The Emperor's Pampered Wife 44 Making Her Feel Royal

A gush of wind suddenly blew her hair away as she stayed bedazzled by the man before her. Her eyes loitered around his body which was obviously masculine judging by how it was about to pop out of his fitted long sleeved shirt. She cannot stop herself but stay rooted as he drew closer to her.

"Was that song for me?" he suddenly asked taking her by surprise.

After a moment of silence, Wei Yan finally found the courage to pinpoint what's wrong with the situation. "It is but, can we talk about it after settling this…whatever this is your doing right now?"

Li Zhao looked at himself and shrugged. "What did I do wrong?"

Wei Yan sighed as he said this as she looked at him from head to toe. He was strangely dressed. It was so odd she was unsure whether to laugh or to circle him around. "What's with the cape and mask? You're finally showing yourself to me yet this is your idea of covering yourself?"

A chuckle escaped from her husband. It was soft and somehow melodies in her ears that she cannot stop herself from smiling. "What are you laughing at?"

Li Zhao drew closer to her and gently tucked her hair in her ear. "Your cuteness" he said with a smile behind the mask. He then touched his mask and flicked her forehead. "Is it really weird? Don't you find it romantic?"

This time, it was Wei Yan's turn to laugh at his cuteness. Romantic? Was his aim at doing this to simply romance her?

Wei Yan grew up as a bookworm and her hobby was collecting romantic novels. She always knew that her fate was already decided, that she was bound to marry someone she was yet to know, but she never stopped dreaming that her marriage would turn out romantic. At first, it was simply her silly and wishful thinking that brought her to the hobby of collecting it. But over time, she grew loving how first encounters develop into budding love stories. She continued her silly collection and devised a plan to use it as references to make her marriage bloom.

But she never expected those were all useless against this stealthy husband of hers.

She gave him a smile and looked at the stars. He's wearing a mask and a cape. Most people will find it creepy, but what can she say, she loves mystery and this man in front of her is number one on the mysteries she wants to unravel. As silence slowly enveloped them, she broke it with her chuckle. "Well if you were the Phantom of opera and I'm wearing a Victorian dress, then sure it would be romantic"

After this statement, Li Zhao immediately pulled out his phone. "Get me a Victorian dress for my wife"

Whatever the wife wants, he will do anything to give it to her. Some may think he's such a silly lover, but none of their opinion matters, because he firmly believes that this woman before him deserves everything he can offer. "Bring it now"

Wei Yan's eyes popped up as she heard this. She immediately ran close to him and pulled his hand that was clutching the phone down. "Woah, woah, woah. Calm down. I was joking"

After holding down his hands, she looked at his face and finally noticed the oddity of his mask. She reached out her hand and touched it with her hand very gently, as though she was touching his bare face. "Can you see me? There's no hole in the mask, how did you get here?"

As she inspected his odd mask, Li Zhao was frozen by her touch. The mask was created by Makio and had only finished its tests yesterday. It was made to be quite thin and had sensors so he can feel everything. This includes her delicate touch making him shiver. Its been a while. Its been a really long time since she touched him with such gentleness. "Uhhh"

Lost for words, Li Zhao can only gulp down his saliva and wait for his heart to calm down. Wei Yan on the other hand noticed his sudden stiffness making her feel conscious of her actions. "Ohh, I'm sorry"

She was about to pull her hand away when Li Zhao touched it and placed it back gently on his face. "Its alright. I can see you clearly" he answered as he slowly closed his eyes to feel the warmth of her hand. Wei Yan can only look at his hands holding her on his face and blush like a ripe tomato.

She didn't expect this! She wasn't expecting this!

Her heart continued to accelerate as the wind pa.s.sed by them. They were under the moon, surrounded by flowers, and looking like a forbidden couple on a secret rendezvous. If this was a part of a novel she's reading, she would be holding her breath and ready to squeal for the next scene that's about to play.

Li Zhao slowly opened his eyes after a few seconds pa.s.sed by of his wife's silence. As the moon was at its fullest that night, he can clearly see the tint on her cheeks, the sweat dripping on her forehead and her eyes that was looking around except for him. He may be new to all this, but he wasn't a fool not to know what it indicates. "What do you think is behind this mask?"

When such words drifted to her ears, Wei Yan cannot stop herself but look directly at him. She stared at him, repeated the question in her head and a.n.a.lyzed it to the best of her capabilities. What does she think?

