Becoming A Global Superstar Starting As An Idol Trainee Chapter 1

Chapter 1 – A new world and a new ident.i.ty.

Chen Minhao was a graduate of the Peking University Faculty of Law.

Immediately after he had graduated from the university, he obtained a job opportunity to work in a top-notch law firm, and was on the verge of realizing his great ambition.

However, on the night of the graduation gathering, fate arranged a transmigration for him without a return ticket back.

"If you're brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new beginning." Chen Minhao consoled himself as he laid on the bean bag while at the same time, digesting the memories of the original host.

The original host of the body he took over had the same name as him. Both were called Chen Minhao.

Two years ago, because of a funny video which his dorm mate filmed, the original host became famous unexpectedly.

Chen Minhao got up from the bean bag, and switched on the computer. Then, using Baidu, he searched for the video in which the original host became popular with. (TL's note: Baidu is the Chinese equivalent of google.)

In the video, the dorm mate of the original host was singing a funny song in heavy make-up whereas only the face of the original host appeared in the video as he watches his wacky dorm mate.

His face only occupied one over sixteen of the screen, and in the one minute video, he only did one thing, and that was gleefully watching his "wise" dorm mate.

In the end, it was precisely his "harmless" smile that made him famous on the internet.

When the original host opened an account on Weibo on the day that he became famous, incoming comments commenting on his wall reached 100000. (TL's note: Weibo is the Chinese equivalent of twitter.)

A talent scout from Divine Dream celebrity agency got a hold of his contact information from G.o.d knows where. And the young and inexperienced original host was lured into the rosy castle that the talent scout drew in the sky.

The contract he signed was for a period of five years. The original host was seventeen years old when he signed the contract.

Two years had pa.s.sed since then. The original host is still a trainee currently, enjoying food and accommodation benefits provided by the company, and a meager wage of four thousands yuan per month before tax.

In this world, China's history experienced the same dynasty of Tang; Song; Yuan; Ming, and Qing; same as his former world, but G.o.d knows which forefather flapped his b.u.t.terfly wings as many of the well-known songs and movies never appeared anymore.

After the transmigration, Chen Minhao still retained his legal knowledge. But, he understood clearly that his ident.i.ty now was that of a high school drop-out, and finding a job relating to the legal industry would be highly difficult for him.

While Chen Minhao was in the middle of contemplating his future, the ringtone of an incoming video call rang. The call was from someone that the original host saved as "Mother-empress".

Chen Minhao guessed that it could the mother of the original host who called.

He took a deep breath, and felt that he couldn't avoid her for the rest of his entire life, so he pressed the “accept” b.u.t.ton on the screen.

After he accepted the call, a middle-aged couple appeared on the phone screen.

The middle-aged man in the video call was frowning as he begun to speak immediately after the call connected: "Look at how messy your room looks, don't you know that you should clean your room? You only know how to daydream, and fantasizing about becoming a celebrity everyday."

The middle-aged woman pushed the middle-aged man away, and said: "What are you talking about? Minmin is a trainee, he is well on the road of becoming a celebrity."

Although the middle-aged man no longer appeared in the video, his slightly bitter voice  could still be heard in the call: "Do you know of any other kids that are like him?”

The pretty middle-aged woman turned her head, and said: "Oh please! Can you open your eyes, and see this kaleidoscopic world? There are so many professions in this world, and every profession has its masters."

"He had tried for two years already, and he still remains a trainee. He might as well return home, and learn how to make buns from me. It's possible to earn ten thousands a year at least."

"Make buns? Are you crazy? Before I married you, you were making buns. Twenty over years had pa.s.sed since then, and you are still making buns now. How dare you have the guts to make my son learn how to make buns from you!"

The middle-aged woman turned her head back towards Chen Minhao, her furious stare suddenly became gentle like water. "Minmin, keep it up. Mum will always support you. Do you have enough expenses for yourself? I'll wire some money to you. You mustn't be too harsh on yourself when you are living alone out there."

Chen Minhao had guessed correctly that the middle-aged couple in the video call were the parents of the original host. But, he did not expect that the conversation would develop like this.

Just as Chen Minhao was about to refuse her, the ringtone of his phone abruptly rang. The caller ID indicated that the caller was He Tian. He Tian was the person in-charge of the trainees in Divine Dream agency.

"Sis He." Chen Haomin answered the call without any hesitation. He was silently thankful that it was such a coincidence that the call came in at such a right time.

To a small fry like Chen Minhao that had not made his debut yet, he must show enough respect to his agent who have control over his life and death.

“Come to the company's practice room one now.” He Tian did not make any small talk, she went straight to the point, and ordered Chen Minhao.

“Sure.” Chen Minhao had a clear understanding on his current circ.u.mstances. Survival was his first priority as he needed to survive first before he could thrive.

After he hung up the call, Chen Minhao immediately sent a message to the mother of the original host.

