In the empty void, Abium saw some light white clouds scattered in all directions like stars. He advanced towards the one which seemed nearby to him.
He quickly walked towards that white cloud, but after a few minutes, he noticed the weird feeling because even he tried to walk at a fast pace, he felt his form moved like a snail.
The gap between him and the cloud remained the same as before. Abium didn't want to give up early. Instead, he continued to walk, and after a long walk, he felt like it was like days to finally reach the cloud.
It seemed like a tiny white cloud floating on the void. When Abium reached the fog, the cloud a.s.similated into his body, then suddenly he sensed his mind got refreshed.
In the real world, he gently opened his eyes and observed everything around him appeared more evident. He found his thinking ability had improved a little.
Brilliant sunlight fell on Abium's face brought him back to his senses. He got up from the meditative state and walked towards the window.
Abium glanced at the street, which now appeared full of peoples. Many shops and workshops arranged near the roads, and he could recognize the time was around nine o clock morning.
He examined his ring and observed how much currency he owned and only discovered five silver coins.
Those coins were his entire savings from his childhood by doing extra ch.o.r.es.
But now he needed a large amount of money not only to partic.i.p.ate in that auction but also for many other purposes.
Abium first determined to improve his spirit and mana to build all the zero tier spells. Only then he could able escape from his current dangerous circ.u.mstances.
While he was in a stupor, he felt multiples eyes towards him from many directions. He narrowed his eyes. A few peoples stood near the opposite side of the street stores and watching him from time to time.
Abium could tell they were not viscount's lackeys because he knew almost every one of them from the viscount's household. His next guess was the order of the dead members, but if it were them, they would burn the town to ashes to capture him. Also, he could tell they didn't want to show their origin to the populace soon.
Instantly Abium slammed the window and went towards Helena's room. He carefully knocked on the door and waited for her response.
A running footstep heard from the inside, and a blue eye peeked from the tiny hole.
"What happened?"
A worried voice echoed from inside, and slowly, Helena opened the door.
Abium quickly turned his expression grave and urged her.
"Some people are observing us from the outside. Do you recognize who they were?"
"Ah! Yes. Inn lady also told me that thieves' guild members were up to something and warned me not to go outside."
Abium stared at her a few seconds while opening and closing his mouth, and he let out a heavy sigh.
He didn't know what to say because the thieves' guild background itself was mysterious to everyone.
The criminal gang members mostly controlled these thieves' guild branches. They mainly involved in activities like information gathering and sometimes thievery. Slum areas and other impoverished areas were under the control of these gangs.
But their main branch was a mystery to even the kingdom's high administrators.
'Why did thieves guild keeping an eye on us? Are they linked to the order of the dead?'
He suddenly felt more perplexed about the situation because of the thieves' guild's activities.
These guild members were the individuals that committed most crimes in every city and town.
Then Abium shook his thoughts and took a book from his ring then turned his gaze towards Helena.
"Thieves Guild members continued observing us indicates they will likewise attack us once we leave this town. But now this town was the safest place we can find so, utilize this opportunity to study this manual and improve your cultivation."
While listening to his advice, she nodded towards him, then caught the advanced cultivation manual from him.
After Abium told her to be careful of the surroundings, he went towards his room and continued his meditation. While Helena also started to read the advanced technique and began cultivation.
Abium repeated his meditation and entered again in the empty void and absorbed a few more clouds. His spirit form now resembled more like a humanoid figure inside.
He was now capable of moving his spirit form more speedily than before. At the same time, he also felt his mana also raised.
By the end of the sixth day, Abium observed his spirit and mana had grown stronger. So he considered building his first spell inside his mind.
He took the zero tier spells book from the ring and searched for spells suitable for him. Abium could only able to create spells based on his elemental affinity. Abium had a high affinity to darkness and fire elements and an average affinity to s.p.a.ce elements.
Every mage was barely able to build up to six spells in their minds for each tier. So Abium's option was to choose six spells from darkness, fire, and s.p.a.ce element.
Abium's main weakness was agility and defense, so he chose a spell that would help in most of the dangerous situations.
He first chose the list of spells that might help him escape in dangerous situations. First, he decided spells like Orb of fire, blink, blue flame, mind burn, dark bolt, fears touch, etc.
With those lists of spells, he finally chose 'blink spell' without any hesitation.
Blink spell was a short distance teleport spell used mostly by every combat mage. He only had an average affinity to s.p.a.ce element, but he firmly chose to learn the blink spell.
Then Abium applied his spirit to build the spell model inside his mind using rune language. It took him almost three hours to a.s.semble the Blink spell model. He inscribed 20 runes inside his mind to create the spell model.
Once he created the spell model, many crystalline particles started to absorb into his body then form a crystalline spell structure inside his mind.
Abium then transferred his mana to the spell model inside his mind, then he instantly vanished from his room and suddenly discovered himself outside. A wide grin appeared on his face. He finally managed to step on the path of mages.
