~ Adventurer's life Day 21 (Sun) Morning ~ Comnes Town – Adventurers Guild – Lobby
After making the request to the guild regarding the potions I made, I collected a bit of information before heading out.
Since potions ranges in different qualities, it takes at least a day for them to confirm the price.
Not getting the money right away is a little inconvenient… but if tomorrows hunt were to go well then it should be fine for now.
… However, gathering information regarding 'Comnes' Great Hero' at the guild isn't going as well as I had hoped.
~ Adventurer's life Day 21 (Sun) Before Noon ~ Comnes Town – Bulbul's Inn – Dining Hall
“Oh, already? You're back? It's unusual for you to even be here at this time.”
“I'm taking a rest on Sunday.”
“You already have enough leeway for even that? I'm jealous. Ahahaha!”
The proprietress for The Bulbul's Inn, aunt Belinda, is pretty well known…
Since every ones out by the afternoon, it's not surprising that I would be the only one in the dining hall.
(… Should I really take a break for today? Or maybe should I test out my skills instead.)
I feel it would be best to take a rest, but giving in to the temptation of wanting to try out my new skills, I had auntie lend me a piece of firewood.
More than anything, I wanted to see that new 'Golem' skill… Right now I already feel that the number of fighting strength I have on now is already more than enough, but I can't shake off the appeal of increasing the numbers even further…
(Speaking of 'Golems', I wonder… would this be limited to just earth and stone?)
… I had that thought in my head, so I tried it out on the price of firewood in front of me.
Snap… pop
(… Oooh!?)
Limbs grew out from the piece of wood as the body slowly then took shape. It took on the typical appearance of a Treant.
It stood and began walking on the table. It's unbelievably surreal.
Observing it, it's way of movement is quite similar to that of the skeletons.
However, because I used the firewood as the catalyst, it's body is quite small.
(It's great how it seems like I don't really need to carve it out in a human shape beforehand.)
I'm just a little disappointed that things would be this easy, but hey, I'm not complaining.
… This size is fine for now, but if I were to create a golem much larger, it'd be hard to carve and make it.
Though then if I really try, I could make into a ma.s.sive project, where I could get others to help construct it for me.
But, lets not get ahead of ourselves here.
(Is the mana consumption for this, much less than making health potions…)
It could be that the cost for health potions is just too big… but then again it's more likely it's because the golem this time is just too small.
Starting at its limbs, it seemed like they were compensated from it's height.
(Seems like it's limited to the size of the catalyst… but then, how big can it get I wonder.)
Well then, let's find out right now…
I left the inn through the back door.
The side behind the inn is quite narrow, but it's empty. The soil here is also exposed.
Here, I placed my hands down and activated the Golem skill onto the soil but…
(No good huh…)
Doesn't seem like anything happened to the soil… back when I used the skill on the firewood, I could feel my mana reacting, but nothing happened here.
I can rule out the possibility that it could be hidden or have a late start up.
There was a stone nearby as well, so I tried the skill on that… but again, no reaction.
(… Since this is the case, then perhaps the skill is only limited to wood…)
In the future, it'd be nice if the skill can move on to the ground and stone when I level up… I mean, wood's not bad but it seems to be weak to fire.
(Well, however large I can make it, I'll test it out tomorrow…)
I ordered the mini treant to go on 'standby' and tossed it into aunties cooking stove…
Adios.
And so, there's this one other interesting skill I've been curious about, 'Bone manipulation', which sounds to be quite straightforward… it seems like it has something to do with uniting bones or shape them in some way.
When I got some pork bones from auntie, I was able to easily join attach them together and deform it.
… I can guess this would be used to create weapons…
Ah! Since there's that bone bonus skill from necromancer, I wonder if it also applies to armor. Can I use for the skeletons?
… I'm quite satisfied with this, I feel that I got a general grasp on my new skills.
After that, I went to the market place to buy some bags for the skeletons to use.
With that, I've done what I had to do for today.
Excluding today's inn fees, I have about 1000 goldas left.
… It's really not as much as it sounds.
~ Adventurer's life Day 22 (Mon) Morning ~ Comnes Town – West Gate
"So, you're adventurers is it… Alright, you're good to go."
We met up by the guild as always and pa.s.sed through the western gate after being permitted.
The area by the west gate consists of Comnes' strongest monsters there, so vigilance is a necessity here.
Especially so for the guards, as the aristocrats residences are situated around here.
Once we crossed over the moat over the bridge, we stood by the other side of the western wall… this is a place where no one would be at aside from adventurers.
"This place has a different atmosphere to it compared to the other areas…"
"Ah, you feel the same way too…"
Until now, we've only been to places like the North and South east side of Comnes, where there would always be at least a handful of the townsfolk doing things there. But here, it's pretty much desolate. All that's left here are abandoned mines and poor soil.
… Then again, excluding adventurers, there really isn't much else to do here.
I took a glance to Benedetta at my side. Her expression looks pretty stiff… seems like she's nervous huh.
"We should be fine with our current state… but if things were to get dangerous then it would be best to escape right away. I'll also manage to escape myself as well."
"Yes. Alright."
Benedetta gave a confident smile on her face, so I gave one back… Realistically, we should be more than enough to handle this area, but the possibility of a dangerous situation is still there.
… Looking around the gravel area, there was a fairly steep slope we can use to look over the surrounding area.
However, the ground is filled with only small stones, along with the very rare trees surrounded in moss. It's much different than the other areas like the gra.s.slands.
