Daniel peered at the woman before he glanced towards the construction site, watching some workers who were walking out of the place.
He stood up when Evangeline just bolted downstairs and out of the café.
He was stunned for a moment before he sheepishly smiled in surrender.
She must really like him a lot.
It was a no brainer.
Evangeline had fallen for Eric — hard.
Else, why would the woman wait for the man until two in the morning?
Only, Evangeline hadn't realized it just how far she had crossed that path of no return.
-----
Evangeline bolted out of the café and immediately fixed herself. Compared to the woman who just ran a marathon, the woman now was composed and refined as she flipped her hair. She raised her head high and crossed her arms, standing beside where Eric's bike was parked.
Actually, this was the second time that she had waited for him this late until early in the morning. And since it was a weekend tomorrow, she knew that Eric wouldn't be available for chatting the whole day because of his work. Unlike before that he could cut his job short to spend some time with her. Now, this was the only time that she could talk with him alone.
Though the primary reason was, she had come to the point that she had to talk to him about his sudden change which was bugging her to no end.
Hmp! Insolent servant of mine, it's high time that I show you what it means to be arrogant in front of this lady.
Evangeline unconsciously reached for her bag when she thought of Eric appearing at any moment. She wanted to grab her compact powder to check and retouch herself, yet, her purse was nowhere to be felt.
"Idiot, you left your bag upstairs. Are you that excited to see him even though you just saw each other a while ago at school?"
A pleasant voice, came from behind her, made her turned towards it.
Daniel came out from the café with a wry smile on his lips, carrying her designer's bag in one hand while his other hand rested inside his pocket.
She immediately grabbed her bag and turned to the other side to hide her somewhat reddened cheeks while she tweaked her voice, pretending to sound arrogant. "None of your business."
She immediately pulled out her compact powder and retouched herself.
"Heh…."
Evangeline's eyelids twitched while she finished retouching herself and put everything back inside her purse before facing the grinning man beside her.
"What?"
Daniel turned to the other side as he huffed a "nothing" in response.
Then he slightly rubbed his nose as he muttered. "Never expected that you can fall this ha—agh!"
However, he didn't finish his words when out of the blue, Evangeline kicked him on his leg using that deadly pointy stiletto of hers.
"I think that the young Prince doesn't want his tongue anymore. Do you want me to cut it out for you?"
Evangeline continued to kick Daniel's leg while the man tried to avoid the woman in a frenzy. "I'm just joking! Geez, why are you so touchy today?"
"I dare you to say that again!"
Evangeline was indeed easily angered these days due to Eric's coldness towards her and Daniel wasn't helping in her predicament the least.
She raised her bag and smacked it on Daniel's face.
However, a familiar deep soothing voice from behind stopped her hand midway.
"What are you doing?"
The hand that was holding the rigid like steel leather bag stopped mid-air as Evangeline gradually pulled it back.
She slightly coughed and like nothing was wrong, turned to face Eric with a proper posture one of a high-cla.s.s lady with a proud smile.
"Eric, a coincidence meeting you here."
"….."
"….."
Daniel who was at the side, rubbing his endured leg, looked at the woman with condescending eyes. What do you mean a coincidence? You have waited more than four hours for him!
…..
…..
After seconds that no one seemed to want to break the silence, Eric sighed in exasperation. It felt like he was dealing with naughty children.
"Evangeline, it's already late. You should go home." Eric knew that Evangeline was lying and didn't hide it from his tone of voice.
While Evangeline didn't pay Eric's tone of voice one bit as she replied. "I didn't bring my car." Then she glanced at Eric's bike, hinting that he should bring her home.
Eric's face didn't contort one bit, remaining neutral throughout the conversation. "Have Mr. Richardson bring you home." Though his face was devoid of any emotion, his tone, however, betrayed his stoic look.
It was the first time that Eric had called Daniel by his last name with light irritation and edge in his voice, appearing detached and formal like they weren't cla.s.smates at all.
He didn't know why Evangeline was together with the man, but he was not going to asked why even if it stirred his annoyance.
But apparently, Evangeline and Daniel didn't seem to notice the fluctuation on Eric's tone of voice as Daniel stopped rubbing his leg and glanced at Evangeline.
"You didn't bring your car? Then why don't you ride with—BUGH! *cough… Eric… ride with Eric… I also... didn't bring my car… *wheeze…."
Daniel changed his words midway when Evangeline ruthlessly elbowed him in the ribs! In the f.u.c.king ribs that almost sapped all the air in his lungs from the bone breaking blow. While the woman pretended that she didn't do anything, her eyes stayed glued on Eric.
This girl is the devil! She could have just elbowed me in the stomach! Why chose the bone?! Are you trying to send me to the hospital?!
While Daniel continued writhing from agony and pain, Eric was frowning while saying. "Then, I'll call for a cab."
Eric didn't let the two people reply, he hurriedly hailed a cab.
He ignored when his sight caught Evangeline's hurt expression. Something flickered in his eyes, yet he immediately shut them tight. And as he opened them, those emotions were gone and his eyes were back to being dull and lifeless.
Just in time that a taxi halted near to where they were standing. Eric opened the pa.s.senger door and gestured for the two to get in.
Evangeline didn't, even for a second, strayed her eyes on Eric's face as she said. "Daniel, you go ahead. I have something to talk to Eric." Her calm façade couldn't contain her anger and her tone of voice turned sharp spiked with irritation. She had about enough from the way the man was acting.
Daniel who was apparently just a spectator and had gotten in between the fights of the two was the one who was receiving the blunt as he stared dumbfoundedly at the woman while he could only mutter an, "eh?"
However, he immediately regained control when Evangeline smiled at him which made his fine hairs stood on edge. "R-right away."
Then he hopped into the cab before he silently shut his eyes, cursing inwardly. Why do I have to ride a taxi?! I have a car, alright?! A freak'n Lamborghini Veneo Roadster! Don't you know how much that car cost, huh? I have plenty of cars! I don't need a taxi!
…..
…..
Even when the cab was already meters away and completely disappeared, Evangeline and Eric stayed silent.
Evangeline was looking at Eric, inserting her dominance while the latter was also staring at her, void of any expression.
"….."
"….."
Finally, it was Eric who gave up when he saw that the woman wouldn't budge from her stance.
He sighed heavily and walked towards his bike, stuffing all his things in the front basket while reaching for another helmet and gave it to the woman.
"Here… put this on. I'll take you home."
The corner of Evangeline's lips hooked up in an undetected pleasant smile as she accepted the helmet. "I want to talk to you. You don't mind if we talk in my house, right?"
Eric didn't reply. Instead, he removed his jacket and gave it to the woman before hopping on his bike.
On the other hand, Evangeline beamed while putting on the jacket before she casually planted her b.u.t.t on the pa.s.senger seat.
Even though Eric was talking and acting cold towards her, yet the concern and care was still there and didn't lessen one bit.