He calmly studied the spell model, and able to tell how that blink spell allowed him to shift his body to any point within 20 feet of his current location.
Unlike the other spells, 'blink spell' enablesAbium to choose the exact time of his jump, the correct destination, and the orientation or facing of his choosing.
For example, a mage confronted by an enemy fighter could blink just before the opponent attacked, reappearing directly behind his foe for a back attack.
Once again, he used the same spell, then he disappeared from the place and reappeared inside his room.
He suddenly felt his mana drained a bit, but he thought he could able to cast this spell multiple times if he continued to increase his mana.
'Azolla, show me the status.'

Abium noticed his mana rose to 5, and his spirit rose only up to 2.5. Each time to cast a zero tier spell, he needs two mana, and to keep the spell stable, he needs two spirits.
Now with his tiny amount of mana, he could be only able to cast the spell up to two times. But it could help him in any critical situation.
He waited for the morning sun. The sun rose as a canopy of gold, bright amid the blue, bidding the stars to take their nightly rest. As darkness surrenders, every color changes from tinges of charcoal to a vibrancy.
Suddenly a knocking sound was heard from outside the door.
"Are you there?" once he heard Helena's voice, he quickly opened the door and called her inside his room.
Her dress looked like a regular adventurer and carrying large luggage on her back. He could tell just by the look that she already prepared for their next trip. Abium shifted his gaze towards the luggage then asked.
"What is in the luggage?"
"These are dry loaves of bread and some clothes. I also bought some things for you to, so you don't have to buy them."
She carefully examined his reaction and said with a chuckle.
"Besides, I already knew that you don't have any money, so I already brought other necessary things."
He bowed to her sincerity. Then he walked towards the large bag and touched his ring. The bag disappeared from their sight.
"What are..you- w-where is the luggage? W-what did you do?"
Helena jumped and fell from the sudden disappearance of her luggage, then stuttered in a fright voice.
He wanted to scare her a little but didn't antic.i.p.ate her to be in this much panic. But he didn't have time to fooling around. So he tapped the ring again, then the luggage appeared again inside the room.
"It's a magic artifact used for storage."
Helena once noticed the ring on his forefinger then realized what was happening in front of her. Silently rose up and dropped her head in embarra.s.sment.
Abium stepped out of the room then began to go outside the inn while Helena followed him.
When both went outside the inn, Abium once again noticed many eyes observing them from everywhere.
"ahem...' cough cough' you told me earlier Watson wouldn't make any trouble for us inside the town, but why are they following us now?"
An irritating voice came from Helena's mouth. Abium could tell merely from her tone she was angry at them.
Abium also thought they wouldn't follow them here, but he didn't antic.i.p.ate the thieves' guild even dared to watch them this openly. He hurriedly calmed himself and responded.
"They were the Thief guild's members. I can't figure out why they are following us, but I can guarantee those fellows are up to no good." when she recalled what happened during the last few days and how they were watching her even when she left to buy groceries and clothes an anger expression appeared.
Helena now realized the seriousness of the situation, and both advanced towards the northern gate hurriedly. Within a few minutes, both arrived at the entrance.
Abium noticed an old warrior who stood in front of them, blocking their path. He looked more like a knight with a sword on his waist and wore silver armor.
"Ha! Finally willing to come outside the room even when the entire town was in high alert. Boy, why the thieves' guild members are targeting you?"
A majestic voice came from his mouth, and his eyes were staring them like daggers.
"We also don't know why they are targeting us."
Helena responded in an irritating tone while Abium bowed towards the warrior and answered politely.
"I apologize for my friend's rude words, my lord, but we also didn't have any clue, Lord Baron."
When the Baron heard his words, he was little amazed by the half elf's formal speech.
When Baron learned the report about a half-elf and blonde girl entered the town and thieves guild continually watching them, he startled a little.
Then he sent out his men to verify their ident.i.ty. Within a day, he found out about Helena's identification quickly utilizing adventurer's guild information network.
However, he got no clues regarding the half-elf, even using all his information networks.
Abium had different thoughts running in his mind. He had never seen him face to face in the past life, and only he heard about him. Because he knew this, Baron died too early even before the arrival of the chaos era.
His name was Auguinare, governor of Dust gate town. A man who served as a second commander of the Peral army and gained the t.i.tle of n.o.ble from a mere commoner.
Baron won many battles against Wadel kingdom's invasions. Because of his numerous achievements to the kingdom, Margrave Eliot bestowed him the t.i.tle of Baron to honor his lifetime service, and he became one of his va.s.sals.
"What do you want from us, lord baron?"
A nervous voice reached from behind caused him to come back to his senses.
At the same time, a loud explosion sound came from the fortress region. Everyone startled by the explosion, and their gaze shifted towards the fortress direction.
