Chapter 6 - IP Chapter 6
Incurable Pain | Chapter 6
Bai Xunyin had never expected that Yu Luoyin would help her.
She nervously bit her lip, feeling an urgency to express her grat.i.tude. However, her phone was still in the cla.s.sroom, so she could only manage to mouth the words “thank you.”
The task seemed easy for the boys. Yu Luoyin carried the chair effortlessly with one hand while he looked at her and asked, “Do you really want to thank me?”
Bai Xunyin quickly nodded vigorously.
“Well then, hold the umbrella properly and don’t block my view,” Yu Luoyin scoffed.
“You’re obstructing my line of sight.”
This girl didn’t seem to understand the difference between holding an umbrella for him and holding one together. Half of her body was exposed to the rain.
Why did he, a grown man, need to be protected so thoroughly?
A deep red tint spread across Bai Xunyin’s slender neck. She smiled, pursing her lips, but her hand didn’t move.
She remained stubbornly positioned to keep the umbrella over Yu Luoyin’s head.
Yu Luoyin couldn’t do anything about her determination and increased his pace, walking into the third-years’ cla.s.sroom building.
Helping Bai Xunyin carry the stool into the cla.s.sroom caused quite a stir. Many students from Cla.s.s 3 who were resting after finishing their own tasks were surprised to see Yu Luoyin appear in their cla.s.sroom.
Not to mention the fact that he was helping Bai Xunyin move things.
Subconsciously, many cla.s.smates glanced at Sheng Churan, who was already seated by the window elegantly touching up her makeup. Her expression was remarkably unpleasant, and even layers of powder couldn’t conceal it.
“You stay here,” Yu Luoyin said to Bai Xunyin without even glancing at the people around. Then, he turned and walked away.
The girl watched in a daze as the tall figure of the boy departed.
Yu Luoyin had just taken her umbrella too, clearly not wanting her to go outside again. So, he must be… going to help her move the desk?
Bai Xunyin watched as he walked away, standing still. Water droplets from her wet ponytail fell and trickled into the collar of her clothes at the nape of her slender neck, sending a shiver down her spine.
“Bai Xunyin.”
Sheng Churan held back and restrained herself, but eventually couldn’t resist approaching to ask, “How come Yu Luoyin helped you move things?”
Her question echoed the curiosity of others, and many pairs of eyes turned towards Bai Xunyin for a moment.
However, among them, Sheng Churan’s gaze was particularly piercing, staring intently at her, pressing her with an overwhelming intensity.
Bai Xunyin’s eyebrows slightly furrowed. She wanted to tell Sheng Churan that she didn’t know either. But if she said that, Sheng Churan probably wouldn’t believe her.
“Say something!”
Sheng Churan couldn’t hold back her impatience, her tone becoming more forceful. She frowned and pushed Bai Xunyin, “How do you know Yu Luoyin?!”
Almost all the girls in their year knew she had a crush on Yu Luoyin. Normally, no girl dared to approach him.
So why would he help Bai Xunyin, someone who was usually silent, move her things?!
A strong sense of unease washed over her heart. Unknown whether it was caused by the rain or her sweat, Sheng Churan’s palms became slightly damp.
Shoved against the wall by her, Bai Xunyin’s delicate body leaned softly against it. Her brows furrowed slightly, and a hint of disgust flickered in her eyes.
She lifted her long eyelashes slightly and looked at Sheng Churan. There was no trace of emotion in her gaze, just a faint, calm look.
However, this gaze sent an inexplicable chill down Sheng Churan’s spine.
…
“Oh, I forgot, you can’t speak at all,” after a moment, Sheng Churan found an opportunity to mock and laughed as if nothing was happening.
She looked at Bai Xunyin with a contemptuous gaze and lowered her voice, “A mute person like you, dare to contend with me?”
At Sheng Churan’s words, Bai Xunyin squinted at her, catching a glimpse of a trace of unease in her eyes.
Thinking she was hiding it well…
But in reality, the unease was as clear as day.
Sheng Churan…what was she afraid of?
Moreover, Bai Xunyin hadn’t even thought about ‘contending’ with her.
This kind of meaningless conversation left her in a sense of disinterest.
Bai Xunyin lowered her gaze, avoiding Sheng Churan, and went back to her seat.
She sat on the chair… the one that Yu Luoyin had just helped her move.
Why did he help her in the first place?
“Yu Luoyin is kind-hearted. Of course, he would help when he sees a girl carrying things herself,” Sheng Churan swept her gaze around the cla.s.sroom, addressing no one in particular, speaking aloud as if in self-talk.
“Everyone, don’t misunderstand anything. Don’t let your imaginations run wild.”
This was her way of ‘a.s.serting her dominance,’ but who in the cla.s.sroom didn’t know that Sheng Churan didn’t stand a chance with him anyway?
Who was she a.s.serting her dominance over?
It was rather comical.
Yet, there would always be a group of people who adored students like Sheng Churan and fawned over her, while another group watched Bai Xunyin, who was quiet and composed, with keen interest.
Taking off her coat and wringing out the water, the girl’s expression remained cold and indifferent. It was as if everything Sheng Churan said had nothing to do with her.
Bai Xunyin paid no attention to this clownish performance, even though the clown was right in front of her, performing and posing.
In a way, she was quite detached.
Before long, amid the ‘eager antic.i.p.ation’ of the cla.s.s, Yu Luoyin helped Bai Xunyin bring the desk in.
Sheng Churan was still standing next to Bai Xunyin and hadn’t left. Her eyes lit up as soon as she saw him, and she quickly moved closer to strike up a conversation.
