~~C1 The Wind Raged Against the Ramshackle House~~
Zhuo QingYan hazily opened her eyes, as a flurry of snowflakes suddenly fell in.
"Ehhh??…."
Zhuo QingYan tried to move her body, only to find that her body was tied up and frozen stiff from the cold. She had no idea what was happening.
"What's going on??"
She hurriedly looked down and noticed that she was tied to a wooden post, shocked to see that she only wore ragged, worn out clothing and not even a pair of shoes on her muddy, stained feet.
What's up with this? Isn't this just a simple rescue mission?? She remembered that after a successful rescue, just after her team was to evacuate, they were unfortunately discovered. As they fought back, they retreated to the cliff, where they had come from.
As the defense, she was the last one to withdraw. But just before she could hook up her belt(1), a rocket suddenly exploded in front of her. In that moment, with a tearing pain, her body flew and snapped like that of a broken kite string. Then… darkness… endless darkness…
But, where is this? Was she taken prisoner?
Unconvinced, she heard the sounds of rustling coming from inside a haystack. Soon after, a thin figure popped out of the straw gra.s.s. To her surprise, it was a girl of about 12 years old.
Zhuo QingYan was stunned. She looked up and down at the ancient clothing in front of her. Her little face was stained and her eyes filled with alarm.
When the girl noticed Zhuo QingYan tied to the post, she pulled a dagger from beside her waist in alarm and hurriedly cut the cord off of Zhuo QingYan's body.
"Miss, MoYu has come to save you…to get you out…"
Zhou QingYan couldn't help but close her eyes.
To be out of luck, one should not blame society(2). Zhou QingYan would often hear her comrades talk about time travel books, but it can't really happen to one, can it? Can you be a bit more reliable? This joke is a little too big.
Immediately after her ropes had been cut, her body fell to to the ground. The little girl immediately came over and embraced her, crying in a low voice: "Miss……MoYu has come…..Miss, don't be scared."
"Who……are you??"
Zhuo QingYan had trouble saying these three words. Her throat felt as if it was being torn through with fire. At the same time, her head began to ache. Scenes that she had never seen before, came pouring into her head, confusing her greatly.
Seeing how much pain Zhuo QingYan was in, the little girl became worried, her heart uneasy. Her tears didn't stop as she continuously rubbed Zhuo QingYan's hands and feet, to help lessen the cold.
Just as Zhuo QingYan exhaled, MoYu said in a trembling voice, "Miss…. we need to hurry up and leave! Someone wants to kill you very soon."
"Kill me?" Zhuo QingYan spoke, but her scalp felt numb and voice still felt as if it was being torn and burned.
"Yes…. Miss… it's Third Young Miss . Hurry! Walk faster. Run!"
MoYu tried to pull her up twice, but failed. She wanted to hurry and felt as if she was about to cry. "It's too late….." Zhuo QingYan gave her a push, then exhaled.
Simultaneously, she moved her hands and feet. Fortunately, she had the help of this little girl. Now, she could feel her hands and feet. Looking at the stunned MoYu, she got up and pulled her over. The two of them stood beside the wooden door. She grasped the dagger that MoYu had used just a moment ago to cut her ties and held it tightly in her hands.
Outside the door, she heard the sound of snow crunching under foot. She closed her eyes. Three people. Among them, one was fat, because the sound of his footsteps could be heard louder.
The men stopped and stood beside the doorway outside of the wooden house. The loud, rough voice could be heard saying, "Go in, and take care of it. Finish the business and elder brother will take you all to get drinks and pretty ladies!"
"All right, steward Tong! Please!", another fawning voice said.
A foolish laugh accompanied the voice, "hehehe". The sounds crunching snow could once again be heard. "BANG!", the door was kicked open. At the same time, two grey shadows rushed in with knives. Upon entering, snowy light filtered in from the broken door. The men then noticed that their victim who was tied to the pillar was no longer there, only the severed rope on the ground.
