She had a choice between spaghetti and burgers.
Alex chose the spaghetti. She also grabbed a plate of grapes and a bottle of water.
When she sat at her usual table, she immediately took out her planner and wrote the to-do list she made earlier but she was still unsure of a few things.
Logan easily found Alex after he paid for his plate of burger and fries. After a few steps, he stopped. He was unsure if he should approach Alex or not. They left on bad terms. Again. Logan sighed. He didn't know why but things just seem to end that way. Maybe he shouldn't have insisted on his terms. After the argument, he realized they were actually ridiculous and inconvenient.
Maybe he should try again. If things become better, he may not need Xandra's help after all and return the phone to Alex.
With his determination restored, Logan walked over to Alex's table. His new best friend was scrutinizing at something inside his notebook. He sc.r.a.pped the chair loudly but Alex didn't budge. Logan opened his mouth but Alex's eyes from earlier appeared in his mind. He figured it was better to leave him alone for the time being. Once Alex was done then, he can talk to him. Logan hung his head low and took a few bites of his burger.
Alex was stuck. The Romeo and Juliet project was due Monday. It was Tuesday. She wasn't sure if there was enough time to get it done. New projects were given out in Math and Chemistry. Both take up a lot of time.
It looked like her weekend was fully booked but she needed some time allowance in case a project would take longer than she expected.
Her stomach grumbled. She couldn't believe she almost forgot about lunch. Alex set aside her notebook and focused on her lunch tray. She scooped a forkful of spaghetti and ate it. She chewed it softly. Cafeteria food had never failed her. Whoever was in charge of the menu had good taste.
She lifted her legs up to rest her feet at the chair on the opposite side of the table like she always did. Where she expected to find the seat, she hit something else instead.
Alex squealed.
She tilted her head up, eyes wide. Seated before her was none other than Logan Parker.
Logan felt something poke his knees. He checked under the table and saw a pair of sneakers hanging in midair before they landed on the floor. When he turned his head back up, he met Alex's stare.
Slowly, he watched those gray eyes darken.
"What are you doing here?" Alex grumbled. It seemed that her cold demeanor earlier was ineffective. If it weren't for the project, she wouldn't even continue speaking to him. She'd honestly would rather forget about the phone... but since Xandra was supposed to be her sister, it would be unrealistic to do so. If she noticed early on that Logan hadn't returned it, she wouldn't be in this mess. She meant to have Xandra and Logan zero ties after that one time.
"h.e.l.lo to you too, Romeo" Logan placed down his burger on the plate, "I know we had our arguments but I'm really serious about being friends"
"What if I don't want to be friends? Did you think of that?"
Logan was silent. He didn't understand what was wrong. Why was a person so adamant on pushing people away? Suddenly, he wasn't so sure if he had the patience for what he signed up for, "I—"
Alex didn't wait for Logan to answer. He brought his attention back on the spaghetti in front of him. Dejected, Logan stared at the table. He had no right to question Alex's decisions when he hadn't figured out his own intentions.
Why did he want to be friends?