“Yu Luoyin, you’re wet. I have a hairdryer, you can use it to dry your clothes.”
Among all the students, only Sheng Churan brought a hairdryer to school, along with a complete set of makeup.
Yu Luoyin, Bai Xunyin, and Sheng Churan happened to be positioned in a rather eerie triangular formation, creating an odd yet captivating arrangement.
People naturally love gossip- it’s in their nature.
However, the ‘male lead’ didn’t give the onlookers much room for imagination.
Yu Luoyin didn’t pay attention to Sheng Churan, nor did he acknowledge Bai Xunyin. It was as if he was simply ‘helping out’ casually.
He moved the desk to Bai Xunyin, his wet black hair hanging down. He then casually brushed a handful of it, then briskly walked away.
Several droplets of water from his hair fell onto the desk in front of Bai Xunyin as he moved.
As she looked down at them, her ears caught the sound of Sheng Churan exhaling in relief.
Clearly, this was the first time she found joy in Yu Luoyin’s indifference.
Sheng Churan even let out a pleased hum and swayed back to her seat.
…
After a few moments of silence, Bai Xunyin let her hair down to air dry. She took out another school uniform from her desk drawer to change into.
As her clothes spread out, a piece of paper floated down to the ground.
Bai Xunyin faintly remembered that there wasn’t this note on her desk before.
She blinked slightly, quickly bending down to pick up the paper which mysteriously appeared on the floor.
Written in bold black ink, the lines flowed freely on the paper. It was clearly written by a male, whose handwriting was intricate and forceful, nearly breaking through the paper with its intensity.
[Remember to repay me.]
Yu Luoyin didn’t do things without a motive; he was asking for something in ‘return.’
Bai Xunyin gazed at the note for a while, her mind feeling muddled and confused. Then, she gently folded the paper.
“Summer vacation starts tomorrow.”
After cla.s.smates had gradually finished moving their desks, Shen Langli took the opportunity to speak, sharing his usual advice, “Pay attention to your studies, consider extra cla.s.ses, don’t just go out and play during the break.”
“You’ll be in the final year of high school next semester. After enduring this year, you’ll have plenty of time for fun…”
Bai Xunyin listened absentmindedly. Her knee vibrated-
It was a message from Ah Mo.
[Yinyin, have you finished moving the desk? It’s raining again in Linlan.]
Bai Xunyin subconsciously looked out of the window. The rain that had been lingering had subsided, leaving only a light drizzle.
As if intentionally challenging the students, as soon as the desks were moved, the rain stopped. They could even faintly see a rainbow on the horizon. Bai Xunyin suddenly felt a sense of clarity.
She lowered her head to reply to Ah Mo’s message:
[Ah Mo, I’ve met someone very special.]
…
“Brother Yu, here’s a towel.”
When Yu Luoyin returned to the cla.s.sroom, a towel was thrown at him.
He caught it, wiping his hair. He then heard Li Yuan’s lively voice from the side, “Yu ge, you really helped that little mute girl move her desk?”
“Why not?”
His question was truly boring, making Yu Luoyin chuckle. His black pupils under his messy hair looked at Li Yuan, “Did I go out to play in the rain?”
“But really, Brother Yu, you’re really creative in pursuing someone.”
Lu Ye couldn’t help but tease, thinking of the scenes they had ‘observed’ earlier.
“Why didn’t you help her move the desk earlier? Did you have to wait until she got soaked in the rain?”
They had finished moving their things long ago and had initially planned to help others.
Following the bet about ‘pursuing Bai Xunyin,’ the other three eagerly pushed Yu Luoyin out of Cla.s.s 3. He didn’t refuse and casually went along.
However, when he got there, he stood in the shadows, calmly watching Bai Xunyin standing there alone.
The young girl had no one to help her, surrounded by desks and chairs. Her appearance seemed incredibly lonely.
As for this person who boasted about ‘pursuing someone,’ he stood watching the girl struggle on her own, only stepping in after she moved things herself and rushed into the rain.
Calm and composed, it made Lu Ye have the urge to kick Yu Luoyin.
Bai Xunyin appeared delicate and frail, not someone who could move desks and chairs. If Yu Luoyin didn’t move soon, Lu Ye was almost tempted to step in and help.
“Chasing people the way you do won’t get you anywhere,” Yu Luoyin listened to Lu Ye’s complaint and shrugged with indifference.
What did Lu Ye understand?
He wants to go ahead and help directly. How could that be as ‘romantic’ as two people standing in the rain together?
When Bai Xunyin had held the umbrella for him in the rain just now, her ears had turned red.
It was particularly noticeable against her fair and translucent skin.
“You’re willing to help move desks in the rain…”
Zhou Xinrui pushed his gla.s.ses and turned back, looking at Yu Luoyin thoughtfully. “Brother Yu, are you doing this for the bet, or do you actually have some feelings for her?”
Li Yuan and Lu Ye looked surprised when they heard this, their emotions evident in their eyes.
How could Yu Luoyin possibly like that little mute girl?
Yu Luoyin’s hand, while drying his hair, continued to laugh softly under the towel. He countered, “What do you think?”
Zhou Xinrui fell silent for a moment and honestly said, “In fact, the little mute girl is so pretty, it’s normal to develop feelings.”
“Indeed,” Yu Luoyin tossed the towel onto the desk. Under his partially dried, fluffy short hair, his youthful face was clear, refined, and slightly proud.
However, a mischievous edge colored his gaze as he continued, “But I’m doing it for the bet.”
