As they reached the plain giant shadows overhead landed among them crushing skeletons into bone dust and crushing the ghouls and zombies into rotting meat paste. As he charged forward at the behest of his master he looked over his should to the hills behind them to see armored skeletons, ghostly apparitions and a hooded figure mounted upon a ma.s.sive beast that was similar to a horse. He knew those must have been the undead that was like him that could think and act, except he was enslaved to the orders from that dreadful presence and was just cannon fodder.
Returning his focus to the front "s.h.i.t!" he cursed jumping to his right and landing on the trampled gra.s.s and dirt a ma.s.sive boulder crashed down where he just stood obliterating the skeletons beneath it and rolling forward with enough momentum to destroy a dozen more."I just have to survive," he thought as he rose from the ground and running towards the walls just a few hundred yards away.
He ran with all the energy he could muster in his bones, looking at the walls of the city he saw legion smash against the giant wooden gates, the gates creaked and cracked but held the undead at bay, against the walls the ma.s.ses piled on top of each other to finally reach the top to meet warriors clad in armor.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Looking back to the gate, three ma.s.sive giants smashed into the gate, they struck again and again and finally, the gate began to break apart. As he made his way towards the gate he heard a strange sound as a ma.s.sive fireball raced out of the gate as it reached the undead it detonated into a cone of fire turning everything in that cone to charcoal.
He looked at the gate and then to the wall and made his decision that the wall would be a better a.s.set to take in the battle, making his way to the wall he started to climb up the pile of skeletons. Like riding a giant wave in the sea he shakily got to the top and pulled himself onto the battlements.
Looking around he saw there was a soldier facing off against three other skeletons, pushing them away with a kite shield and swinging his sword toward there heads in an attempt to destroy their skulls, rushing over he grabbed a dagger at the soldiers' waist he ripped it out of its sheath and slammed the dagger down into the base of the soldiers neck, dropping him to the ground without ever knowing what how he died.
"Kyle!"
Crunch
After that shout, he felt something slam into him throwing him from the wall and down into the city, and smashing into a cart full of cabbages. Rolling on the ground and trying to get out of the debris of wood and cabbage, standing up and dusting himself off he noticed his hand was still tightly holding onto the ring.
"The ring! is it safe?" he opened his hand and there it was as if waiting for him to look at it once more."I should put it on, if I don't it might get lost," moving the ring towards his right index finger he slipped the ring on, nothing happened.
"That's odd, why was I so obsessed with this ring moments ago?" looking up at the city he saw the keep in the distance, he heard sounds of battle and explosions and screams that rocked the city coming from the direction of the gate, not paying attention to the ring or the black and green tendrils of energy making there way towards his skull. He was alone in an alley between a building and the wall, looking back at the ring to continue his investigation as to why he was so taken with it.
"Too late, Your Mine!" came a soft voice from the ring.
Plunging his energy deep into the skull he found the soul wrapped in red energy, wrapping his own green energy around it he devoured the weakened soul in under a second. Memories of the souls' life flashing past his mind.
Images of worlds and wars filled with never-ending slaughter, gaining respect and prestige with what was known as the righteous path only at the height of his power to set up a grand formation that would use the life force of trillions of souls to shackle what it called the heavens to his very soul, only to be taken down by the only person he told his own brother.
"How foolish to let your ego get the best of you, now your nothing but food hmm those G.o.ds took so much from this soul but that was to my benefit, if he had a third of his original strength I would've had to encroach on him for years." Looking down at his skeletal body he felt happy he could move. Though a little disappointed, he had seen what his maker looked like, and knew he was not very pleasing to look at. "That will have wait for now," looking up at the sky he spoke softly, "I'll show my maker that I was not a failure."
