As she looked at Kang Jun's messages, he sent her another one.
King Kang: [I forgot to say, good luck. Also, tell me when you want me to pick you up.]
Lu AnLing: [Aren't you busy? There's no need to pick me up.]
Lu AnLing looked at the time, Kang Jun should already be at work and he had told her that he had another bunch of meetings to attend to, so Lu AnLing didn't want to be a bother.
King Kang: [I'll never be too busy for you. You're my number one priority.]
Reading this, Lu AnLing smiled bashfully at her phone as her heart rate began to increase. Kang Jun was getting better and better at slipping in those cheesy lines that Lu AnLing loved so much.
Suddenly, she felt someone slap her on the back. She winced at the burning sensation.
Turning around, she saw Sheng wearing a blue suit and a goofy smile.
"Ready!" He said childishly.
Lu AnLing reached to touch her burning back.
"For f.u.c.k sakes..." she cursed as she rubbed it and stared at Sheng dead in the eyes.
The man gave her an innocent expression. He completely didn't understand why she had sworn and this annoyed Lu AnLing even more.
Lu AnLing: "You know I'm a girl right? You should be more gentle with me."
Hearing this Sheng couldn't help but furrow his eyebrows. Though he also wore a smile so his expression just looked strange.
Seeing this, Lu AnLing couldn't help but hold back her laughter. She wanted to be angry at him but she could tell that he was just too excited and didn't mean to hurt her on purpose.
"You're not going to say sorry?" Lu AnLing teased.
Sheng: "Yes... I totally forgot that word. Sorry."
Lu AnLing burst out in laughter. "Your mom must be ashamed that she raised such a mannerless child."
Hearing this Sheng frowned and was about to hit Lu AnLing's back once again but instead, he smirked and said, "It's not my fault I'm surrounded bad examples. They really have an effect on such a sweet and innocent child like myself."
This time Lu AnLing frowned. "I'm not mannerless."
Sheng: "I never said you were! Everyone else is. As for you... you're more of a potty mouth. You better fix that or else you'll be seen as unrefined."
Lu AnLing opened her mouth as if to say something but she couldn't refute what Sheng had said so she just huffed and then she walked quicker down the hall.
The two walked together until Lu AnLing found her room. There, Sheng and Lu AnLing parted ways, but before he left, Sheng said,
"We should celebrate tonight. I know you don't like drinking but sometimes you need to let loose!"
Lu AnLing laughed at him. "Sorry, but I have plans."
To this, Sheng began to pout. "You have a date, don't you?"
Lu AnLing blushed but she didn't say a word. Seeing her crimson red face Sheng almost exploded.
Sheng: "Whatever happened to bro's before hoes?"
"Considering that I'm a girl I don't think that applies to me." Lu AnLing answered with a shrug.
"Fine. Chicks before d.i.c.ks then?" Sheng answered with his hands on his hips. He pushed out his chest showing a bit of dominance but quickly he gave up. Doing such things wasn't Sheng's thing.
Hearing him come up with reasons for why she should hang out with him instead of Kang Jun made Lu AnLing internally laugh but there was no way she was backing down. She loved spending time with Sheng, don't get her wrong, but at the same time, she felt like she had already spent a lot of time with Sheng abroad and not enough time with Kang Jun, in the now.
If only she had met him earlier she wouldn't have spent many years so sad and bitter. If only she had met and fallen in love with him earlier.
That was impossible and she knew it but in the end, these thoughts only strengthened her want to be with Kang Jun.
She was so glad she had met him.
Watching Lu AnLings face fill with tenderness, Sheng could already feel that he had lost so he muttered,
"Fine. Ditch me. Spend time with your stupid boyfriend." Sheng teased. He wasn't really mad, he was just being childish. "You know, if you stick to your boyfriend so much he might break up with you—"
As Sheng got close to finishing his sentence, Lu AnLing landed a hard punch on Sheng's arm, sending him staggering a few steps back.
The girl's face was completely frigid as she gave Sheng the deadliest of glares.
"Jinx me like that again and I'll kick your a.s.s." Lu AnLing warned.
Sheng rubbed his arm and then he winced in pain. Looking at Lu AnLing's serious expression he realized he had taken his playing too far so he immediately surrendered.
"I'm sorry, I was joking okay?" But those words didn't stop Lu AnLing's face from filling with unhappiness and anger. Sheng needed to do better, "Hey, how about this? I wish you all the happiness in the world. You will succeed and prosper and anything you want will come true. "
Sheng walked up to Lu AnLing. He faced her and he put his hand on her shoulders.
"I'm really sorry." He muttered. He couldn't believe he had just ruined her mood. An empty feeling began to rise within his stomach and, out of nowhere, Sheng felt sick.
But with a few words, Lu AnLing made that disappear, "It's okay."
Looking her in the eyes Sheng asked, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, yes. I am. Just think before you speak next time." Lu AnLing's eyes were clear and devoid of the unhappiness Sheng had seen in them before.
Truly, now there was a completely different feeling within them but Sheng didn't know what it was.
Lu AnLing: "Now go find your room."
With those words she dismissed him and Sheng went straight down the hall.
Lu AnLing didn't watch him leave instead she went inside the room.
Once she opened the door she saw that it was empty but there was a name card on the table which told her where to sit. She did so.
Sitting in the quiet room by herself, Lu AnLing couldn't help but begin to think.
Sheng's words had given Lu AnLing a reality check. People could change and anything could happen tomorrow... Kang Jun could decide one day that he didn't love her anymore and despite the things he had said to her today he could always end up divorcing her.
But at the same time, the opposite could happen. Kang Jun and she could love and be loved until the day they were old and grey.
Anything could happen and because of this, why did she have to be sad and worry about it?
She just needed to do her best. That was all that mattered. And her reward was the happiness she was given by Kang Jun and Kang Mingyu.