They immediately looked around, and realized that there were two dark shadows by the door. While their blades sliced downwards, the shadow moved. The men; only able to see a flower in front of their eyes, could not see the person clearly. Then, a cracking noise came from their wrists. The pain was unbearable and made them want to scream. But before they could, their chins had been removed and they were unable to make a sound.
The knives in their hands had also fallen into the weeds on the ground. Just as they were about to escape from the wooden house, they felt their knees break. The pain caused them to kneel directly on the ground. At the same time, their necks were attacked by gravity. They fell to the ground, dead.
Zhuo QingYan slightly panting, turned around and returned to the plank beside the door in order to observe the fat man who was outside the door, cracking watermelon seeds.
MoYu stood in the same place, frightened with her hands tightly covering her mouth. She stared at Zhuo QingYan in horror and trembled nonstop.
Is this still her young miss? How could she be so powerful? Especially in this moment, her eyes were too fierce. They were almost like a cheetah in the night, cold and ruthless!
Outside, the fat man waited for a little while, but inside, no movement or silence could be heard. He impatiently spat out the watermelon seeds and said in a hoa.r.s.e voice, "What's the matter?? Guys??…"
He called out twice, but didn't get a response. The man cursed a few times, then trudged through the snow and came over.
The wooden door was once again kicked open and his large body darted in. When he saw the two people who had fallen to the ground, he felt something strange was happening. He turned towards the pillar and realized that no one was tied to it. He instantly tried to do an about face, however the door slammed shut before he could reach it. At the same time, he felt a pain come from his leg. He knelt on the ground in a panic. When he looked up again, a dagger was pressed against his neck.
The man looked fierce like a tiger, but was actually as timid as a mouse. His staring eyes were the size of bra.s.s bells, and his face was as white as paper. A cold sweat started on his forehead and rolled down to his cheeks. He shivered like a sieve being shaken.
In the cold winter night, the rundown house held a shadowy figure. One could see the slight outline of claws, teeth and hair that stuck up like pin needles. Bone chilling blades pressed against his lifeline.(4) If he dared to move even a fraction, surely his blood would splash, and he would be beheaded.
"Say, who sent you?"
Zhuo QingYan's hoa.r.s.e voice full of hate made the man's scalp feel numb.
"Th-Th-Third Young Miss…."
The man was so scared that he couldn't control himself. He wouldn't dare lie or quibble.
"Who else is outside?", Zhuo QingYan asked again.
"No, no. Just us three. ", he said with a cry in his voice. The fat man was extremely scared.
"To murder is to hurt a life. Who moves the hand?"(3)Zhuo QingYan's knife once again moved downwards. The fat man began to panic harder. He feared that the man-eating knife would eat him. He closed his eyes and stammered," I-I-we only listen to orders….of third young miss… spare me.
"That's right", Zhuo QingYan's voice was cold. It was like the cold frost of the twelfth lunar month. Resolute.
Notes!
I reeeeeally don't support the usage of the description for him being fat. I wanted to call him the “large man”, but that wouldn't be correct. I noticed that in Chinese novels, they frequently vilify or insult bigger people. I honestly twitched every time I saw the characters for fat/fatty(胖子). Perhaps I could use plump?? But I hope you guys like this! Lemme know if you do. This is a MTL and I used a b.u.t.tload of translators and dictionaries, so I did the best I could. Feedback would be lovely. If I misspelt or translated something badly, please tell me.
(1) Not sure what she was hooking her belt to. When I googled and Baidued it, I only got jade belt buckles.
(2)I have no clue what this meant. I asked and didn't get a clear answer. I'm guessing it was an idiom. I'll edit once I figure it out.
(3) Had a lot of trouble wording that in an understandable way. I believe she's threatening him and that she's saying to murder is a serious thing and that his life is in her hands. I may be wrong.
(4) this is out of order, but I decided to go back and be a bit more clear. Apparently it means that she was making a threatening gesture(knife against his neck). No pointy animals were there.
