Chapter 89 - Kiss An An Apology

"Why would you say that?" Forming a layer of indifference on her face, Chen Yi said.

For some time, Li Luxian searched her eyes. Then, the corner of his lips curled up. "In front of my family when w.a.n.g Hualing had come at you, the way you had blocked her attack was not ordinary. Don't you think?"

All of sudden, Chen Yi felt cold in her bones. Her husband... He was so incisive! Just how was she supposed to hide anything from him?

"When I was little, my mother had me attend a self-defense academy once. The elder of the academy was known for his ancient martial art techniques. He taught me a couple of his moves. That's all!" Chen Yi shrugged off his suspicion.

All the while, Li Luxian kept his eyes intently on her face. For a moment, Chen Yi felt that he could see past her lie. Hurriedly, breaking eye contact with him, she said. "Let's go, okay? I am already late!"

She had just turned when she heard Li Luxian voice at her back. "Then... what do you have to say about that gun you had in your possession without a serial number?

Chen Yi paused in her steps; likewise, her smile dropped.

"Where had you been after your family had forced you out of your home?" Another question followed.

At this point, Chen Yi's face had turned pretty much cold. Then, she spoke. "Mr. Li, we should leave." With that said, she made her way out not looking back even to see if Li Luxian followed her or not.

After she was gone, silence invaded the surroundings. A trace of helplessness emerged in Li Luxian heart. He had tried all his means; Zhang Xin had pulled his hair day and night while trying to unravel his Boss mysterious wife. But, still, they got to nowhere.

It was noteworthy that 'Li' family power was a force to be reckoned. What was it that Chen Yi hid in her past that was so mysterious that they were unable to get a wisp of it?

Li Luxian eyes flashed with a subtle hint of resolve. "You can hide from me for now but you can't hide from me forever."

The drive to the University was smooth. Li Luxian didn't say anything about her past again and Chen Yi pretended that their conversation never happened to begin with. The atmosphere was harmonious. Li Luxian had brought his laptop and all the while, he reviewed some files while they casually exchanged some words. 

When they arrived at the university gate, Chen Yi climbed out of the car. Getting towards the other side of the car, she tapped on Li Luxian side. He slid down the gla.s.s with curiosity. It was then, Chen Yi leaned in and planted a sweet, small kiss on his cheek.

'Li Luxian, let it be an apology for hiding things from you.'

Li Luxian was stunned. But before he could react, she had already sprinted away, leaving him alone with a tingling sensation on his cheek.

After getting inside, she breathed in the fresh air of the greenery. Finding the familiar surroundings around her, Chen Yi had mixed feelings.

The University was rather a high key and it hosted all the elites in the city. Thus, Chen Ying and her rich friends had attended this University. Chen Yi's grandfather had also admitted her into this university despite her aunt's relentless attempts to stop that from happening.

But because, a few years ago, Chen Yi was just another naive girl, she had been hara.s.sed in the University on countless occasions by Chen Ying plots.

Thus, a lot of negative memories were a.s.sociated with this place...

All the time, if she had been a little wiser...

After being kicked out of the family, of course, no one was going to pay the University's enormous fees. She expected she would never be able to attend the University and complete her education again. However, after signing the contract with Li Luxian, she had enough credits to pay the fees.

Anyway, it was her last semester. She wanted to get done with things and start her career. With that thought in her mind, she decided to move forward. 

The day ended faster than Chen Yi could have expected.

She gathered her progress files. She had to sigh in dejection that because of missing for the last couple of months, she would have to attend each and every lecture to complete the credit hours or...she will have to repeat the semester. 

That...she was not going to do.

She already had a lot to do on her way. Wasting another year at the University would be the last thing she wanted to do. 

Getting out, her eyes fell upon a similar figure. Chen Yi paused, before stepping forward with a smile to greet her. But as she neared, she observed that at the hidden corner of the tree, there was yet another figure who stood by that person's side.

Chen Yi, once again, stopped in her tracks with a small frown to get a better grasp of the situation.

"I'm asking you Jiang Li, where were you last night. Why did you not answer my calls?"

The man glanced at the woman with a hint of annoyance. "Who are you to ask me where I was?" 

Probably his tone irked the woman. She seethed. "Jiang Li!" Taking in a deep breath, she calmed her nerves. Their drama had already gathered people's attention. She did not want to make a scene. "You are asking who am I to ask you? Let me tell you Jiang Li. I am your fiancee."

"Oh please!" The man rolled her eyes in utter annoyance. "Our engagement had been decided by elders. Some as possessive and clingy as you, I can't even endure the presence of you. How can you expect me to spend my life with you?"

Gu Chiantao felt a surge of fresh pain a.s.saulting her heart.

That was not what he used to say a couple of years back. When at that time, he had yet to meet Chen Ying...

Gu Chinatao felt her eyes moistening at those memories. But, she blinked back the tears. 

However, the man before her couldn't be bothered to waste his pity at the state of the woman before her. Instead, he laughed heartlessly. "Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror? How could you imagine I would ever have any feelings for you?"
