Chapter 95 - Maybe I Wanted An Excuse To Marry You
He did it again.
In a dimly lit elegant room, in the company of an overly handsome man, all alone in a huge condo, being told those words by that man so close to you; all of those things were enough to burst someone's heart out of their chest. Then who was Chen Yi? She already had weakened heart muscles due to his persistent teasing.
Saying what was in his mind with that G.o.d gifted smoothness, Li Luxian went on opening her laptop. Chen Yi reacted fast, leaping forward, and slamming her laptop shut. "Li Luxian, since you are happy to spend time on me, let's not waste it on stupid a.s.signments." Chen Yi smiled sweetly when Li Luxian looked at her suspiciously. "Oh, right. There had been something I wanted to discuss with you!" Chen Yi suddenly recalled the conversation with Gu Chiantao. It could serve as a perfect topic to distract him. "Could you...pull back your influence from my Aunt's incident?"
Li Luxian raised a brow, curious. "Why so?"
Seeing him finally letting go of her laptop, she internally sighed in relief.
Then she went on explaining to him in detail about Jiang Fu, his relationship with her cousin, and the influence he had over media agencies. Li Luxian listened to her intently. In the end, she summarized the potential threat. "You see, I don't want us discovered." To her surprise, Li Luxian laughed. Chen Yi was taken back when all of sudden, with eyes glimmering in pure amus.e.m.e.nt, he said. "You are really worried that little human would get to me. My little wife, you really underestimate me." Under his eyes, there was obvious arrogance.
"What do you mean?" She knew that Jiang Fu had vast connections. On the other hand, Li Luxian conglomerate, though powerful, dealt with different matters. So when it came to media, she was unsure of his hold over everything. "I just don't want to take the risk."
"With a single call of mine, I can have that Jiang Fu and his little company eradicated." Li Luxian declared bluntly.
Whatever Chen Yi had prepared to say to persuade him to pull back his influence got stuck in her throat. She looked at him with incredulity.
"If you don't believe, we can go for it." Li Luxian said readily and picked up his phone.
"Wait, no," Chen Yi quickly lunged forward to seize his phone. "I believe you, okay?" She knew he was not the one who would make empty claims. Now, a.s.sured that Jiang Fu would not stand a chance, she asked out of curiosity. "But...I thought you did not have any links in the media."
"Of course I would not have any traceable links in media." Li Luxian tapped her forehead playfully. He could not have obvious links. If that happened, he would be only giving an opening to his enemies. "But I do have underground links. You can just say that nothing I don't want can be said or heard."
Chen Yi was deeply astonished. If he was telling the truth then...it looked like...she greatly underestimated her hubby's power.
As they sent time together, he continued to impress her. "Then," Chen Yi said unsurely. "How did w.a.n.g Hualing manage to make such a big fuss about your engagement?" That incident had been what drove her to question his influence in the media.
If he really held such formidable power, how could the w.a.n.g family have suppressed him?
Li Luxian moved his hand through his sleek, silky hair. "That w.a.n.g family is problematic, I admit." He sighed. "They have connections to the outside." Then he laughed. "But, as powerful as they consider themselves to be, they couldn't have made such a big fuss if I had not wanted them to."
"Why would you want them to make a big fuss, to begin with? Wasn't that incident a great inconvenience to you?"
"To have them kick their own legs; to find an excuse to out from that engagement. Simple. And last but not the least," He grasped her chin, bringing her face closer to his with that distinctive smile of his. "Maybe because I simply wanted an excuse to marry you."
Chatting around till late at night, Chen Yi did not know when she had fallen asleep on the very couch, engulfed in a warm embrace. She vaguely remembered being picked up, taken to the bed, and tucked in following a gentle touch of lips over her forehead. After that, she recalled the embrace of a warm hug throughout the night easing her into a comfortable sleep.
In the morning, she found herself alone. Reading the note from Li Luxian, she learned he had to leave early to attend to an urgent matter. He had already arranged for her breakfast and notified the chauffeur to drop her at the University.
Conveniently taking a bath and having a good breakfast, Chen Yi realized how easy her life had become from how it used to be. To have someone rely on was a great feeling. "This is bad. I shouldn't get used to this luxury." She sighed, playing with her food.
With pa.s.sing through that level of intimacy, their relationship was supposed to grow stronger. Li Luxian had already climbed over and conquered the stubborn walls around her heart. If it hadn't been the case, Chen Yi would never have allowed them to do what they did this yesterday morning.
Though she would never say it aloud, Chen Yi had admitted in her heart, that...he might be the one...the only one...she would want to spend the rest of her life with.
However, as their relationship grew, so did the insecurities in her heart.
There was a subtle uncertainty looming over her heart. A tiny annoying voice at the back of her head that told her people doesn't stay the same forever. They change. If she became too comfortable, the pain she would have to endure when all of this is stripped away would be unimaginable.
On the next step, she wanted to depend on him completely. But that tiny voice kept nagging her.
And to overcome that insecurity was something she needed to do.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she received a message from an unknown number. She glanced away from her plate to find the name of an agent from the 'Fu' Entertainment asking her for a meetup. Traces of a smile emerged at the corner of her lips.
Just as she had expected; it didn't take them long.
She knew how her cousin Chen Ying's mind worked. Looked like her speculations proved right.. Later that day, after attending her cla.s.ses, she went to the place emailed to her by that agent.
