Chapter 6: Leak
The weather was damp once again on that day.
It might be an inevitable consequence of the season, but nevertheless, the rain kept falling on that day.
“It’s already the fifth day.”
Kyouya mumbled without spirit.
Just to make things clear, this mumbling just now was mostly directed at Mao.
“Any time now.”
Mao gave a peculiar reply.
“Sorry? What was that?”
Kyouya retorted to her evasive reply.
“Yes, any time now.”
Shion replied in the same fashion.
“This place is pretty run down, huh?”
“Home is where you make it they say.”
Their conversation was going completely over Kyouya’s head. It was as if they were repeatedly exchanging codes with each other.
They weren’t even bothering with letting him in.
“Che” Kyouya purposefully clicked his tongue loud enough for them to hear and pouted.
“Megumi-cha~n.”
Hanging his empty teacup on his finger by the handle he spun it around in the air.
It was very unusual for his cup to become empty and get no refill for so long that it became completely dry like that. Bringing out refills at such a fast pace that you could call it a “full course tea attack” was Megumi’s trait.
“Huh?”
That was kind of a stupid act. He only noticed it after he called out to her that she wasn’t anywhere to be found.
But she was here just now.
“Hey, Kyoro.”
When he started looking around the room, Mao called out to him.
“What is it?”
Kyouya instantly replied.
“That will work perfectly. Take that cup and go stand over there.”
“Sorry?”
“Come on, just do it.”
“Okay…”
Kyouya stood up from his chair and walked to the spot she told him to while holding the cup.
He stood on the floor over the place Mao had pointed to.
He just stood there with cup in hand, doing nothing.
“Hmm, let’s see.”
Mao looked at him from the front, then from the side, and then she exchanged a meaningful glance with Shion.
“Kyoro-kun, go three centimeters forward. Now one centimeter to the right.”
Kyouya moved as she indicated.
He wasn’t really thinking about why he was doing any of it. He was just doing as he was told by the older ladies.
“You went too far. Walk just one finger’s length to the left. There, that’s it.”
After all the fine adjustments, his standing spot was finally settled.
“What’s so special about this spot?”
“It’s coming. Get in stance.”
“What?”
“Kyoro-kun, put the teacup over your head.”
“Like this?”
Not understanding a thing, Kyouya put the teacup on top of his head like he was told.
And there…
Something fell, letting out a subtle sound.
“What was that?”
When he looked up, a drop of water hit him on the head.
“Uhya!”
“Hey, don’t move! Megu will be back any time now.”
“Megumi-kun and Kirara went to look for a vessel.”
I see. He understood what was going on.
“Every year it’s that same spot. What’s more, it always happens precisely when there are five consecutive days of rain.”
“The building is made of old wood, so I guess it can’t be helped. Whoa, there! Wouldn’t want to get the computer wet.”
“We’re back. We borrowed some bowls, buckets and other things.”
The door suddenly opened, revealing Megumi and Kirara as they made their way into the room. Megumi was carrying as many vessels as her hands could support. Meanwhile, the powerful Kirara was carrying three times as many.
They distributed the vessels around to everybody.
Drip. Drop. Plop. Plat. Plot.
The GJ Club had become a great symphony of water leaks. Together they made up a full orchestra.
“It’s raining…“
The GJ Club’s Clubroom
The GJ Club’s resting and chatting spot.
A run-down clubroom, its ample s.p.a.ce being its only redeeming feature.
It excels in leakage when it rains. The wind that blows in through the gaps during winter is not to be underestimated either.
Of course it doesn’t have anything like air conditioning.
