Chapter 5 Part 1 – Don't judge a book by its cover

It hurts!

It hurts so much!

My head hurts!

The ringtone of a phone rang in the background.

Chen Minhao had completely no idea how he came back to his home.

He could only recall that last night, he, Kang Hui, Gao Dao and Zhou Mingrui were at the dinning table toasting each other and chugging beer down their stomach until he went stupefied and befuddled, unable to discern his directions.

“You are still asleep, aren't you?” Kang Hui's dissatisfied voice sounded from the other end of the call, “I've called your phone for a long time but you didn't answer.”

When he heard Kang Hui's voice, Chen Minhao pinched hard at his left arm that was holding the phone with his right hand to force himself to stay awake.

Afterwards, he said in a deep voice, “I'm awake. What's the matter Sis Kang?”

Kang Hui's valiant and dashing figure last night during the dinner surfaced in his mind while he answered her.

“You're a good drinker. You can drink up to eight bottles of beers before you start to feel a little tipsy. You can drink up to thirteen bottles before you collapse. From now on, if you go out to drink, remember that's your limit.”

On one hand, Chen Minhao felt warmth in his heart as he understood the intention behind Kang Hui's action of endlessly toasting them last night, but on the other hand, he felt a little awkward as he did not know how he was supposed to reply her.

“I'll be letting you know your schedule for next week now. Memorize it.”

Chen Minhao replied instinctively, “I can appear in a show so soon?”

Kang Hui smirked, “It looks like you are still in your dream.”

Chen Minhao regretted immediately after posing the question. To avoid the conversation from entering into awkward territory, he changed the topic: “Aren't the three of us training together?”

“Of course not. You guys only have four weeks left before you are off to《Produce 101》. I can only suit the remedy according to the case, and specially in heavy doses, to make the right remedial steps to correct every single shortcomings you all have as quickly as possible.”

“Your main priority for next week is to go to the gym.”

“Gym?”

“Chen Minhao, you are too skinny.”

Upon hearing that, Chen Minhao indeed agreed that his body looked quite flimsy.

“Starting from next Monday to Thursday, you will report to Kevin in the gym on the 9th floor every morning at 10 am. Kevin is a gym instructor that I'd specially hired for you. Whenever film crews need their actors to bulk up their muscles fast, they will look for him. The effects of his sessions are prominent but costly. I don't expect your biceps to burst out from your sleeves within four weeks of gym, but I require you to have a firm body and look healthy and sunshiny. Keep this in mind, it cost a lot to engage Kevin's service. It cost more to have him over for four sessions than to pay your monthly salary. Do not waste the company's investment.”

“On Friday morning, come to the company's recording studio located on the 10th floor at 10 o'clock,” said Kang Hui. Speaking with hidden meaning in her words, she continued: “This is an opportunity that I obtained for you using my personal connection. The success of this all boils down to you. Seize it.”

“Have reasonable rest and remember not to eat any spicy food. No smoking and no alcohol too. If you have time on your hand, practice your singing with 《Simple Love Song》, but do not overuse your voice. Keep this in mind! If you let the company down, not even Buddha can help you!”

Chen Minhao obediently acknowledged, “Will do. I will take note, Sis Kang.”

“I hope that you aren't just paying lip service to me! Do you have any other queries?”

“Do the company provide guitar lesson? I'd like to learn guitar.”

Because he had no musical knowledge, he was extremely limited in the things that he could do.

The most prominent impact of not having any knowledge about music and instrument was that others may find it reasonable that he could write a song without a tortuous melody and complex arrangement but if he was to keep writing “original self-written” songs in succession, even a r.e.t.a.r.d would sense that something is wrong.

“Guitar? There are only four weeks remaining before you are to enter 《Produce 101》. are you sure you want to learn it now?”
