"What a relief... I thought you were-"
The door to the bathroom was shut abruptly. It was clear that the two children did not want to hear any more of their mother's nonsense.
.....
Zhou Lei sighed.
'Why did the egg not taste good?'
With this heaven-defying system, surely, even though the egg fell onto a dirty puddle, it should have still tasted delicious as heck.
He returned to the kitchen, and there he saw the egg on the floor, with a bite.
"Blegh..."
Feeling the urge to puke, Zhou Lei closed his eyes and hesitantly picked the fried egg up. He walked towards their house's front door.
Zhou Jiahao was sitting on a sofa, reading newspaper, when all of a sudden, a fried egg came into his view.
"Hmm?"
The egg was being held by his son as he walked to the door with a disappointed look on his face. Zhou Jiahao's curiosity was incited.
Zhou Lei opened the door and threw the fried egg outside. His father planned on looking outside to see what the egg was about. Why did his son throw it out?
The fried egg attracted a single cat. The cat had completely black fur and blue eyes, giving the impression that it was a royal cat. However, that wasn't possible since it was just a stray cat.
Zhou Lei saw the cat and was immediately drawn in by its cuteness. He began to scratch its nape, making his way down towards the cat's neck.
The cat was pleased by the human before it, purring to show its satisfaction. Before long, the cat had already fell down on the ground with its eyes closed. It was moving its head to show Zhou Lei where to scratch.
Zhou Jiahao was getting impatient. 'This Zhou Lei... is too affectionate when it comes to cats! Well, it's not my fault he can't find a girlfriend to replace cats with... Wait, technically, it is...'
After a while, Zhou Lei's hands got tired. He patted the cat's head twice and stood up. Zhou Lei left and walked straight into his room with a complety opposite expression in contrast to what expression he had before. He had gleeful look on his face.
Seeing that his son finally left, Zhou Jiahao let out a sigh of relief. He looked to where his son threw the egg. The single black cat he saw before... had duplicated six times! There were already seven black cats surrounding the egg! Although, only the original cat had blue eyes, while the others had green.
The cats were glaring and hissing at each other, as if the egg before them was the only source of food they had. Suddenly, the cat with blue eyes meowed loudly! It seemed to have calmed the cat crowd down.
All of the green-eyed cats looked at the blue-eyed cat. In their green eyes, one could see a mix of reverence and fear, with a hint of envy. This blue-eyed cat was clearly the alpha!
Calmly walking towards the egg, the blue-eyed cat arrived before it. Soon after, it stretched out its hand, its pink paw touching the egg.
Sharp claws suddenly came out of the small paw, surprising Zhou Jiahao who was observing idly by the door.
The claws sunk into the egg, and the blue-eyed cat moved it in intricate ways. Before Zhou Jiahao knew it, the egg was already sliced in seven pieces, exactly one for each cat.
Seeing the exact slices, the green-eyed cats seemed to have cheered up. The blue-eyed cat glanced at all of them once. It grabbed a slice by its mouth before walking away elegantly.
The green-eyed cats obviously knew what the blue-eyed cat's glance meant. It was an invitation to eat!
As the black cats were very hungry, they naturally had no reservations. They launched their heads to eat the egg slices viciously. However, as soon as one of the green-eyed cats bit it, its expression softened.
Soon after, all of the green-eyed cats were like this. They hesitantly bit on the egg, while they were looking at it like it was a fresh sardine. It was obvious that they wanted to preserve it.
In the end, the all of the cats except one finished their meals. The only one that didn't finish it was looking at it intently, and meowing loudly into the moon.
"Meow, meow! Meow, meow, meow!"
The other cats followed in.
"Meow, meow, meow, meow!"
"Purr, meow, purr!"
"Meow, meow, meow!"
"Purr, purr, purr!"
Seeing this scene of egg-worship, Zhou Jiahao was dumbfounded. There were two reasons why.
One: were cats this intelligent?
Two: why were they worshipping the egg?
