No matter what Diego tried, nothing worked for betterment.
Watching her made him stressed too.
Nonetheless, he didn't want to leave her alone.
As time pa.s.sed, delving into the night, most of the students disappeared along with their partners. They wanted to continue prom on their own style.
Only a handful of couples remained inside the campus. It doesn't matter if there are fewer people or not because the music continued all night.
Without any of those nasty people to bother, Grace and Chloe continued dancing even without taking breaks. So did Anna and Anthony, the stamina beasts of the night.
Anna suggested taking a single break, and that is all they did. The rest of the time, the two danced, talked, and had fun moving around the floor.
..
"Guys, we are now playing the suggested songs and so, if you couples have any music to dance to, let us know:"
"Oh, we have one already. Now, playing for you is the 'Bleeding Love' by Leona Lewis. Wow, Sebastian is bleeding in love for this girl, I guess."
The host from the audio team announced.
The music started playing, alarming the couple that requested as well as another person, Lillian Grey.
Lillian flinched from the sound, and it took her to the course where she was once lost like now.
Even during the trip, Lillian struggled with Giselle's presence and ended up not talking to her. However, at that time, the problem was only at her side. She ended up taking Giselle to a mesmerizing place, and they both resolved it somehow.
'But, at what cost?'
'Right now, the two aren't talking to each other.'
Reality hit Lillian Grey harder than gravity.
It all happened so fast that Lillian never caught a breath of what she wanted for herself.
'What I want?' – Lillian wondered.
..
"I love you."
The first word that Giselle ever said to Lillian was her real confession.
Until then, the two were complete strangers.
Naturally, Giselle's confession triggered a tiny spark within Lillian and made her curious about this girl. Ever since that day, her mind steadily kept speculating about Giselle. She became curious about her presence. So much to the point that she got caught during Mr. Seth's cla.s.s and ended up getting scolded.
Lillian thought it was natural to get jumpy after a love confession. She expected it to fade away soon.
Call it fate or a coincidence, the two met again, but this time it was worse. Lillian met Giselle in the worst state. The re-encounter made Lillian help Giselle, through which the two began spending time together. What appeared to be a little spark without Lillian's knowledge, blossomed into a pa.s.sion.
Nevertheless, Lillian Grey did not realize. It was the first time she ever heard someone confess their love for her. The first time she gets to experience what it means to care for a stranger.
She couldn't grasp the emotions that ran deep in her heart. After all, Lillian Grey never dated before. Frankly put, she is an amateur when it comes to falling in love.
'What Giselle means to her?'
..
It was a different feeling.
Soon Lillian became possessive of Giselle.
The hidden affection made her overprotective of the girl. Although Lillian somehow felt compelled to protect, she never acknowledged the actual reason behind it.
'Because I care for Giselle.'
Their moments spent together turned out to be cherishing. Both treasured each other and often refused to part ways.
..
While Giselle secretly held onto her feelings, Lillian kept overlooking hers. The only thing that went inside her head was this person is someone special or close to her heart. She wanted to protect that person at all costs.
Nothing matters but the smile Giselle puts on her face while being with Lillian Grey.
Realizing it front the start, alarmed Lillian. Her movements kept failing to match with Diego. The boy struggled to watch his partner lose control.
'I wished to go to prom with you, but I can't, right?'
Those words back then when Giselle sprouted hurt Lillian Grey, subconsciously.
'I shouldn't have had any hope,'
'I shouldn't pursue any more."
'You don't have to worry for me, Lillian,'
'I'll be fine,'
It was the second time that Giselle said that she would be fine. The first one was when Lillian rejected her confession and tried to console Giselle.
When the person she cherished so close to her heart say such words and became distant, it hurt Lillian. As if someone flipped her world upside down, everything fell apart.
She didn't like it.
She never liked it.
The person she cares to leave her casually.
When that person was Giselle, it hurt Lillian more.
..
"I am worried about you."