Several different sized rocks can be seen scattered across. Some the size of a person, some even the size of a house…
While walking towards the desolate sandbank, I threw out the coins and summoned out all 10 skeletons. The plan is to have six of them armed while the other four would be used as carriers. And in the case of an emergency, those four would also act as decoy.
Besides, if there's ten of us, it should help us deal with sudden ambushes.
… Our first encounter here was a large and somewhat camouflaged spider, a little over 1 meter… I remember it being called a gravel spider. At that thought, it turned over this way.
I've investigated this before so I know this one quite well.
It also appears in the game. It has the habit of digging deep burrows into the ground to build it's nest and it attacks whoever gets too close.
At that the large spider came dashing this way, making some sort of jumping movement with it's eight legs.
I had the skeletons take a stance with it's shield… and at that, the spider jumped right above it and is going to make an attack this way!
… but, it was immediately intercepted by another skeleton.
(… Hold it down.)
Timing it's landing, it used it's shield to keep it on the ground…
It has speed, but it seems like that was compensated from it's strength.
The skeletons focused on taking out the easily breakable legs first making sure it doesn't move, turned it upside down then I made the final blow by stabbing it.
“Gwah! Not again!”
… Benedetta came rushing over this way, thinking something was up, but was a little relieved when noticing the light under my feet… however, right now I'm unable to move, and my face is cramping from the pain.
“Erm… Does that hurt…?”
I can hear her asking a question… but I'm really not able to talk right now…
… At that time, a bush from a little further away, a scaled lizard of about 2 meters in length emerged from it… noticing us, it slowly approached this way…
“…… !!”
In response, Benedetta immediately stood between me and the lizard!
(!! … Wait, hold on!!)
I started to fl.u.s.ter… but just as Benedetta was about halfway there, a group of hastened skeletons already rushed ahead, surrounding it and beating it around like some kind of soccer ball.
Fan Art WarningSorry Nemo, I promise to draw your face properly next time…
…… Once I was finally able to speak, I turned to Benedetta.
“… Please don't do something rash like that again.”
She smiled sheepishly back to me.
“But it was alright in the end, right?”
“…”
Well, she did try to help me out despite her circ.u.mstance. I guess I could consider that commendable.
~ Adventurer's life Day 22 (Mon) Morning ~ Comnes Town – West – Gravel Field
"I'm aware it's a little too late in me asking now, but even when you, the caster, is unable to do anything, your summons still moves. Just how does that work?"
“… Even if you ask me…”
After hunting 2 enemies in the field, me and Benedetta went to dismantling them… I can figure out how to dismantle these, but because it's my first time dealing with these monsters, I take quite a bit of time dismantling…
The one I'm dismantling is the giant lizard. I believe this one was called Great King Yamori.
In actuality, it looked more like a stupidly large gecko with the flat head and large eyes… the only difference would be the alligator looking legs.
The leather on this one is extremely st.u.r.dy, so it's quite a valuable material… It resisted a lot of the skeletons attacks quite well after all.
The meat is also surprisingly delicious.
Benedetta is dealing with dismantling the one called Pebbled Spider. The hard iridescent abdomen is well regarded as a highly valued decorative material.
It seems a little difficult peeling it off.
Once the dismantling was done, we moved on to confirming my stats.
"It was sculptor that levelled up. Right now it's at level 4."
Benedetta used her magic eye to check on it for me.
That said, I've already gave Benedetta the gist of my levelling up 'ability', so she should be able to understand what to do when it happens.
I'm guessing the reason why the 'Sculptor' level had raised was that the skeleton equipment has been strengthened with the 'Engraving' skill, so I still receive experience so long as the skeletons attack using the weapons I engraved.
Thinking that, I've just noticed something.
(My mana had been completely restored…)
I had been using up my mana to keep the skeletons remain summoned up, so I can feel the difference… it's just like how it was in the game.
I don't think I'll be able to have the chance to test this out now, but I'm sure the health also restores.
(That's right!)
Now that 'Sculptor' had been raised up a level, I can test out the golem skill.
Luckily, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of trees, stones and earth from my surroundings.
Taking a deep breath, Benedetta had a question floating above head as she wonders what I'm trying to do.
(… Let's try stone first.)
Since the level got raised, I checked if it reached it… nothing.
(… Then, next is earth.)
Rumble… rumble… !!!
"A tremendous rumble starts shaking from below. The soil starts to build up… and took a shape of what looks like a person.
“!! … A monster!?”
“Ah, Sorry! That guy is something I made with one of my skills.”
Amazed, Benedetta widened her eyes at the sight of it. As for me however, I was even more moved by it.
(… Huge…)
It's size is slightly over 2 meters, but the whole body is so chunky and heavy.
I even tried to push it with four skeletons, but unsurprisingly it didn't even budge.
Heading over this way, Benedetta made a slight complaint.
“That really surprised me…”
“… Sorry”
I guess I could've just warned her beforehand… my bad.
Benedetta moved closer to the Golem with slight caution and gave its body a few taps with her hand.
“This one seems strong… just how did you make it?”
“… I'm not so sure about this one either…”
After that, a Great King Yamori appeared, so I had the golem step on it. It's innards completely bursted out….
…… Seriously, what is this…

TL notes: Forgive me for the t.i.tle, but I really didn't like the original one (though then again, this one ain't any better). The real one was this: 砂礫地で生まれたスゴイ奴 = A great guy born in a sandy place (By google)
: If possible, for only some of the monsters, I'll be keeping their full j.a.panese name if I find it sounds better.
Just remember that Yamori = Gecko
