"He was a hardworking man, a kind man and an intelligent one, he did a lot of great things and accomplished a lot under his lifetime. He will be a great loss for his family, the community and our corporation."

The Manager stepped away from the microphone located on the stage. On the stage, a large coffin was placed in the middle, with a picture of a smiling man surrounded by different types of flowers.

The crowd in front of the stage sat on several rows of benches. A large number of the crowd was crying, and those who didn't, had deep looks of sorrow weighing them down.

The burial of a great man was displayed in front of that crowd, and in the middle of it all, Kori sat on the bench closest to the podium.

But he did not cry, he held back the tears with all of his might.

He wanted to show his dad that he was strong and courageous, that he was able to survive through this without shedding any tears. Although, the task was hard because he could feel the tears sting in his throat, begging him to let them fly out.

Yumino was the complete opposite, she quietly sniffled and wept beside him throughout the ceremony.

Kori and Yumino were invited to view the casket where Hyoru Hanesawa laid.

Yumino went first and whispered something quietly after praying with her hands.

Kori then walked up to the casket slowly and looked at his dad's face for what would be the last time. He leaned in slightly and whispered

"Looks like I never got to tell you. But don't worry, I'll ignore the bullies. I remember what you taught me about peace and kindness. I shall prevail."

Kori smiled as to make his last encounter with his dad an optimistic one. But the smile was hard to keep, he had thought about everything a lot the days that led up to this one and had come to terms with it in a limited sense. But the sight just wouldn't leave his head, it kept popping up, even within his dreams.

Kori went back to his seat after he hugged his mom.

The ceremony proceeded.

,,,

2 days had pa.s.sed since Kori had to experience the death of his own father. The 2 days had pa.s.sed extremely slow and filled with torment, sadness, and grief.

The family had lost a lot more than just their loved one.

Without their main source of income, they couldn't afford to stay at their house and were forced to move. The move hadn't been made yet, but it was scheduled to happen the next month.

To fill the void of income, Yumino was forced to find jobs.

But, the days continued on as usual for Kori, who held his promise and did his best to ignore the ones pestering him.

But his days of relative calm would soon end permanently one day after school.

,,,

"That's it for today's cla.s.ses, now go home and finish your homework. Oh, and please do memorize the formula written on the board. It will be important for the test."

The teacher used his stick to point, with exaggerated moves, at the formula written in the corner of the board. The majority of the cla.s.s didn't pay attention to the teacher, instead, they were getting excited about school ending. They started talking to each other about the things that they were going to do when they got home. Kori wrote down the formula on the top of his page and circled it twice. He closed the book and walked out of the cla.s.sroom like the others also did. He then walked to his locker s.p.a.ce by the blackboard, where he took out his clothes and shoes. When he was putting them on, a group of boys approached him from his right side. The boy in the middle had a dirty school uniform on him and a haircut that pointed upwards. He quickly looked around the room and saw Kori bending over to grab his stuff.

"Oh, what do you know? If it isn't Kori."

Kori ignored them and continued with his operation. The air grew stale amongst the few onlookers that watched as they slowly made their way out of there. Quietly, they made themselves neutral in the situation and walked out. The boy continued talking

"I heard your dad died. I hope that he died in a proper and brave way, and not as a result of stupidity. But since you're his son, I would doubt it."

Kori froze a second but soon resumed his activities without trouble.

Kori did get upset by Takashi's words but decided to not do anything, not even react. He thought about what his dad would've wanted, and came to the conclusion that this was the most efficient way. Takashi started to get a bit annoyed and walked a bit closer to Kori, he then said

"Didn't you hear what I said, Idiot? Or perhaps your brain is just as rotten as your dad's and you can't understand me."

Kori grew frustrated and his movements slowed down, but still, he kept quiet. He cursed his own emotions for getting ahead of him, ever since he was young he had been plagued by sudden bursts of anger painting everything he saw red of frustration. But this time he was extra determined to keep his own promise of peace and kindness as he was taught by the pa.s.sing of his dad.

Takashi stared at Kori in complete disbelief, not once before had Kori just ignored him. The disbelief turned into anger as he drew a parallel in his mind to his own parents, who ignored him a lot of the time due to being busy. What was the point of teasing Kori if he stopped reacting? That was the entire reason he and his friends were doing it. In fact, that was the entire reason Takashi was being an annoyance to everyone around him, to gather reactions and get the attention he had missed out on when he was younger.

Takashi, out of frustration, grabbed Kori's shirt and stared at his face. His face was a new sight for Kori, contorted in anger and angst. But that wasn't the most notable part, it was the sense of sadness that could be felt looming in his eyes.

One of the boys behind him, after witnessing the frustration growing in Takashi, sighed out of boredom and said

"Let's just go, Takashi, he's no fun."

Unlike Takashi, the other boys in his gang weren't there just because they wanted attention. Although that was part of it, they were mostly there for the excitement and thrill of witnessing Takashi's actions against others. All they cared about was if the thing they were doing was exciting and fun, a consequence of childhood naivete.

