56 Let Me Help as a Last Resort
When Madam Sun saw Su Ying, she felt her skin go numb. “You… what do you want? Isn’t it bad enough that you’ve caused us so much trouble? Do you want to kill me to silence me? Oh, is there any justice in this world…”
Su Ying frowned impatiently. “Where’s your son?”
Madam Sun suddenly became wary when she heard that. “What do you want to do? My son is dying. What do you want to do to him?”
“If you don’t want him to die, then take me to see him.”
“You… Stop being so hypocritical. I don’t believe that you’re so kind.” Madam Sun’s face was filled with disbelief. She didn’t believe that Su Ying possessed any medical skills that could save people. She only came to ask for food and water. With food and water, even if her son really died, at least she herself would be able to survive.
Su Ying pointed at Xiao Jin’s legs with an icy expression. “If it weren’t for me, these legs would have rotted to the point where only bones are left. You said your son wasn’t going to make it anyway. Instead of idly watching him die, why don’t you let me help as a last resort? Let me take a look at him. Maybe he still has a chance to live.”
Madam Sun still wanted to refuse, but a skinny woman ran over and said, “Grandma, why don’t you let her take a look at Father?”
Although the woman also hated Su Ying, she felt that Su Ying had a point. What if… What if she could save her father?
“Alright. If you can’t cure my son, I’ll fight you to the death,” said Madam Sun through gritted teeth.
Su Ying furrowed her brows but did not say anything eventually. She turned to Xiao Jin and said, “I’ll go take a look.”
Xiao Jin nodded with a frown. “Alright.”
Su Ying followed Madam Sun to a large boulder and saw a woman on her knees sobbing in front of a man.
“How’s Lang’er?” Madam Sun asked the woman as she choked back her tears.
The woman, Madam Zhou, shook her head with red-rimmed eyes, “There’s no response from him when I call out to him.”
Su Ying squatted down in front of w.a.n.g Lang. The moment she got close, she could smell a strong stench. That smell was different from the stinky odor of someone who hadn’t bathed for a long time. It was the stench of rotting flesh.
Su Ying reached out to check his pulse and found that it was extremely weak.
Su Ying took off w.a.n.g Lang’s tattered clothes and found a deep wound on his abdomen. The wound had been treated simply, but not properly. The area around the wound was already rotting. No wonder it smelled so bad.
She carefully examined the other parts of w.a.n.g Lang’s body and found that other than the wound on his abdomen, the rest were all minor superficial wounds.
“This wound must be treated timely, or else he’ll definitely be finished. You guys wait here.” As she spoke, Su Ying got up and returned to the carriage. As soon as she got in, she saw Aunt Zhao and the others coming over, so she told them that she wanted to change her clothes.
Aunt Zhao and the rest stopped in their tracks after they reached the outside of the carriage.
Su Ying entered her interspatial store after she was sure that they wouldn’t get onto the carriage.
That injury was a little more troublesome than Xiao Jin’s earlier injury because the wound was in his abdomen. It was likely his internal organs had already been affected, and it wouldn’t be so easy to treat it.
Su Ying quickly took out everything that she might need. After that, she left the interspatial store and changed into a new set of clothes before jumping off the carriage with her bag.
“How’s Deputy General w.a.n.g?” Xiao Jin asked when he saw Su Ying coming out.
Su Ying furrowed her eyebrows. “His prognosis is not good. There’s a big wound on his abdomen that wasn’t treated in time. His flesh is already rotting, and it’ll be troublesome if his organs start festering too.”
“I’ll go with you to take a look.”
Su Ying nodded and took the bag back to the large boulder. The sky was already completely dark at this point, and there were only a few bonfires and torches to light up the place. It would be terrible if the surgery were to take place under such circ.u.mstances.
“He’s in a terrible condition and needs to be treated as soon as possible. But the conditions outside are too dreadful. There is wind and it’s blowing sand everywhere. If you don’t want him to die, I’ll have people carry him to the carriage.”
“You… you can cure my father?”
Su Ying shook her head. “With such a serious injury, I’m not 100% sure that I can cure him, but I’ll try my best.”
“Madam Sun, you should let Mistress try. Maybe she can cure him.” Jiang Yang had a good relationship with w.a.n.g Lang, so he didn’t feel good either seeing him like this.
When she saw her son in this state, Madam Sun had no other choice. “Okay. I’ll believe you this time.”
Su Ying nodded and asked Aunt Zhao to bring down all the stuff and empty the big carriage. Then, Cheng Ming and Jiang Yang carefully carried Deputy General w.a.n.g into the carriage.
Xiao Jin looked inside the carriage, which was darker than the outside, and frowned. He asked Jiang Yang to light a few more oil lamps.
After they had settled w.a.n.g Lang down, Su Ying jumped into the carriage. “Before I come out, don’t let anyone come in to bother me.”
Xiao Jin nodded. “Alright. I won’t let anyone bother you.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Su Ying let down the curtains and looked at w.a.n.g Lang, who was almost on his dying breath. She thought for a while and decided to take the risk of bringing him into the interspatial store and treating him on the operating table.
She activated the switch and carefully carried the man into the operating room inside the interspatial store.
Under the bright lights in the operating room, the wound on w.a.n.g Lang’s abdomen looked even more hideous.
Su Ying didn’t waste any time. She quickly put on a pair of gloves and cut off his clothes before disinfecting his body.
Su Ying’s brows furrowed even more tightly when the wound was completely exposed. The injury was more serious than she had thought.
She picked up the scalpel and slowly removed the rotting flesh. After removing the rotting flesh that was visible to the naked eye, she pulled the wound open and saw that the spleen had been infected and become diseased. Fortunately, it had not progressed to the point that it needed to be removed. However, it was an extremely complicated and troublesome process to clean up the diseased part thoroughly.
The surgery took longer than everyone expected.
Seeing that the sky was about to brighten but there was still no movement in the carriage, Madam Sun and the others couldn’t help but feel anxious.
“What… What is she doing in there? What is she going to do to my son? I want to go and see him! I want to go and see him!” Madam Sun rushed to the carriage recklessly without any thought.
Jiang Yang quickly stepped forward to stop her when he saw her action. “Madam Sun, since you’ve chosen to believe in Mistress, then believe in her to the end. Mistress would never do anything to hurt Deputy General w.a.n.g.”
However, Madam Sun wouldn’t hear of it and insisted on barging in. “You’re all of the same gang. I will never believe what you say. Let me go in to see my son!”
Jiang Yang had no choice but to let Madam Sun hit and punch him. w.a.n.g Lang was his brother-in-arms so he couldn’t retaliate against w.a.n.g Lang’s mother.
Just as Jiang Yang’s face was about to be scratched to shreds, the curtain of the carriage was suddenly lifted, and Su Ying jumped down from the carriage.
“The treatment is quite successful. That man’s life has probably been saved.”
Madam Sun and the others froze momentarily. Then they hurriedly climbed into the carriage. They saw w.a.n.g Lang lying quietly in the carriage. Although he was still unconscious, the look of death on his face had disappeared. He had really been saved!
Xiao Jin looked at Su Ying’s somewhat tired expression and said in a deep voice, “You go rest in the other carriage.”
Su Ying stretched herself and shook her head. Her eyes swept across everyone’s faces and she realized that one person was missing.
