Chapter 1247: Chapter 1247: Worried Sick
“You’re late,” Zhou Hengguang lifted his wrist to check the time. “It shouldn’t take this long to hand things over to Zou Yi. Just give him the doc.u.ments, he can read them himself.”
Ji Fang: “…I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.” If a.s.sistant Zou hadn’t kept lecturing him, he wouldn’t have been late.
“Hurry up, drive the car in, and switch to this new one.”
“Oh! Sure.”
First, Ji Fang moved the Range Rover that was blocking the gate, then he drove his own sedan into the yard, locked the door, and turned around to find that Zhou Hengguang had already sat in the pa.s.senger seat, leaning against the backrest with his eyes closed, resting. His sculptural, distinct facial features and pale, fair skin looked a bit pallid.
His thick lashes cast a small shadow under his eyelids, giving Zhou Hengguang a fragile beauty.
Ever since his previous illness, Zhou Hengguang had been in poor condition. The persistent low-grade fever had lasted too long, robbing him of much of the vitality he had when he first returned from the Capital.
Ji Fang had not expected such a strong deputy director to recover so slowly from an illness.
It was slow enough to make him, the secretary, anxious.
No wonder Zhou Jihuai called Zou Yi back.
Zhou Hengguang’s current physical condition simply couldn’t handle the high-intensity work tasks. It had always been like this since he was young; each illness took at least half a year to recover fully, and that was with proper care.
If he didn’t recuperate well, recovery would be even slower and his physical fitness would degrade. The Zhou family knew this; otherwise, Zhou Jihuai wouldn’t interfere, and the usually demanding Zhou Hengguang wouldn’t make covert moves either.
It was all in the hopes of improving his brother’s mood.
It truly was a heart-wrenching concern.
Especially since Zhou Hengguang had always been exceptionally energetic, out of the ordinary. Despite a month-long low-grade fever, he still managed to work as usual, perform on-site inspections, and consistently got only four hours of sleep a night.
Those unfamiliar with him would never notice.
Zou Yi indeed needed to come back. Even if Zhou Jihuai hadn’t done it, Zhou Hengguang or someone else in the Zhou family would have likely taken the same action.
Ji Fang didn’t dare disturb the deputy director and drove smoothly to the Su family’s home.
By the time they arrived, Su Qing and her two sisters had already packed their luggage and were waiting at the door. All three sisters were each pushing a suitcase. Ji Fang immediately got out of the car to open the trunk, wanting to help them, but Zhou Hengyang had already stepped forward and loaded the suitcases on board.
Ji Fang could only give a sheepish smile.
“Thank you,” Su Qing smiled at Ji Fang. Suddenly, she felt an intense gaze fixed on her, making her uncomfortable. She knew the person must be the jerk sitting in the car who hadn’t gotten out.
Su Qing pursed her lips, trying desperately to ignore it, but found it impossible.
“Second Sister? What’s wrong?” Su Xue noticed her sister’s unusual behavior and asked softly.
“I’m fine.”
Zhou Hengyang helped the three sisters open the car door to the back. “Okay, get in. Be careful on the road. Have you brought enough to eat and drink? Don’t go hungry on the way.”
“Thank you, brother-in-law,” Su Xiu gave Zhou Hengyang a sweet smile.
“No need for pleasantries,” Zhou Hengyang glanced at the front pa.s.senger seat but didn’t bother with small talk.
After bidding farewell to Zhou Hengyang, the car started, and although the three sisters were riding in the back, the car was s.p.a.cious and not cramped. Once on the road, the sisters each remained silent; Su Xiu was daydreaming, while Su Xue surveyed everything with a scrutinizing look.
They had already met Ji Fang at the door, but the brother-in-law’s brother had stayed in the car the whole time without getting out or saying a word.
