Chapter 834: The Smell of Death
Zheng Ren had seen the entire route map of the subway in Imperial Capital once, so he knew what to do.
After Xie Yiren chose the square bridge, Zheng Ren planned the route almost at the same time. It was the most logical way to go. There was almost no redundant process.
Not far away, the little boy’s mother was panicking as she dealt with the railway police. Zheng Ren had already guessed the final outcome of this matter. He only hoped that the little boy’s mother could do better in the future.
The subway arrived. Zheng Ren held little Yiren’s hand as they walked up.
At this time of the day, there were neither a lot nor few people. It could not be compared to the morning and evening rush hour. Although there were not many people, there were no seats either.
Zheng Ren pulled Little Yiren to a corner to prevent the crowd from b.u.mping into Little Yiren. The two of them chatted and laughed as they looked at the flashing advertis.e.m.e.nts outside the window. They came all the way to the square bridge.
“There’s a Happy Valley here. Zheng Ren, have you been there before?” Xie Yiren asked after getting off the subway.
“No.”
“Let’s go in and have a look. I rarely play,” Xie Yiren said. “Actually, the fireworks at night at Disney in Sorcery Capital are a little better. I wonder if there’s a fireworks show in the Happy Valley.”
Going to the Happy Valley? Zheng Ren did not care. It did not matter where they were.
Following the signs, he walked out of the subway station and bought a ticket to enter.
There were very few people entering in the afternoon. After all, they came early in the morning to play, so they could make time for few more events. Entering in the afternoon was very amusing.
It was Zheng Ren’s first time at the amus.e.m.e.nt park. In the past, even when he had money to spare, he did not have this time.
All kinds of huge amus.e.m.e.nt facilities and people looking for excitement and screaming made Zheng Ren feel like he had entered another world.
In Zheng Ren’s eyes, these thrilling activities were completely meaningless.
“When I was a child, I went to Disneyland in Tokyo and got on a roller coaster. It was really exciting!” Xie Yiren held Zheng Ren’s hand and said whatever came to her mind. It was sweet and leisurely. There was no pressure at all.
This feeling was especially good. It was so good that Zheng Ren and Xie Yiren did not realize it.
“Roller coaster? Is it that one over there?” Zheng Ren saw a roller coaster flying at a strange angle. The screams from the roller coaster came from afar. He did not need to sit on it to feel the terror brought by the high-speed rotation.
“Yes.”
“The Grim Reaper was shot here. Have you seen it?” Zheng Ren asked.
“Is that the episode where the roller coaster crashed? I’ve seen it. After watching it, it stayed in my mind. It’s now even more exciting,” Xie Yiren said as she looked at the speeding roller coaster.
“…” Zheng Ren did not understand Little Yiren’s thoughts at this time.
He looked at the roller coaster from afar and felt that his feet were a little soft. What could he do if he fell?
Zheng Ren had never experienced such a situation.
Even at his first time undergoing surgery, his first emergency treatment, his first time being the chief surgeon, and his first time… Even at the front line of earthquake relief, the aftershocks beneath his feet were incessant, and he was in danger of dying at any time. Zheng Ren had never felt his feet that soft before.
But this time…
It was really freaking scary. Just thinking about it was unbearable.
He should say something. It might be better to distract his attention. What if his legs went soft and he pees his pants in fear?
“On the roller coaster, you have to sit at the front,” Zheng Ren said. “Because when you climb to the top, there is a process of slowly descending.
“The people in front feel that the speed of descent is very slow, but when the last person reaches the top, they will descend at the acceleration of gravity, so the people behind will have a greater sense of weightlessness and stimulation.” Zheng Ren watched the roller coaster roll all the way. As he listened to the continuous screams, the hand holding Little Yiren was slightly moist. He subconsciously flipped through the fragments about roller coasters in his mind and explained it to Little Yiren.
“Ha, you’re scared.” Little Yiren jumped up like an elf and touched Zheng Ren’s head with her other hand. She smiled and said, “The best surgeon is actually afraid of riding a roller coaster.”
“Uh…” Zheng Ren was silent.
“Then I’ll go. Can you wait for me for a while?” Xie Yiren said with a smile.
It was so dangerous. Should he let Little Yiren do it herself? Zheng Ren’s desire to protect her suddenly burned like a flame.
“Let’s sit together. I’m not that scared.” Zheng Ren pretended to be calm. He said with a smile, “Sit in the front. It’ll be better this way.”
“Are you sure?” Xie Yiren looked at Zheng Ren with a strange look and asked.
“I’m sure.” Zheng Ren said with some regret.
A lot of these pieces of knowledge were imaginary. It was pure theory. People would not believe him if he wrote something on the Internet.
Could he be the fool that was cheated?
But that was not important. He could not stand down there and watch Xie Yiren ride such a ‘dangerous’ roller coaster.
He had to do it even if he did not want to. Zheng Ren was a little distressed. If he had known earlier, he would have found a café with Little Yiren and sat down for coffee and a chat.
He queued up.
Although it was not a day off, and it was already afternoon, he still queued for nearly an hour before it was their turn.
During this hour, Zheng Ren had done countless mental struggles.
The scene from Grim Reaper played repeatedly in his mind, and he could not get rid of it. As a result, a few calls came in, but Zheng Ren was absent-minded when he answered them.
They were all calls from people who had watched the live broadcast of the TIPS surgery. Although they were famous experts and professors from all over the country, Zheng Ren did not have the time to be polite at the moment.
Xie Yiren became more and more cheerful as she pulled Zheng Ren onto the roller coaster.
When they were looking for a seat, Xie Yiren asked again. Zheng Ren nodded and felt that it was better to sit at the front.
But when the roller coaster started, Zheng Ren found the problem.
The theory was not wrong, but that was only part of it.
Sitting at the front, his eyes saw an blank s.p.a.ce. Whether it was climbing or descending, or the wind blowing past his ears at a high speed, Zheng Ren was the first person to feel it.
If he was looking for excitement, he would definitely choose the first row.
However, Zheng Ren was not looking for excitement. He wanted to reduce the intensity of the excitement by half…
It was better not to see these pieces of knowledge. Zheng Ren regretted it, and his sadness flowed like a river.
He had no choice but to close his eyes and grab the seat with both hands. Zheng Ren had imagined countless times in his mind what position he would grab to have a chance of survival once he was thrown out. He also had to grab Little Yiren at the last moment… This was an impossible task.
Zheng Ren’s eyes were tightly shut. He did not dare to look at the spinning scene around him.
Einstein’s theory of relativity displayed its power at this moment. A few minutes pa.s.sed quickly as he watched the roller coaster from below.
But when Zheng Ren sat on it himself, it was completely different.
Time seemed to never stop. The whistling wind by his ears was so cold, as if he had been thrown out.
To Zheng Ren, this was a f*cking life or death challenge. During this time, he even smelled the scent of death.
It was really…
Too scary.