Takashi, who respected his friends, sighed deeply for several seconds in an attempt to avert his anger. He then slowly let go of Kori's shirt, while maintaining eye contact.

He turned around and walked towards the exit, the students who for different reasons were left in the cla.s.sroom sighed out in relief. They also then decided to exit the cla.s.sroom.

Kori smiled to himself in excitement, he had succeeded with his tactic. Ecstatic with himself, he continued to get his stuff out of his locker.

Before leaving, Takashi turned around and decided to vent out a little bit of his anger by saying one last thing

"I'll let you go for now, so you can go home and kiss that ugly mother of yours. Guess she'll have a bit of a problem with getting someone new, considering the only one willing to marry her died."

Takashi smiled in satisfaction and turned around

*FLIP*

Like a simple flip of a light switch, a burst of anger instantly took over Kori.

He didn't know why, or how it did, but in an instant, his entire mental state changed. He lost control over everything, the promise he made suddenly felt like it meant nothing. Even though he could consciously point out that the action he was thinking of in his head wasn't the best thing to do, emotions wouldn't listen to him.

Soon, he could barely think straight, his mind spinning. Kori could only react to what he was feeling, the blazing fire within him that had evolved from a calm lit candle swinging from side to side to a building fire risking several lives.

He looked up as the smug-looking Takashi calmly exited the room along with his other companions.

Seconds later, he was struck

*SMASH*

"OUCH!"

The drop kick had been executed perfectly, landing in the dead middle of Takashi's lower back. Takashi kneeled down from the impact and Kori fell to the floor. Takashi turned around in a rush as his quelled anger came back in full force. The other boys quickly turned around in surprise, with shocked faces. Shocked faces that soon turned into scarily innocent smiles.

They had found the excitement they were searching for, so they started walking towards the lying Kori.

Takashi stood up and screamed

"You b.a.s.t.a.r.d! You trying to pick a fight!?"

He was not only angry but also deeply shocked. Of all the times they had teased him, Kori had not even once put up a single display of violence. But now all of a sudden, he went against him with full force.

Kori stood up menacingly and looked at the approaching foes with spiteful eyes burning with anger.

He had lost all control of his actions at that point, he wasn't able to do anything himself. The emotions had taken over. Suddenly, he said morbidly

"Insult me all you f.u.c.king want. But you don't f.u.c.king DARE to insult my mother. Then you'll really pay"

The furious stare straight at Takashi prevailed as those words even made him tremble a bit. Logically, Takashi and his gang were on the winning side. They had the numerical advantage, and all of them were stronger than the kind of thin Kori Hanesawa. But something about his tone, att.i.tude and eyes gave Takashi the complete opposite feeling. The feeling that they somehow would lose against this weak 6th grader.

Why would he go against them when he already knew that they were stronger than him? Takashi had no clue why as he tried to read his opponent's motives. Was this a result of bottled up anger from all of the teasing, or did he have some kind of secret weapon?

But Takashi was also quite angry, so he didn't feel like thinking too much about it. He just ran towards Kori like his friends.

Kori managed to avert the first attack from the guy approaching from Kori's left by ducking down. He then managed to get in a hit on the same guy's stomach. The punch itself was kind of weak, but it surprised the guy so much so that he suddenly froze. Kori took advantage of it and kicked the guy's left calf. The second guy, approaching from the middle, suddenly arrived and managed to hit Kori on his right shoulder blade as he was turned away from him. Kori was forced to take a couple of steps forward due to the impact of the hit. Suddenly, the third and final guy, Takashi, arrived and managed to perform a roundhouse kick by twisting his body with the kick to gain more momentum. The kick connected with Kori's upper right arm, forcing him further back. He was now closer to the lockers again, thanks to the kick coming from the right side.

Kori grabbed his right shoulder in pain, he had sustained two powerful hits to it. Takashi ran up again and lifted his left leg in preparation. Kori ducked as soon as he saw the foot move towards him again, expecting it to be another roundhouse kick. But when it was above his right shoulder, he noticed that the shadow it created suddenly stopped. Kori quickly looked up and noticed what was happening, but it was too late to dodge.

Takashi suddenly brought down his right leg violently with an axe kick, striking the right shoulder again. As he screamed in pain, Kori held his shoulder tightly. The pain of thousands of needles biting into his shoulder emerged.

Kori learned that day that emotions alone do not win a battle.

But, as he was in his emotional climax of anger, something sudden happened.

Yellow light suddenly sprung from Kori's uniform and blinded everyone present, even Kori himself.

"L-LIGHT!?" Takashi yelled

After a short while, the yellow light slowly transitioned into a thick pink smoke that laid over the people in that room.

"S-smoke?" Kori quietly questioned as he looked around in confusion.

Then, he suddenly noticed the 4 b.u.t.tons on each corner of his vision.

"What the h.e.l.l is this!?"
