary t.i.tle.
Southern Guardian sounded nicer.
The emissary was very pleased.
The Legendary middle-aged man lightly coughed and said, “There is no need to destroy all the Devil’s Dens. Leave some for the soldiers to train. All the Temple Knights… are to disperse.
This Darkness invasion…
You have fought well. Very well indeed.”
“Roar!!”
“It’s marvelous!”
“I knew it… I knew that we would achieve victory. They wouldn’t allow us to go to our deaths.”
“Southern Guardian? I haven’t heard of this name before. But his dominant aura is rather powerful.”
“I thought he was a bad guy. So he is the good guy.”
The professionals who were on the gra.s.s plain lifted their heads and started their discussions.
The players were in a daze. Gosh, that was a Legendary BOSS.
It was a Legendary Temple Knight.
Lancelot noticed that the emissary was embarra.s.sed. When Lancelot was about to speak, William immediately walked up to the emissary and cried, “Southern Guardian, the most powerful and brave guardian of all.
“You.. have finally come to rescue us.
“The Darkness invasion only ended with your appearance. We had achieved victory. You’re the hero for defeating the Darkness invasion.”
The lips of the Southern Temple Emissary continued to quiver…
What the heck?
The emissary had not made his moves, and yet he had become the hero?
That was a responsibility that the emissary did not want to bear…
But William walked forward a few steps and knelt before the emissary. He hugged and shook the emissary’s thigh as he cried, “Lord Emissary, since the start of the Darkness invasion, the City of Dawn had sustained countless casualties. Many wounded soldiers continued fighting. Even when they were crippled, they still fought valiantly.
“It was very hard for all of us.
“Take a look. The warriors were so exhausted that they slept on the corpses.
“Take a look. The warrior did not even release the grasp of their weapons when they perished.
“Take a look… They are your believers. They are the citizens of your guardianship.”
“What the heck?
“Did I have so many believers?
“Why didn’t I know that?
“Moreover, I remember that there were only less than a few thousand believers in this G.o.d-forsaken southeastern region.” The Southern Temple Emissary thought about this situation.
He was perplexed. Where did this Elf come from?
Yeee!
He glanced at the City of Dawn and pondered. Then he gazed deeply at William Blackleaf and felt a heartache. Was the bloodline of the Blackleaf royal clan that shameless?
“No, the Blackleaf race is not shameless. It’s that shameless old man.” The middle-aged man recalled something, and his expression turned very grave.
But why?
He was about to have a good affinity with William.
And he could not help it…
[Prompt: Roland f.e.c.ker’s affinity for William has increased by 80 points.]
Roland became cordial. Moreover, he was being complimented in front of tens of thousands of people. He did not dare to do anything that would tarnish his image.
Hence, the emissary deeply inhaled. He extended his palm towards the sky before clenching his fist!
The sky changed color.
Shimmering light rained down from the sky!
All the surviving warriors felt an uplifting essence of life.
Their wounds recuperated at a rapid pace. Even the crippled professionals felt their wounds recovering in G.o.dspeed.
Everyone cheered for the ‘Southern Guardian’.
n.o.body noticed that the face of the Southern Guardian had turned ghastly black.
Who was this William?
He was the Elven prince that was highly popular.
He was the popular NPC with G.o.dly charms.
After observing the reaction of the emissary, William went down on one knee while he presented a small vial to the Southern Guardian.
Roland relaxed his palm and forcefully exhaled. Even though he had some affinity for William, he had suffered a great loss. Why did he make the trip himself?
But when Roland opened the vial and had a look.
He immediately closed it.
[Prompt: Roland f.e.c.ker’s affinity for William has increased by 270 points.]
(Prompt: Roland f.e.c.ker’s affinity for William has increased by 130 points.)
[Prompt: Roland f.e.c.ker’s affinity for William has increased by 480 points.]
“There are 300 drops of the Life Potion, and they are from the World Tree.” Even though Roland was a Legendary warrior, he was still in awe of the Life Potion.
There were other kinds of Life Potion besides the World Tree Life Potion.
But only the Life Potion of the World Tree was able to revive a dead person in the entire G.o.ds’ continent.
The Life Potion derived from other plants and items was of inferior quality, so the emissary would not be interested.
Roland started to take William seriously.
He was curious about how much resources the Blackleaf race had invested in William.
He was more interested to know how shameless William was as compared to his father.
The vial had 300 drops of Life Potion.
In just a moment, his anger at being manipulated vanished. He was here to mete out punishments, but he had forgotten about it. What about the contract of the Darkness invasion with the Dark World?
That was only a verbal agreement.
The emissary had obtained generous benefits.
So there was no need to mete out punishments.
The dark creatures only had to blame themselves for the failed invasion.
The blame was not to be placed on the 3,000 Temple Knights.
They were just pa.s.sers-by…
“Great, fantastic. This lad’s got a future. I’m in favor of William.” Roland kept the vial in his s.p.a.ce ring. He joyfully helped William up.
Lancelot was in disbelief, and his eyes almost popped out.
The other players and NPCs were gaping in astonishment!
d.a.m.n!
Legendary! They were both Legendary NPCs.
The Southern Guardian helped Prince William up!
Countless players were speechless. They could not figure out how powerful William’s charm was.
William Blackleaf wiped off his tears, and indignantly said, “Lord Emissary is kind enough to help us with the Darkness invasion. I will never forget your kindness. Please do not punish Lancelot, who had come in aid of us.
‘If you want to punish him…
“Please punish me first!”
Prince William knelt down on the ground.
Roland frowned. He did not say that he was meting out punishments.
A group of Temple Knights immediately shouted, “We came on our own accord. Please spare our commander Lancelot!”
The professionals of the City of Dawn shouted, “Please spare the Prince. If you want to mete out punishments, please punish us.”
Within a few seconds, many professionals narrated all the good deeds of William.
Roland was in deep thoughts.
He once again helped William up and grabbed his hand to prevent him from kneeling down again. Then Roland said in a soft voice, “Stop it. I’m willing to forgo the punishments.
“You did not break the rules in the war, so you have achieved victory.
“Lancelot had accomplished a great deed. It’s not a mistake!”
“No, no, it’s Lord Roland who led us to victory to wipe out the dark creatures.” William shook his head as he did not want to bear the responsibility.
Roland was speechless. He did not want to argue with William. Roland was already bearing a lot of responsibilities, so he did not mind taking over the responsibility of Lancelot’s actions.
But he did not want to stay any longer. Even though he was willing to bear the responsibilities, he had no intention to have more.
He surveyed the surroundings.
Tsk, tsk.
The southeastern region was actually very interesting. There were Humans, Elves, Seraphkin, Half-Elves, Orcs, and other magical beasts. It was incredible.
However…
Human leaders had also thought about it.
If an influential professional was able to unite the different races, it was possible to defeat the Darkness invasion.
To be precise, if the different forces were to collaborate and fight against the dark creatures, they would have a 50% chance of achieving victory.
However, the chance was small, so the Human leaders did not consider it an option. Hence, they only decided to intervene one month after the invasion. It would give all the races enough time to deal with the invasion seriously…
Hence, even though the southeastern region had defeated the dark creatures with the help of the Temple Knights, the rules were not broken.
It was a sudden victory and a pleasant surprise.
Hence the victorious should be rewarded.
The victorious should be glorified.
The war was well fought!
