Paulus got a call from Headquarters asking to support Hiro off the tip of South America. Shadow said she would continue the search in the hovercraft they picked up. Lucy begged the other two to cover for her and allow her to leave with Shadow. Aarav knew how vital it was, so he helped convince Paulus.
"Alright, if you two find anything notify us right away," Paulus said looking sternly at the two. The only reason he was comfortable with leaving Lucy is they all came to trust Shadow more, and her strength spoke for itself.
The four of them said their goodbyes. Aarav and Paulus took off to the south to help Hiro.
Flying over the rain forest, Aarav said, "Paulus, I'm picking a large beast running towards us below."
Paulus looked below and didn't see anything. Out of nowhere a sizeable purple beast appeared before them and slashed at their airship.
"Paulus watch out it teleported!"
Paulus flew right as quickly as possible, but the left side of the ship was damaged. The creature fell to the ground and released a horrible screech that was heard for miles.
"Aarav, do you have any idea what that was?"
"No idea. The system didn't have any information on it either."
Paulus paused for a second and then recollected himself. They were still on a mission and needed to make it Hiro. "How is the hull of the craft?"
"We can manage. I don't know if we will be able to make a return trip." Aarav started to worry. He didn't want to lose Lucy like Leo.
"Let's focus on our mission. What is Hiro's status?"
"The ship, Hope, was attacked by some underwater beast that uses lightning element. Over two-thousand of them attacked and fried her system. She is running solely off Hiro's mana. Most of the crew were killed. The ship is surrounded."
Paulus was stunned. This horde of beasts was something they had never seen. Having us arrive only means they plan to have us evacuate the survivors.
The two of them kept flying until they reached the ocean. Arrav had Paulus land to do some repairs while he guarded the ship. Aarav impressed everyone in the Renegades. Not only was he a powerful Water Elementalist, but he was also an intelligent person. He learned basic engineering quickly, how to fly, and weapon schematics.
Aarav owed the Renegades everything and promised he would do everything he could for them.
"Alright, the hull repaired. Paulus lets go get our people."
Paulus nodded, and they got into the craft and flew across the water. After operating a bit, they came upon the floating boat, Hope.
"I think I see Hiro on the top deck," Paulus said. "He is waving at us."
"Paulus incoming!"
A ma.s.sive lighting blast exiting the ocean and flew at the aircraft. The large explosion was inescapable and struck the craft. The entire ship was damaged, and all the electronics were dead.
"We are falling. Brace yourself." The ship fell out of the sky and plunged into the ocean. The repair job on the hull was reopened, and water started to pour in.
Controlling mana, Aarav tried to keep the water from entering the ship. He looked over at Paulus who took a hit on the head. "Are you, ok?"
"I think I will be fine, but we are sinking at a rapid rate."
Paulus got out the pilot seat and looked around. He walked to the back of the ship and came back to Aarav. "If we open the back hatch, I think we can escape."
"If we do that, the place will start to flood quickly."
"I know."
Paulus ran to the back of the ship and yelled, "Ready."
Aarav stopped holding back the water and ran to the back of the ship. With water entering quickly the vessel started to flood faster. By the time Aarav made it the end of the ship over ninety percent of the air was gone.
They both nodded at each other and Paulus destroyed the hatch with an attack. Quickly acting Aarav erected a water barrier to trap all the air in a bubble on both of their heads. The two of them swam out of the ship.
They got out in time to see the ship sink further and further. They looked up, and they were close to the surface.
Hiro on the ship was worried. He tried to warn them, but he never learned to send mana, and all electronics were dead. Hiro slammed his fist down on the railing. If he jumped into the water, the creatures would swarm him, and he would die.
Hiro saw all the creatures illuminate and swim towards his comrades. "Nooo! I can't lose any more people."
Paulus and Aarav started to swim to the surface when the ocean in front of them lit up. Hundreds of fluorescent gelatinous creatures were coming their way. Lightning began to dance between them.
Aarav grabbed hold of Paulus' arm and created a water attack that propelled them out of the water like a rocket. The two them were launched into the air.
This only made them a target to the jelly-like monsters. They launched another lightning attack except for this time they didn't have a ship to take the brunt of the attack.
"a.s.segai of Darkness." Paulus threw a giant dark mana spear to collide with the attack. The lightning ripped through his spear disintegrating it. A second lightning blast hit the jellyfish's attack. This caused the attack to redirect and overpower the weaker attack.
The rebound attack struck Hiro and flung him into the metal cabin behind him. Hiro was knocked unconscious.
Aarav and Paulus tired and short on mana landed back into the ocean. Paulus didn't know why the attack redirected, but he had no time to think. The smack of jellyfish was charging for another attack.