“I've enough money for my expenses. My agent just called me, hence the reason the video call disconnected. The company is summoning me over, so I'll be heading there now. I'll call you two back later.” He hadn't thought of how he was going to face the parents of the original host. He felt that it was best if he could delay it as much as possible, hence, he himself did not know when would the “later” be.

Chen Minhao took a cab to the company as fast as he could. When he arrived, he discovered that he was not the only one being summoned to the company, other trainees who were playing small supporting roles often in other films came back to the company as well.

He Tian had not arrived yet, thus, all the trainees sat inside the practice room and chatted.

In the original host's memory, the relationship he had with the other trainees was rather distant.

As Chen Minhao just transmigrated to this world, he was quite afraid that he would say something wrong, so he simply chose an obscure spot in the corner of the room, and sat down.

He opened his message app, and saw an incoming message from “Mother-empress”: Minmin, go ahead with your stuff. Although your Dad might look strict to you, he actually misses you a lot. He keeps mentioning about you to me everyday. Minmin, fighting! Mum will always be your number one fan.” At the end of the message, there was a smiley emoticon as well.

Right then, a person saved as “Emperor-father” wired five thousand to him.

When he saw the notification, his heart felt warmth. After all, as an orphan in his previous life, he had never been treated like this before.

Suddenly, Chen Minhao felt that someone had put their arm around his shoulder from behind. When he turned his head to look, he discovered that it was Gao Dao.

Gao Dao was also one of the trainees in Divine Dream agency. With the original host's memory as a guide, compared to the other trainees, Chen Minhao talked to Gao Dao relatively more.

But, this was not because he had a good relationship with the original host. It was simply because Gao Dao was a natural socializer, and he could talk a lot with every trainees.

To be honest, Chen Minhao do not like to be friends with this kind of people. Because, after you became friends them, you will discover that your friend will become his friend, your acquaintances will become his friend, and even your enemy will become his friend as well.

Gao Dao leaned close to his ear, and asked: “Do you know why Sis He summoned all of us here for?”

Chen Minhao wasn't used to be so near to someone, but he endured the discomfort, and did not push him away. He calmly replied: “I'm not sure.”

Gao Dao said cheerfully: “I know. I heard that there will be a selection for a few people among the trainees to form a a group for debut.”

Chen Minhao did not want to discuss the topic anymore, thus, he only replied one word: “Oh.”

Seeing that Chen Minhao had no intention of asking him more on the topic, Gao Dao suddenly lost the interest to continue. After he gave a little smile, he started using his phone.

After some time had pa.s.sed, the door of the practice room was opened once again.

After discerning who entered the room, the trainees that were sitting on the floor hurriedly got on their feet in succession, and immediately stood straight before greeting: “Sis He.”

He Tian surveyed the room, and when she found that everyone were present, she declared: “There's a good news. The streaming platform – Kiwi is hosting a talent show 《Produce 101》. The company is preparing to send a three-members group to enter the compet.i.tion.

As soon as she finished speaking, Chen Minhao heard Gao Dao shouting excitedly twice before asking: “What will the selection be based on?”

He Tian calmly lifted her eyes, and said: “We're rather pressed for time. Chief Kang will conduct a one-on-one interview with all the trainees this week. The selection result will take into consideration the trainees' usual test results in cla.s.s, and the performance in the interview.

Gao Dao who could barely contain his patience posed a question again: “Why is the interview conducted by Chief Kang?”

He Tian who got interrupted once again, frowned. But, she still went on to explain: “Chief Kang will be directly in-charge of this three-members group.”

“I'll let Chief Kang's a.s.sistant notify everyone of their interview time. Remember to ensure that you are reachable at all times. Be punctual for the interview.” He Tian said nonchalantly as she ignored the trainees whose eyes were beaming with excitement.

After she informed everyone of the details regarding the selection, she dispersed the trainees.

Chen Minhao decided to walk home. The place that he stayed wasn't far from the company. Furthermore, he could not claim for reimburs.e.m.e.nt if he took a cab home.

Although the company provided dorms for trainees to live in, the dorms were to be shared with the other trainees. Thus, the original host moved out to live alone, 2500 Yuan per month was the rent.

Chen Minhao felt that he was fortunate as the company provided food to the trainees as Chen Minhao wasn't so thick-skinned to reach out and ask for living expenses from the parents of the original host when he had already took over his body.

During the twenty minutes of walking, Chen Minhao reflected on the situation that he was in: “Even without considering the three million settlement fee that he must pay to the company if he ever terminate the contract on his end, finding legal-related work would be very difficult for him as although he have the knowledge, he had neither a school or a certificate to back his knowledge with.

Also, at this point in time, his starting point as an artist could be consider high, at least his look qualifies to be a star. Besides, his mind contained songs, movies, and etc. that had never appeared in this world before. It won't be too difficult to make use of these resources to establish himself as a talented producer and artist.

Chen Minhao thought about his current situation and his remaining bank balance, and made the first decision since he transmigrated. Do a good job as a trainee, and work hard to debut, and ultimately become a star.
