He didn't know why Evangeline kept on appearing at the restaurant where he works since that time she had known that he works there.
Ever since that day, the aloof, indifferent woman had been coming and having her lunch and would stay until dinner while she would specifically request for him and only him to serve her.
Even so, he never once dared to think that the woman had feelings for him for the reason that he knew better.
The woman just wanted for him to submit to her.
He could feel it in his bones.
"h.e.l.lo Eric, how are you fairing?" Evangeline flashed out her practice smile that didn't fail every time she showed it on males – until this man showed up that is.
In truth, Evangeline herself didn't know why she was so obsessed in making Eric submit to her. The more the guy brushed her off, the more challenged she felt.
Usually, if a guy played hard to get, she wouldn't bat an eyelid and resumed her everyday life. She was never in a shortage of loyal servants anyway.
Now, she dismissed her actions as a game, an entertainment and amus.e.m.e.nt in her boring life.
Must be his eyes.
I want his silver eyes for myself.
Must be it.
"I'm fine Miss Heart." Like always, Eric would answer straight to the point and as short as possible without any emotion on his face.
Evangeline continued her perfect smile.
Hmp! I promise you at the end of the day. You'll be calling me 'My Queen' like everyone else.
"The usual Eric." Then Evangeline crossed her legs and held her chin, "are you free after your shift?"
Eric was taken aback, and for a moment, he forgot to answer.
For days, Evangeline would dine until the restaurant closed, but she never did once ask if he was free or not.
To Evangeline, whether she admitted to it or not, she was running out of patience. Two more days and the one-week holiday would end. She must make Eric submit to her before cla.s.s starts!
"I have another work after my shift here," Eric answered honestly.
Evangeline held her face high without looking at the man. She poured herself some tea before she took a sip gracefully.
"How much is your night?"
Again, Eric was taken aback.
"Excuse me?"
Evangeline placed down her cup and calmly expounded.
"I'll be honest with you, Eric. No more games." Evangeline sat straight as she crossed her fingers on the table. "I want you to serve me in school."
"....."
"....."
Eric finally couldn't help but frown as his lips twitched in amus.e.m.e.nt.
"I won't take up your time at work. If you like, we can talk after your shift's ended." Evangeline inhaled her rose tea, took a sipped and placed down her cup, remaining cold and uncaring, not looking at the man anymore.
"I'm a wealthy employer. You can earn more in a day with me than what you'll earn in a month at your night shifts." Evangeline added while Eric remained looking at her with his unreadable face, yet amused eyes.
"….."
"….."
"Alright…" Eric answered after a while, "but you have to wait for me to finish my whole night's job."
Evangeline stopped sipping her tea and finally looked at the man with piercingly cold eyes.
This n.o.body actually dares to ask me to wait?
"Miss Heart, I have to go and won't hold your time any longer. If you still wanted to talk to me about it, we can do it after I finish all my night shifts." Then without glancing back, Eric left the dumbfounded woman in place.
----?----
"Miss Heart."
"Eric."
Evangeline stood up when the man with messy hair and thick eyegla.s.ses went up to her table after his shift ended. She sized Eric up and down.
He was wearing a simple black shirt beneath an old jacket paired with jeans and timeworn tennis shoes with his tattered backpack.
"I'll take it that what you'll discuss with me is quite important seeing that you're willing to wait." Eric said straight to the point without any hint of mockery, just amus.e.m.e.nt in his deep voice.
Evangeline inwardly sneered.
She still couldn't fathom why she waited. It just, all of her couldn't accept to give up midway. She wanted those silver irises for herself. She thought that if she could offer a huge amount of money, the boy would immediately jump at her proposition, seeing that he was working day in and day out to earn messily some of income from his payroll.
But contrary to her a.s.sumptions, Eric didn't seem to care about money at all!
What a contradicting guy. Why work so hard then?
Evangeline breathed a mouthful of air, trying to calm herself.
She maintained her imposing aura. "That's right. It is important for me and also for you."
"…. Alright. My next and last shift for today is on a construction site. It'll end two in the morning."
"…...."
"...."
It took a lot of self-control on Evangeline's part to maintain her calm, indifferent facade.
The nerve of this guy to mention it just now?!
"If you want. I can give you the address, and you can meet me there after my shift." Eric said seriously. There was mirth beneath his silver eyes and a hidden challenge in his tone.
"How about tomorrow then?"
"Tomorrow, my work starts at six in the morning and will end at two in the morning. This schedule will continue for the rest of the holiday. During weekends, I also have the same schedule."
"..."
This man! Doesn't he rest at all? Why work so much if you're not interested in money?!
Seeing the woman's troubled face, Eric decided not to tease her anymore and softly chimed in. "Should we just continue our talk when the school starts?"
Evangeline's nails dug on her crossing arms, trying to held her composure. "No, I'll wait. I'll come with you to your next work."
Evangeline didn't know what compelled her to say those words. Pride maybe, or stubbornness and unwillingness to back down. But whatever it was – it was too late to take back those words.
"Alright. Shall we go?"
Evangeline just nodded and with an overflowing confidence, walked out of the restaurant with Eric tailing behind her, slightly shaking his head, holding an entertained smile.
