Chapter 352 Couldn’t shirk the responsibility
Manla was still worried about Gu Yan when she got off work. She had planned to have dinner with colleagues but now she just changed her mind and wanted to accompany her when she thought that Gu Yan was confronted with such a trouble alone.
“Miss Manla, you are way out of line. You ought to be ready for some drinks by then.” Manla looked up and just got an eye contact with the arrogant speaker. The satiric voice came from Chen Yan. She was the only one in the company who was dissatisfied with Manla. Now she just stood still and waited to laugh at Manla.
“Mr. w.a.n.g, I have something important to do tonight, so…could you…” Manla just ignored Chen Yan’s sarcastic remarks and said to her boss. Her boss was expressionless. Standing still in front of him and looking at his gloomy eyes, she was actually very nervous.
As Manla’s boss, w.a.n.g Li had accustomed to Manla’s various excuses. But fortunately, it just was a dinner party. w.a.n.g Li seemed to want say something but did not say anything.
His grave face was softened and he did not reject her. Manla jumped up happily and said, “Thanks, boss! You keep chatting and I am going to leave to leave you alone.”
Manla disappeared quickly from their sight and panted in the corridor where they could not see her.
Manla finally got relieved after her colleagues left. She unlocked and looked at her phone. It was six fifteen. She thought Gu Yan should be at home.
Manla took a taxi and arrived at Gu Yan’s apartment quickly. She knocked the door only to find the door was unlocked like usual. Gu Yan was really a careless person who often forgot to lock the door after entering home.
“Gu Yan…” Manla poked out her head, calling Gu Yan softly in the dark room. Her body was leaning on a corner with her hands feeling for the light switch in fear and trembling.
Suddenly, a dark shadow moved. She vaguely saw that the dark shadow was approaching her, which made her breathless. Therefore, instinctively, she quickly picked up a cushion on the sofa, trembling in the corner.
“Gu Yan, is that you?” Manla asked tentatively to the dark shadow. Her heart sped up and the sweat on her forehead glistened in the moonlight.
The dark shadow didn’t answer. The whole room was so quiet. Looking at the dark shadow that was getting closer and closer to her, Manla screamed out and rushed towards the door.
Suddenly the light was snapped on. Immediately the whole room was illuminated by the dim light. Manla stopped running and stared angrily at Gu Yan who couldn’t stop laughing.
“Seriously? You jest so lightly in a time of crisis? Come on. You freaked me out!” Manla frowned and complained, staring at Gu Yan with a sense of melancholy.
Manla was afraid that Gu Yan would hurt herself when she was at home alone, so she came to comfort her. She was a little p.i.s.sed off because she just got fooled by Gu Yan.
Looking at Manla who was no more gentle and mild, Gu Yan knew the joke had gone too far.
“Manla, come on! It is my fault. Don’t be angry.” Gu Yan immediately ran to Manla to comfort her by playing cute. Manla had already forgiven her because of her irresistible coquetry.
Gu Yan guided Manla to the sofa. When she found that Manla was frowning, Gu Yan became serious again and whispered, “Manla…”
Manla glanced at Gu Yan who was guilty and snickered secretly, which was caught by Gu Yan.
“Well done, Manla! How dare you? Wait and see how I’ll punish you!” Gu Yan put her long and thin fingers on Manla’s waist, pinched gently and didn’t stop until Manla cried.
“All right. Stop it. Don’t be like a kid, okay?” Manla pushed her hands away and became more serious.
“Look at you. You really have a good state of mind. Now you are confronted with a big problem. Have you come up with a solution?” Manla started to blame Gu Yan. The words she said just reminded Gu Yan of the problem she faced now. Therefore, the smile on her face gradually disappeared, replaced by a look of sadness. Manla got nervous again.
“No. No good solution except repaying the money. I really don’t know how to get so much money!” Gu Yan was leaning on the sofa, staring at the ceiling. Exactly, for Gu Yan who was penniless, the huge debt was a disaster.
“Have you met Jiang Jingcheng yet? You should let those guys ask him for the money. It’s not you who borrowed from them.” Manla argued and her voice became louder.
“I can’t shirk my responsibility because there is my seal on these IOUs.” Gu Yan shook her head helplessly and looked at her blankly, but she was so grateful for Manla’s support.
“What? Your seal? They have really crossed the line!”
“That has gone too far. You have to learn from it and pay much more attention when you meet such kind of people in the future.”
Manla kept talking and her words continued to echo in Gu Yan’s ears. Gu Yan got tired of her words and took a nap on the sofa.
In a daze, Gu Yan shivered and woke up because the room was so cold.
It was already late at night. As the cold wind blew in from the window, the temperature in the room dropped. Gu Yan wore her slippers and went to the window, admiring the scene at night and hearing the sound of falling rain.
She stood in front of the window and looked down on the city at night. The warm lights, cars coming and going, high-rise buildings and the steady stream of pedestrians, all these had shaped this vibrant city. Everyone was fighting for life.
Thinking of what happened these days, Gu Yan became sensitive and couldn’t control her emotions anymore. She couldn’t help crying. Tears rolled down her ruddy cheeks and fell onto the ground.
“Gu Yan…” Gu Yan heard the familiar voice. It was Manla who was calling her. Wiping the tears quickly and adjusting her mood, she turned back and smiled at Manla.
“Gu Yan, I have consulted one of my friends majoring in law. She said you should call the police to protect your own legal rights with the law…” Manla knew Gu Yan cried just now when she saw her red and swollen eyes. Gu Yan always pretended to be tough in order to rea.s.sure everyone.
“I have considered it already. I will come up with an alternative solution. On one hand, I will call the police. On the other hand, I still have to continue to raise money because I have to take some responsibility for it.”
