Chapter 449: The Champion of the Operating Theatre
However, Gao Shaojie did not seem to notice that Zheng Ren had returned. His eyes were fixed on the screen. His face was so serious, it looked like he was in the emergency department.
w.a.n.g Qiang was dumbfounded. He stood behind Gao Shaojie. He looked at the professor through the anti-radiation lead-lined gla.s.s in a daze. No one knew what he was thinking about.
“I was done in ten minutes. It isn’t that hard,” Zheng Ren said with a smile. “Department Chief Sun, I won’t nag you about how the treatment should be when we get back.”
“No, it’s fine,” Department Chief Sun said with a smile.
Although he felt that Zheng Ren’s surgery was particularly fast, he did not understand TIPS surgery at all. It had just been wrapped up quickly. It was not a big deal.
There was no difference if one did an appendicitis every three minutes or thirty. It was just a number.
Therefore, he and Zheng Ren were chatting and laughing.
“I’ll go to the emergency department to see if there’s anyone to replace Chief Physician Pan. You can just monitor the situation here in the meantime,” Zheng Ren said and walked out.
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep everything in check,” Department Chief Sun said. “What happened to Chief Physician Pan?”
“It’s the emergency department. Two doctors were knocked down by the flu,” Zheng Ren said as he walked. “They said that they had doctors from the Internal Medicine Department to support them but who knows?”
“Go, go, go. Chief Physician Pan is almost seventy years old. It’ll be terrible if he becomes exhausted,” Department Chief Sun said.
“Three days after the surgery, remind me to do the second-stage surgery and take out the recyclable stent,” Zheng Ren told him as he disappeared at the end of the corridor.
This kid was in a hurry. He did not know whether the TIPS surgery was a success or not.
After Zheng Ren disappeared without a trace, Department Department Chief Sun glanced at the people in the emergency ward. After that, he moved closer to Gao Shaojie and whispered, “Teacher Gao?”
Gao Shaojie was deep in thought and did not answer.
Department Chief Sun was a little helpless. He touched Gao Shaojie’s arm. “Excuse me, Teacher Gao?”
“Yes? What’s wrong?” Gao Shaojie woke up from his daze and was a little unhappy.
“Could I trouble you to ask if Chief Zheng’s surgery was successful? As you know, I’m not well-versed in this kind of surgery,” Department Chief Sun asked in a humble manner.
“A success?” Gao Shaojie sighed.
“Did he fail?” Department Chief Sun’s heart jumped.
This was not the time to be angry with Zheng Ren. Besides, he did not want to compete with Zheng Ren for victory.
The surgery must not be a failure. His cla.s.smates were here. If he failed, how would he explain it to them…
“In what way did it look like he failed?” Gao Shaojie was especially unhappy, his voice rising a few notches. “It was a world-cla.s.s surgery. Couldn’t you see it? Even if you’re not an interventional doctor, as the General Surgery Department’s Chief Surgeon, you should at least have some understanding of TIPS surgery.”
Gao Shaojie could not be bothered with this kind of person who had the t.i.tle of Chief Surgeon but knew nothing.
Seeing Department Chief Sun’s embarra.s.sed smile, he shook his head and said, “The surgery was a success. You don’t have to worry.”
When w.a.n.g Qiang heard Gao Shaojie’s words, he asked with a confused look, “Teacher Gao, how did Chief Zheng pull it off?”
Gao Shaojie shook his head and said, “I don’t know either.”
w.a.n.g Qiang was shocked. He could not understand how the surgery was successful. It was actually quite embarra.s.sing. However, if he did not understand it then that was just how it went. Despite that, how could Teacher Gao not know either?
“This is what we need to learn. I didn’t expect that after studying for a whole day yesterday I wouldn’t be able to understand it today. I thought I had a rough idea of how it worked.” Gao Shaojie sighed.
At this moment, Professor Rudolf Wagner had finished bandaging the patient. He had already recovered from his stunned state. When he glanced at Zheng Ren, he did not see him and felt anxious.
The professor had a lot of things he wanted to say to Zheng Ren, the feeling similar to the time when he was chasing after a beautiful Slavic girl many years ago.
“Haha, guys. I’m not sure of all your names but please come and a.s.sist me.” Professor Rudolf Wagner was the Champion of the Operating Theater in Heidelberg University Medical Center. He stood in front of the operating table and ordered people around.
Department Chief Sun was the first to react. He quickly went to help carry the patient with the junior doctors under him.
The professor did not care where the patient was sent. This was all work for the junior doctors. What did it have to do with him, a top-notch professor?
He did not even have time to take off his lead ap.r.o.n as he walked into the operating room. When he did not see Zheng Ren, he asked, “Young ladies… Where is the boss?”
Chu Yanran and Chu Yan smiled at each other. “He went to the emergency department for a consultation.”
“Then I’ll head over now. Isn’t that an unimportant task for someone like the boss? He just needs a minor doctor to do the consultation. Is there a need for him to go?” Professor Rudolf Wagner nagged. “A Chinese student of mine once told me that the Chinese believe in being diligent and thrifty. However, if the boss does such a menial task, wouldn’t that just be the biggest waste of talent in the world!”
As he spoke, the professor was already starting to get angry.
He took off his disposable sterile cap. His long golden hair fluttered in the wind as he silently echoed his words.
Professor Rudolf Wagner angrily flaunted his long golden hair as he walked out of the operating theater.
Gao Shaojie was still muttering to himself as he recalled the amazing TIPS surgery just now.
Yes, it could be described as an amazing surgery.
In his hands, the most difficult TIPS surgery in the field of interventional medicine looked like such a simple task.
Gao Shaojie still remembered that seven or eight years ago, Huaxi Hospital was the first hospital in the country to reduce the mortality rate of TIPS surgery to less than 10%. He used to be happy and excited about it.
Gao Shaojie still remembered the excitement when he completed the first TIPS surgery alone in five hours and fifteen minutes.
Gao Shaojie still remembered how frustrated he was when he had to give up on the surgery after failing to perform 25 needle punctures.
All of this was like a wisp of smoke in front of Zheng Ren. It did not exist at all.
He did not think about how Zheng Ren must have learned and practiced it over and over again. As a professional doctor, Gao Shaojie’s intuition told him that Zheng Ren must have mastered the examinations and surgical methods that everyone else used. That was why…
“Big sister, where is the boss?” While lost in his thoughts, Professor Rudolf Wagner’s voice echoed in the operating theater’s corridor once again.
At this moment, the patient had not been sent out of the operating theater.
Chu Yanzhi jumped out. “Ah, Lil Fugui, are you lost?”
The professor was a little embarra.s.sed. The anger from before had disappeared, leaving behind only an awkward smile.
“Professor, let me take you there.” Gao Shaojie stood up steadily and smiled gently so that he would feel less awkward.
The three of them changed their clothes and went to the emergency department.
Although Gao Shaojie spoke to him kindly, Professor Rudolph Wagner did not respond. Instead, he was pondering about something.
There were two times when he almost hit the wall or the pillar but was pulled away safely by w.a.n.g Qiang.
