Yoona almost jumped in joy. The delivery came exactly at six, as expected of such a high-cla.s.s place. A large smile took over her face as she let out a giggle.
Minhyun watched her with the corner of his eye, the corners of his lips raising slightly, before walking towards the door.
He was greeted by a man in a waiter suit. Minhyun nodded in acknowledgment, pressing a b.u.t.ton to keep the door open.
The food was moved using a fancy cart and the waiter carefully took out each plate one by one, carrying them on his arms.
Minhyun led the waiter into the apartment to the dinner table.
Curiously, Yoona stood up from the couch to the kitchen to see what Minhyun had ordered. The smell was very familiar, but she couldn't pinpoint what. However, what she saw made her almost drop her jaw.
She never expected to see Korean barbecue on the table.
Since Minhyun had ordered the food from the building, she expected for it to be some high-cla.s.s European food or something along that way. After all that waiting and money, she thought that the food would be very fancy.
However, the dishes were very common, something she could've ordered over the phone.
She let out happy laughter. The aura around her brightening immensely.
No matter how much money and time was placed into those rich dishes, nothing could compare to the simplicity of bulgogi [marinated meat] and spicy barbecued pork alongside vegetables and ssamjang (spicy sauce). Just the smell made her mouth water.
This was a great surprise.
Unexpected. But a ten out of ten.
From what she could tell, Minhyun didn't pick out of random. This wasn't the type of dish he would order due to his own tastes. He was not well versed with common Korean foods, so there was no way he could've. Even the sukhoe that they ate at the beach was similar to sashimi from the j.a.panese culture.
For him to request such foods, especially from the cla.s.sy restaurant downstairs, was due to her. He put her wants into consideration and acted upon it.
Forgetting about her plan on finding out whether or not Minhyun liked her, she solely focused on the fact that he was a f.u.c.king great person.
Because d.a.m.n. She was very happy.
"You didn't," she said as she ran to the table. "I'm so happy! Let's eat quickly!"
The reaction was better than what he antic.i.p.ated. Minhyun nodded before gesturing for the server to leave. Then he walked towards the table to sit in front of Yoona.
"Your favorites right?"
Yoona nodded. "Of course. How did you know?"
There was a pause. "Let's just say I had a feeling."
She c.o.c.ked her head. "A feeling?"
What was he talking about? How can you tell someone's favorite dish from a feeling?
Minhyun avoided her gaze and picked up his chopsticks. "Lucky guess. You're a predictable girl."
Then he looked up with a smile. "Let's way shall we?"
Strange. Very strange. But Yoona decided to go with the flow considering that the food in front of her was waiting to be eaten. She couldn't let the beautiful meat in front of her cool down.
"Whatever. I'm hungry."
First she put a piece of spicy meat inside her mouth, letting the contents melt on top of her tongue. She let out a happy sigh as the wonderful taste encapsulated her taste buds before diving for more.
The wait was worth it. The meat in front of her was the best she's ever tasted. As expected from expensive chefs.
Then, by routine, she put a piece of lettuce on her hand ready to make a ssam. She proceeded to place some rice, mushrooms, meat, and ssamjang on top. As the final step, she wrapped everything up like a green package before placing it in her mouth.
All the flavors harmonized into a wonderful goodness and she couldn't help but squeal.
With amus.e.m.e.nt sparkling in his eyes, Minhyun watched the girl in front of him indulge in food.
"Is it that good?"
She glanced over at him. "You haven't tasted it yet? Hurry up and eat, it's fantastic!"
He glanced over all the unfamiliar foods. Since he had grown up with chefs for his food and in New York for the rest of his youth and adult career, he hadn't really experienced the korean food life.
But after seeing her eat so eagerly, he couldn't help but feel excited to eat too.
However, considering their past ramen incident, he wondered if their tastes would clash again.
He picked up the meat and carefully placed it in his mouth, chewing slowly.
It was... Quite good. He was happily surprised.
"Is it your first time eating this?" Yoona asked.
"Yes. I've never had the chance to eat Korean food often."
Seeing that Minhyun was new to this world, yet again, she felt obligated to help him. Just like before, she created another ssam in her hand.
After she put everything in the lettuce, she stood up from her seat and made her way to Minhyun.
"This is my treat for you. Open your mouth."
Minhyun let out a nervous laugh, eyeing the food in front of him. The size of the ssam was a bit too... Big. He wasn't sure if he could fit it all in.
He opened his mouth slightly.
"Bigger," she urged.
He complied with her words.
Not before long, she shoved everything in his mouth, and he found himself trying to chew.
Although it was a mouthful, the taste was amazing. Plus, since Yoona specifically made it for him, the experience was all the more savoring for Minhyun.
Yoona sent him a thumbs up. "Good?"
He mirrored her. "Good."
At first, when he rushed into the building, he was worried about Yoona's happiness. Since he did not have experience healing people, he was nervous that today was not going to go well. However, seeing her happily smiling and laughing in front of him as if nothing had happened, made him realize that his worries were unnecessary.
Yoona looked the most beautiful when she was smiling. He was glad to have helped her keep that smile alive.
He should buy her food and snacks more often.
