Eventually gravity and pressure eased as well as the darkness. Darick cursed profanely when he slammed to the spongy ground, fortunately, on his backside.
"Darick." Luca groaned his sponsors name as he crawled to him.

"Good thing the ground's soft," Darick said when he felt his strength and control over his body return.
He began to fuss over Luca, who rea.s.sured him he was alright. He stopped his fussing. They helped each other stand.
Their concerns for each other moved to the strange environment they were in. They realized they were in a cavern of sorts. Subdued red light came from the pulsating sigil markings etched into the stone walls. The markings were of an alien language. The spongy ground was overgrown yellow lichen, which blanketed the moist grey stone.
"Darick!" Luca yelped as he involuntarily stumbled back down to the ground. He punched the lichen, frustrated by his weakness. He wasn't looking cool for his sponsor right now.
Darick sighed and sat down next to him. "Luca. Do you realize, I'm the happiest man in the world right now?"
"Why? I have to rely on your lùth to move." Luca sighed.
"That's why I'm happy." Darick smiled and drew Luca into a pa.s.sionate kiss to resupply his energy.
Luca pressed for more, his hands feeling around the buckles of Darick's tunic to undo them and gain entry to his chest.
"Shameless Staarkind. You still have time for kinky play even at the height of danger."
Both men paused at a woman's cynical scolding directed to them.
"Sierrli?" Luca hastily pulled away from Darick's kiss.
He felt energetic to greet his favourite sister (from another mister and misses) Seriph.
Sierra stepped into the shady red light, so they could see her stoic expression and folded arms over her shabby tunic.
"Sierrli!" Luca slammed her to the ground with a warm hug.
"Get off me you big foolish dog!" Sierra grumbled, but deep down she was just as happy to see Luca.
Her happiness subsided at the glaring from Luca's lover who was likely his bound sponsor now.
"I'm not getting it on with your woman, Lord Darick, so you can put away that glaring look." She sighed, breaking free from Luca's hug.
"Lady Sierra Alaeg de Seriph." Darick soberly greeted her with a deep frown. "What are you doing here?"
"Back at you." Sierra coolly answered.
Darick explained their reasons for their location at the same time calculating her reasons for being where they were. The fact that she wasn't in a cell for their rescuing made him wonder on the damage and trouble The Glan was facing.
"Well, the Lochlea women and children should have arrived at the gates of the Greater Northern Strongholds by now. Only Hannah, myself and Lilia were captured to ensure the others' escape."
She grumbled again when Luca squeezed her sides with another hug. Darick swiftly reclaimed Luca with a hard yank to his side.
"Sorry." Luca cooed into Darick's ear and sealed his apologize with a tender kiss to the man's stubbly cheek.
"Ahem." Sierra coughed.
"Lord Darick!" Hannah excitedly said her fellow Lochlean's name.
"Where's Lord Corin?" Her next words flew from her mouth with hopeful thinking he was behind him.
"We were separated, but I'm sure he's not too far." Darick cordially rea.s.sured her.
"Gah. You women leave me behind to fight off those calleak like some dispensable side character! Shameless women!" Lilila huffed and grumbled when she entered the cavern, and groaned when she saw Darick.
Noise and sense of urgency drew everybody's attention to the tunnel at Darick and Luca's back.
"RUN!" Corin's deep voice bellowed with warning.
Sporadic orange and white-blue fire exploded behind Corin and Azaria's hard sprints for them.
An ear-piercing shriek shook the cavern walls, making the sigils pulsate with intense red light.
Everybody readied their weapons of choice when the heads of scorpi entered their view, carrying the unmistaken stench of sulfur into the cavern.