Wei Yan smiled widely at him as he asked this and slowly inched closer to him. "My dear, behind this mask is my husband. I'm a woman who sees past appearances, but I can already predict my husband is handsome"

She took a step back from Li Zhao and looked at the brilliant moon above. "You make me feel so special all the time, you pamper me beyond anything, and I can observe how caring and gentle you are towards me. All my life, it was my job to obey and take care of those people around me. You prioritized my safety and gave me some trustworthy people"

"I was always surrounded by pursuers, but none of them went to such lengths as yours that you'd even order a victorian dress over my simple joke" she added as she chuckled and looked at him once more.

"You're cute and very considerate I cannot fully express how blessed I am that I married you" as she said this, Wei Yan drew closer and closer towards him. When she was already in front of him, she suddenly pulled his shirt and without hesitation, kissed the mask with her eyes closed.

The thankfulness in her heart is immeasurable, and all she can do was pour it out on this kiss. After a good few seconds, her lips parted from the mask and she gave him a sweet and sincere smile. "Whatever or whoever is behind this mask will forever be my handsome husband"

His whole body froze as his mind slowly processed what his wife just did. Was he dreaming? What did she just do?

That was a kiss, right? She kissed him, right?!

After a minute, as his mind finally digested what had happened, the great and mighty emperor immediately turned into a blushing mess. His ears were so red from what his wife pulled and his heart was beating so fast he was sure it would have the ability to run away from his chest. "I---You---Uhhh"

Wei Yan can only smile at this. See? He was just so cute.

Li Zhao can only look at his wife in a daze and get enchanted as her nightgown covered in a coat drifted with the wind. He coughed and took a deep breath to regain his composure. As she was occupied by the light of the forest, Li Zhao suddenly offered his hands.

Wei Yan flinched as he suddenly did this and can only look at him with her eyes as big as an owl. Li Zhao smiled behind the mask and gently bowed down to his woman. "May I ask for a dance, milady?"

His hands waited for hers, slightly trembling from the event that played on earlier. The kiss that she did continued to replay on his mind like a ca.s.sette. It took Wei Yan a good few seconds to smile and place her hands on top of his. "Must I answer, 'you may' on this occasion, sire?"

A chuckle escaped from Li Zhao's lips as he stood up to take the lead. His most trusted Butler, took immediate action to synchronize his plan. Gu Man came behind the bushes and began playing the violin which took Wei Yan by surprise. However, she can only smile as her eyes cannot be peeled off her husband. He twirled her around like a princess and gently pulled her back in his warm embrace.

"Thank you for relying on me" he said all of a sudden. Wei Yan nodded her head, fully understanding what he was referring to. The smile on her face made Li Zhao smile as well, as both of them, danced around the garden like a couple straight out of Wei Yan's favorite novels. "I hope you can continue doing it"

She blinked her eyes as he said this and shook her head. "I will do my best first before I run over to you. I need to continue growing and I can only do that if you allow me to not rely on you all the time"

Li Zhao looked at her seriously and sighed as he saw the seriousness marked on her eyes. He had already predicted this answer based on how headstrong and stubborn this woman is with regards to such things. "Alright. But, can I step beyond the bounds and hug you?"

Wei Yan who was still dancing with him at that time looked at him with curiousity. Hug her? She kissed his mask without permission and yet here he is asking permission for a hug.

Oh no! Was she too bold with her actions earlier? Was what she did bad?

"Uhhh---why not?" she said as Li Zhao twirled her around. She thought that he would hug her from the front, but she was taken aback when he did not face her after the twirl. Instead, Li Zhao hugged her gently and safely with her back on his face.

"Wife, I am a very incompetent husband. I won't be always around you and my ident.i.ty cannot yet be revealed for your protection. But I promise to give you everything that you wish for. As long as you want it, I will get it for you. Don't feel burdened for the gifts you received, because you deserve it for blessing me this marriage" after saying this, Wei Yan felt his lips on her hair. The composed face she had earlier was suddenly replaced with astonishment and bewilderment. What---

Li Zhao pulled away and kissed it once more before placing his mask back, giving no time for Wei Yan to properly react. "Wait for me. When the time is right, I will take off this mask" he said and hugged her tightly before slowly backing away from her. "You are loved, always remember that"

Before he could swiftly make his escape, Wei Yan pulled him back and kissed the cheek of his mask. She smiled widely at him, her eyes twinkling in delight. "Thank you for making me feel royal"

A sweet smile spread across his face as she did this. If she continues this, he might die of extreme happiness. He nodded his head as she awaits for his reply and ruffled her hair before drifting away into the shadows. Wei Yan stood there, smiling at the huge bushes before looking at the stars shining before her. After a while, she touched the part where he kissed her and like a fool, smiled as she walked back to their room.