Lillian's voice got so low that even with being so close, Diego couldn't hear it well.
"What did you say?" he asked her.
By now, Lillian wasn't herself. She didn't appear to be wary of her surroundings either.
All in her mind was Giselle and those depressing words she said to Lillian Grey.
'How could you say such things to me, Giselle?'
'I don't want to see you two get so close and only to regret it later.' – Anna's words, Lillian recalled.
'Who is Giselle to you?' – Diego's acquisition.
All this time, people around Lillian warned her with the same subject.
'Who is Giselle to you?'
'Giselle-'
'Giselle, she is special.'
"She is mine," Lillian mumbled.

"Huh? What are you saying, Lilly?" Diego called.
Diego sensed something displeasing coming from Lillian Grey. She wasn't looking like herself.
All of a sudden, Lillian ceased moving.
Diego limped from her abrupt halt. Following her, he stopped as well.
"What happened, Lilly?" he kept asking her, worriedly.
"I need to go," she spoke.
"What?"
"I need to go- to the restroom. Excuse me," Lillian said and then walked away from the spot.
She didn't even seem to remember that it was Diego to whom she responded. No one seems to appear in her vision except the images of one girl, Giselle.
Lillian rushed to the restroom as fast as she could.
Diego looked dumbfounded from what just happened right now. He found himself standing alone, on the dance floor, without a partner. It took a few minutes to realize that his partner left him in the middle of their dance.
Rather than jumping into conclusions, he quietly walked away and went to the corner. He waited near the exit, where Lillian ran off.
**
Standing in front of the mirror, Lillian Grey saw her reflection.
How red she appeared!
All this time, she had been turning a blind eye to her friends, to Giselle, and her own feelings. She kept confusing herself about love when the answer is so simple.
'Do I really like Giselle?' – Lillian asked herself the question.
Yes, Giselle did confess to Lillian. She was the first one to reach out, but as they spent time together and got to know each other, things changed.
Lillian began to like Giselle.
Not only her, but her personality, her character, her cute expressions, the way she talked, the way she moved, and overall her entire existence.
'When did I start liking her?' – Lillian wondered as she stood in the empty bathroom while witnessing herself in the mirror.
It was so unclear when the feeling grew, but by the time they went to the trip, Lillian felt attached to Giselle already.
When she took Giselle to the secret place, Lillian's heart seemed to accept that Giselle is someone special, unlike anyone in her life.
That night when Giselle, for the first time, hugged Lillian, she remembered how it felt. Her touch and the warmth it gave to Lillian.
She remembers it all.
**
Several minutes are gone, but there was no sign of Lillian Grey returning. Diego's fear deepened each second. He searched for Anna and found her happily dancing with her partner, Anthony.
Unable to break their peace, Diego tried calling Lillian. She must have a mobile phone with her.
No matter how many times he tried, the call won't get connected.
Diego panicked. His hands trembled as he pressed the 'call back' b.u.t.ton, again and again, reaching out to Lillian Grey.
Still, there was no response.
He lost all of his strength. Losing his balance, Diego stood with supporting his weight on the wall.
His mobile buzzed.
It was a text from Lillian Grey.
Diego opened it immediately.
//
Lilly:
I'm sorry, Diego. I'm not feeling well, and so, I'll be leaving right now. I will talk to you soon.
//
Diego felt his heartfelt tight after reading the message.
'What does she mean by leaving?' – he read the message, again and again, trying to find any clues or hidden information behind it.
However, there was none.
By the time he went out and searched everywhere, Lillian Grey had already left the campus.
'Where are you, Lillian Grey?' – Diego cried to himself.
**
Lillian paused her footsteps.
She was on the road, and without the jacket, Lillian was freezing in the cold night. She remembered leaving the coat inside the car. All she carried with her at that time was her mobile phone. Everything else should be in the car or with Anna.
Nonetheless, it doesn't matter to Lillian anymore, because she was on a pursuit.
