90 What’s Strange?
Xiao Jin called Chu Yun into the house.
After recuperating for a period of time, Chu Yun’s body had basically recovered fully. He had been helping out with Tian Mu for the past few days.
“Master, you are looking for me?” After Chu Yun entered the house, he greeted Xiao Jin very respectfully. Although Xiao Jin had already emphasized that there was no need to do this, Chu Yun still could not change his habit. After reminding him twice in vain, Xiao Jin simply let him be.
Chu Yun didn’t greet Su Ying because he still held a grudge against her. Back then, if it weren’t for her, Xiao Jin wouldn’t have been framed and imprisoned. Even though she seemed to have changed into a different person now, he still couldn’t stop himself from rejecting her whenever he saw her face.
However, he could tell that Xiao Jin had slowly accepted Su Ying, so even if he was wary and displeased, he would never tell Xiao Jin.
Xiao Jin could read Chu Yun’s mind, but he was a smart man. As long as Chu Yun knew where to draw the line, Xiao Jin wouldn’t force him.
Xiao Jin took out the dead bug from the fabric pouch and said, “Take a look. Do you recognize this?”
Chu Yun walked up to take a look and frowned deeply.
“This is a venomous bug. Where did you get it from, Master?”
“I found this in the wound on Su Ying’s arm.”
Chu Yun looked at Su Ying in shock. He reached out and took the venomous bug to examine it.
“Master, please give me some time. I need to carefully study the form of this bug in order to ascertain its type and attributes.”
Xiao Jin nodded. “Mm-hmm. Take your time. Let me know when you find something.”
“Yes, Sir. I will take my leave now.”
Chu Yun rushed out of the house anxiously with the venomous bug.
Su Ying was a little puzzled. “How does a scholar like him know about such things?”
Xiao Jin said, “He hailed from the Miracle Healer Valley and only came to my side by chance later on. He has come into contact with these things before.”
Su Ying raised her eyebrows. She didn’t expect the “Miracle Healer Valley” she had randomly made up to exist in reality.
In a stone building in the Tiger Base, a figure placed Deaf Granny’s corpse on the floor of the main hall. “Master, that woman from the earlier incident actually laid her hands on Deaf Granny today!”
The person sitting behind the screen suddenly stopped rotating the walnuts in his hand. “Deaf Granny is dead?”
“Yes. By the time I reached her, she was already dead.”
Pow! The walnuts in his hand were instantly crushed into powder.
“She has some nerve! How dare she touch my subordinates!”
“Master, who do you think that woman is? Did someone send her to investigate us?”
The person behind the screen did not say anything for a long time.
“A mere woman would never dare to barge into the Tiger Base. There must be someone behind her. You can leave first. I will send someone to handle this.”
“Yes, yes. Then Deaf Granny…”
“Take her with you and feed them to my precious babies. Don’t waste it.”
“Yes, Master.”
After the man left the room, the person behind the screen suddenly said, “Go. Find out more about this woman. I want to know what exactly her background is.”
A low voice suddenly rang out from the room, and then a shadow quickly leaped out of the window.
After Su Ying was injured, Xiao Jin and the others steadfastly made her stay in the house 24 hours a day and did not allow her to go anywhere.
She didn’t step out of the house until her wound had completely formed a scab and there was nothing wrong with her body anymore.
Su Ying breathed in the fresh air outside and felt as if she had come back to life.
“Mistress, have you recovered from your injuries?” Wanniang was basking in the sun on the porch with her child in her arms. When she saw Su Ying, she stood up and greeted her.
Su Ying stretched herself for a while and walked to an abandoned wooden stake. She gave it a punch.
Pow! The wooden stake broke at once.
Wanniang was petrified on the spot.
Su Ying rubbed the back of her hand in displeasure. “I’ve only recovered 50 to 60% of my strength.”
Speechless, Wanniang thought, “Just pretend I didn’t ask anything.”
Hea Shouyi milked the goats with the children and then heated the goat’s milk up to make thickened milk for them to drink.
Although their living conditions were limited right now, Hea Shouyi still hoped that the children could eat better.
In the past few days, the main building had been completed. Now, they were building the other side buildings.
Su Ying placed her hands behind her back and walked around the construction site. She only returned to the courtyard after making sure the bandits and mercenaries knew that she was still alive.
Su Ying looked at the sky and wanted to go into the mountains to see if there was anything good. However, she was worried about this family comprising the young and the old. In the end, she decided to take a stool and sit outside the door to enjoy the sun leisurely.
“Mother, Mother, quick! Come and have some thickened goat’s milk. The thickened goat’s milk that Grandpa Hea cooked smells so nice.” The younger toddler Ling happily carried a bowl of thickened goat’s milk to Su Ying and handed it to her as if she was presenting a treasure.
Su Ying took a whiff of the thickened goat’s milk, lowered her head, and swallowed it in one gulp.
“It’s good.”
Ling’s eyes reddened immediately when she saw the bottom of the bowl. As there was a limited amount of goat’s milk that they could get today, the children only had a bowl each. After Su Ying finished Ling’s portion, Ling would not get to drink any.
However, Su Ying didn’t realize what she had done. As if she felt it wasn’t enough, she even asked, “Ling, is there any more?”
Ling pouted and almost cried out loud.
“You said I’m your most beloved baby, but you’ve swallowed my thickened milk in one gulp!” she thought inwardly.
The little one felt aggrieved, but she didn’t say it out loud.
“Little Sister Ling, I can’t finish my thickened goat’s milk. I’ll give you half, okay?” Lin Sheng felt that something was wrong with Ling, so he poured the thickened goat’s milk from his bowl into the bowl in Su Ying’s hand.
Su Ying snapped out of her dazed enjoyment of the milk and realized that her precious one didn’t seem too happy.
“Ling, don’t be sad. Mother will give all of you candy to eat in a while, okay?”
When Ling heard that there was candy to eat, she brightened up instantly. “Okay. Thank you, Mother.”
Su Ying quickly placed the half bowl of thickened goat’s milk offered by Lin Sheng in Ling’s hands. “Drink it quickly. It won’t taste good once it gets cold.”
Ling happily held the bowl that was bigger than her face and gulped the contents down. After drinking, she did not forget to give Lin Sheng a sweet smile. “Thank you, Brother Lin Sheng.”
Su Ying only heaved a sigh of relief when she saw how happy Ling was.
She turned around and was surprised to see Xiao Jin sitting outside the house. He must have been outside for some time now as he was looking at her as if he was watching a show. “You’re s.n.a.t.c.hing the child’s food now.”
Su Ying’s eyes widened. “I just couldn’t control myself.” She had thought that there would be more.
“How embarra.s.sing.”
Su Yu turned around and saw Jiang Yang walking in.
After she came back that day, she told Jiang Yang about that young man who brought in the goods and asked Jiang Yang to keep an eye on him. So now, he was almost always keeping watch in that man’s yard, except when it was necessary for him to go elsewhere.
“Mistress, Master.”
“How is it? Is there any movement from that fellow?”
Jiang Yang nodded. “He left early this morning and avoided people on purpose. I almost lost him, but fortunately, I found him again at an intersection. He went to a house and came out with a handcart. Then he went to that spot to sell his goods. After selling out everything, he returned to his own house straightaway.”
“Did you enter that house?” Su Ying asked.
Jiang Yang nodded. “I did, but there’s something strange inside.”
“Oh? What’s so strange?”
