Feng Yu greeted Patten with lots of dishes and kept asking him to try all of them. But Feng Yu just refuse to ask what’s the purpose of this meeting.
After a while, Patten could not stand it. Even when Li Zekai is around, he still asked Feng Yu.
“Mr. Feng, you have become Hong Kong’s citizen not long ago?” Patten put down his chopsticks and asked.
Patten suspects Feng Yu had purposely ordered these dishes today. It was hard to pick up the food with chopsticks today. He knew how to use chopsticks, but he is not very good at it and had almost embarra.s.sed himself a few times.
That’s right. Feng Yu had done it on purpose.
“Why? Are you investigating me?” Feng Yu asked in an annoyed tone.
Feng Yu’s Hong Kong ident.i.ty is given to him by Iron Fist Zhu, and Patten should not know about this, and the two pa.s.sports Feng Yu is holding.
“Mr. Feng, don’t misunderstand me. I am saying that if you had become a Hong Konger earlier, I would have known you much earlier.” Patten explained.
“Oh…”
Patten was going crazy as Feng Yu is not playing the game according to the rules. How can I carry on with the conversation if you are giving me a single word reply?!
But Patten had no choice. If he can get a group of tyc.o.o.ns to take up British nationality, it will be good for his political career.
After Hong Kong’s return, Patten will be doing diplomatic work on UK and HK relationships. But if he can increase his portfolio to China, or even Southeast Asia, it will be better.
“Mr. Feng, what do you think of Hong Kong joining China?” Patten asked.
Feng Yu frowned. “It’s Hong Kong’s return to China. Hong Kong has always been a part of China, and it is only rented to England. Both countries had agreed to this.”
d.a.m.n! This moron makes it sound like Hong Kong had always been part of the UK. F**king shameless! No wonder he is a politician!
Patten decided to skip this question to avoid angering Feng Yu. If he made Feng Yu angry, it would be hard for him to persuade him to take up British citizenship.
Patten’s strategy to persuade other tyc.o.o.ns to take up British citizenship was to talk bad about the Communist Party, by exaggerating the negative news!
Feng Yu is from China and had taken up Hong Kong Citizenship. One of the reasons might be Hong Kong is more developed, and Feng Yu might not be happy in China.
“Mr. Feng, the business environment in China is not very good, right? From what I know, many of the Chinese officials are corrupted and had too much authority. Furthermore, there is only one party in China, which is the Communist Party, and there are no oppositions. This way, the country might move in the wrong direction.” Patten used his usual method. Once Feng Yu agreed with him, he can continue with the topic.
“Mr. Patten, have you been to China? I think the furthest you had been in Guangzhou, or many Shenzhen or Guangdong. Your understanding of China is lacking.” Feng Yu replied calmly and then… keep quiet!
This is the most frustrating part of an argument or disagreement. The other party is saying what you said is wrong but refuse to tell you which part is wrong.
“Mr. Feng, although I have not been to China, I had followed Chinese news. Almost every day, there will be government officials getting arrested for corruption or violating the laws. These show the character of those officials!” Patten continued.
“What sort of news are you watching? Internal publications? I admit that there are many corrupted officials in China, and many of them were arrested. But that shows that the Party is cleaning up their Officials and stopping corruption. I disagree with your comment on their character. Those Chinese officials are much better than the commoners in China!”
In the past, most of the highly educated graduates had joined the government service, and what Feng Yu said is not wrong.
“Stopping corruption? That is all fake. How can the Officials decide the punishment for their fellow officials? This is wrong, and which official can guarantee that they will not make any mistake?”
Patten was feeling glad that Feng Yu is starting to interact with him on this topic. This way, he can slowly convince Feng Yu of the dangers after Hong Kong’s return.
“Then can I ask how does the UK handle the cases involving their Civil servants? Are the ones handling their cases, not Civil servants themselves?” Feng Yu asked.
You all are doing the same thing, yet you want to criticize us?
“It’s different. For example, there are many district representatives in the Legislative Council Commission of Hong Kong. We represent the interest of the people.” Patten explained.
“Really? How about we compare the proportion of corrupted officers from both sides? I think the British have a higher proportion. The government servants are getting high salaries, but they are still corrupted. This shows that your policies had failed!” Feng Yu sneered.
There are many politicians in the UK, and what do politicians do? Play with politics and impose policies that are popular with the people to gain support. After that, they will find ways to benefit from their powers. Just this alone, the Chinese officials are much better.
“That is because the Party had covered up most of the cases.”
“Are you saying that the UK did not cover-up? You all have lots of parties, and your policies are always changing. I think this is a joke. I am holding on to Hong Kong’s pa.s.sport because I need it for my businesses, and it’s not that I dislike China! My parents are still in China!”
Patten was embarra.s.sed and had not expected this.
“Mr. Feng, let’s talk about the business environment. China’s economy is far behind the UK. Hong Kong had developed well under British rule and who knows what would happen after China takes over. Think about this. How many tyc.o.o.ns are there in China? All the business there are restricted by the Chinese government and had to split their profits with the corrupted officials!” Patten starts to talk bad about China again.
“Who told you about these? These are all decades-old information. There are a lot of tyc.o.o.ns in China now. Some of them are even wealthier than the Hong Kong tyc.o.o.ns. Also, China’s development is much faster than in the UK. Just the Chinese market is comparable to several European countries’ markets combined.”
Feng Yu saw Patten is about to say something and he interrupt him. “Mr. Patten, I understand what you want to say. You want me to migrate to the UK, right? I’m sorry, I am not interested!”
After chatting for a while, Feng Yu was irritated by Patten. If he knew this person is so irritating, he would not meet him.
Patten was surprised. After saying so much, Feng Yu was not affected?!
But Patten dare not to get angry with Feng Yu. Although Feng Yu’s status in Hong Kong is not high, Li Zekai is sitting beside him. If the Li Family got angry, he would be in trouble.
Li Zekai started to chat with Feng Yu, ignoring Patten. Patten tried to join their conversation but did not have the opportunity. When he stood up and prepared to leave, Feng Yu and Li Zekai stop chatting.
“Goodbye, Mr. Patten!”
Hmph! It’s your loss not to become a British citizen! You all will regret it!
