She couldn't call Mr. Long to pick her up in the state she was in. If she did, she was sure that Kang Jun would rush to her side and despite the fact that it would make her feel better, she didn't want to pull the man out of work. Mostly when she knew how busy he was.
She needed to be a woman suitable of Kang Jun so she believed she needed to solve this problem on her own but at the same time she knew this wasn't something Kang Jun would have wanted. So Lu AnLing was conflicted.
At the moment, her mind wavered but she quickly put it back on track. So she could completely concentrate on what her grandmother had said.
Lu AnLing couldn't understand why the old woman was being such a horrible person. She would have understood if her grandmother was worried about her. She would have even understood if the old woman was worried about the trouble marrying Kang Jun would bring to Lu AnLing, but that was not the case.
By her grandmothers words, Lu AnLing could see that her grandmother was deciding her opinions based off of her own personal emotions.
This pained and angered Lu AnLing. But what angered her the most was that the old woman wasn't giving Kang Jun a chance.
"Um... are you okay?" Lu AnLing heard a voice say. At first she ignored it, believing that it wasn't being directed at her, but then, the voice spoke again.
"Uh, auntie?"
Recognizing the voice, Lu AnLing turned around quickly. There she saw a sweet little girl she recognized as Kang Mei Xue.
Lu AnLing quickly wiped the residue tears off her face.
"Hi..." Lu AnLing said softly. Her voice betrayed the calm she was trying to portray.
Hearing the slight sadness, Kang Mei Xue walked over to Lu AnLing, c.o.c.ked her head and repeated, "Are you okay auntie?"
Lu AnLing bent down to Kang Mei Xue. "You're not here alone are you?"
"No. I'm with my mom."
Lu AnLing looked around but she didn't see anyone who looked like Qiao Lan around.
Seeing this, Kang Mei Xue said. "She's in that room," Kang Mei Xue pointed. Lu AnLing followed the gesture. "Grandmother and mother are talking about adult stuff so she told me to leave the room."
Lu AnLing frowned.
'That's irresponsible...'
By what Lu AnLing had learned from Kang Jun, Kang Mei Xue acted like an adult due to how Qiao Lan treated her but Lu AnLing was never able to picture it but right now this proved it to Lu AnLing first hand. She now understood even more that this was because Qiao Lan insisted on making the girl do many things on her own.
The girl was only 7! To Lu AnLing this was like robbing the girl of her times as a child.
Lu AnLing felt a new anger burn within her. This one merged with the one ignited by her grandmother.
Lu AnLing: "If you want, I can wait with you until your mother comes to get you?"
Kang Mei Xue shook her head vehemently. "I don't want to bother you. I'll be fine on my own."
To this, Lu AnLing smiled sadly and then she poked the girls nose. "It's no bother. How about this, I haven't been feeling well so let's have a little chat? How about it? You'll be doing me a favour."
Kang Mei Xue's eyes brightened. "Okay!"
The two began to speak about various topics and, like it was natural, they began to talk about Kang Jun.
"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone that you know Uncle Jun."
Lu AnLing smiled and then she patted Kang Mei Xue on the head.
Seeing the unfamiliar movement, Kang Mei Xue flinched but then when she felt the warmth on her head the girl blushed slightly.
Meanwhile, Qiao Lan exited the room and ended up seeing the intimate scene between the two. At first, she frowned but then she put on her kindest smile and ran over to them,
"Mei Xue, don't disappear like that!" Qiao Lan said loudly.
The woman's voice made both Lu AnLing and Kang Mei Xue jump. Turning to the woman both of them froze uncomfortably.
"I'm sorry..." Kang Mei Xue said before she made her way to Qiao Lan's side obediently.
The little girls face became frigid.
Seeing this, Lu AnLing's heart ached.
Qiao Lan walked over to Lu AnLing and smiled. "Hi, you're Liang's friend right?"
'Not really' Lu AnLing muttered internally, but instead she said, "we're acquainted. "
"Oh I see..." Qiao Lan said and then she put her hands on her waist and said, "Are you busy? let's have a little chat."
Lu AnLing was going to reject her but when she looked at Kang Mei Xue she decided that it was best to get to know her enemy before going to war.
***
Qiao Lan and Lu AnLing sat opposite of one another. What they were suppose to have was a simple chat but as they stared into each other's eyes, to Lu AnLing, it felt more like psychological warfare.
Qiao Lan: "So you're Liang's girlfriend, aren't you?"
Qiao Lan was a.s.serting her dominance over Lu AnLing. Thinking that she was Kang Liang's girl only meant that Lu AnLing was lower than her in status and even if she did marry Kang Liang, Lu AnLing would continue to be bellow her.
Looking at Qiao Alan's smile, Lu AnLing couldn't help but wonder what would happen if the woman knew that she was Kang Jun's wife, instead.
"Kang Liang And I are barely friends."
Qiao Lan crossed her arms. "That didn't seem that way at the Starlight Event. Don't be shy, it's okay to admit that you like him too. My brother in law is pretty good looking. It's just unfortunate that he doesn't want anything to do with the family..."
Qiao Lan's gaze sharpened. "Or does he?"
"I'm not sure. I don't know anything about his family." This was true. So no matter what Lu AnLing actions wouldn't suggest otherwise.
Qiao Lan watching Lu AnLing like a hawk. Seeing how Lu AnLing kept her air of indifference, Qiao Lan believed her but she didn't back down.
Lu AnLing: "Either way, whatever choice he makes in the future is his own choice. Even if I did like him, I wouldn't interfere in that kind of stuff."
Qiao Lan smiled. "You have such a great att.i.tude."
Lu AnLing wanted to frown but she smiled instead.
"Thank you."
Under normal circ.u.mstances, Lu AnLing would shoot a comment back but she didn't see any of Qiao Lan's redeeming qualities.
Nibbling at her food, Qiao Lan smiled slightly.
From a faraway corner, Chong Feng watched the two as they ate quietly with a face full of confusion and worry, though he didn't go over to them.
He knew of the chaotic state of the Kang family and this sight just made him wonder what exactly was happening within the Kang family.
Turning away, he dialled Kang Jun's number.
After his chat with Doctor Su and now this... He needed to have a talk with Kang Jun.
