In a relatively good mood, Caesar gradually made his way out of the palace while whistling a small tune. His suit was perfectly softened, without a wrinkle in sight, which caused his figure to look even more extraordinary as he walked toward the training grounds.
The morning sun was hung high up in the sky, heating up Rahvin kingdom with its summer heat. The knights and recruits who trained under the blazing sun were sweating profusely and beads of perspiration were flung out with every practice strike.
The older and more experienced knights directed the younger ones and a clear hierarchy was formed. At the side of the very organized knights, stood a rather tall and wide stone building, full of windows and an a.s.sortment of rooms.
It looked quite luxurious and not a blemish was in sight. Children of varying ages entered and exited frequently, and Caesar observed this from afar. Although most of the kids appeared to be of n.o.ble birth, the older teens seemed to be either peasants or a knights son.
Caesar then directed his attention towards the western side of the training grounds, where a large, desolate cart stood. It was full of wooden swords and armor, labeled "devil weapons". The handles of the weapons were riddled with blood-stains and sweat.
A small chuckle abruptly escaped from his lips as he reminisced about the good times he had shared with the knights. Of course, he planned to create even more memories with them, especially considering their rude behavior at the gates.
With this in mind, Caesar took a few steps forward and entered into the vast training grounds. The entrance wasn't guarded by anyone in particular and no one even seemed to notice his presence. In fact, he was only noticed by a few flame-bears stuck inside of their cages.
Their beastly eyes widened in shock, fear, and despair as they observed his walking figure. Even though they were animals, they still remembered the day when he had captured them and forced them to fight against small armies of humans.
Unfortunately, Caesar didn't notice the rather comical flame-bears and directed his attention toward the middle of the training ground. A middle-aged man with a cleanshaven chin and squinty eyes was currently training a batch of new recruits.
His hair was a deep shade of grey that was elegantly slicked back, creating the image of a well-groomed man. His appearance wasn't very eye-catching, however, he looked much more sophisticated in comparison to the others.
"Alright, alright, today we're going to go over drills," the middle-aged knight said, "since our marshall isn't here, I'm going to go over the basics. In our unit, we are basically frontal force, the ones who fight and die first. However, we are the wall that protects our citizens, as such, you should be capable of forming a shield wall formation within seconds!"
As his words ended, they seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. The young recruits sloppily formed a formation with many flaws, not caring about their training in the slightest. In fact, some of them were even talking amongst themselves or chuckling at a joke.
The young recruits were clearly n.o.bles forced to come here by their parents to gain some sort of authority in the military. If Caesar's proposition was accepted, then that would mean the financial, judicial, and military factions were now separated. As such, it was normal that the n.o.bles would try to abuse the system as much as possible, using their influence to enlist their children.
Alas, when you force someone to do something, it is normally done rather sloppily. Thinking to here, Caesar stomped his foot on the stone floor. A loud bang echoed out and a small crack formed, alerting the nearby knights and recruits.
Like frightened deer, they quickly shifted their heads in Caesar's direction. The knights and n.o.bles who knew of his appearance, stared in shock, while the ignorant could only tilt their heads in confusion. Caesar's red eyes slowly squinted as he scrutinized the many knights who he had not trained for months.
Their muscle ma.s.s seemed to have drastically fallen, not to mention the new recruits, who were utterly pathetic. h.e.l.l, even an obese teenager with his belly hanging out was currently present within the training grounds. Such a sight caused Caesar to slowly grow ashamed of his "prideful" knight brigade.
"This is what you have become?" Caesar asked, "in my temporary absence, our once grand knight brigade has become infested with lazy instructors, unfit recruits, and pathetic drills?" he continued whilst scanning the shocked knights.
The disappointment in his tone was evident to all of those present, "around a year ago, we won an unwinnable war," Caesar said, "your bodies were pristine and your fighting spirit was overwhelming. But now, all I see are miserable wretches waiting for practice to end early so that they can get their easy paycheck."
His words caused many of the knights, especially the older ones, to hunch their shoulders and look down at the ground in shame. None of them had expected to meet Caesar today, he was someone they feared, but more so respected. Almost like a father, he had trained, taught, and even fed them.
Seeing that his soldiers were not yet a lost cause, an indiscernible smile formed on Caesar's lips, "although all of you may have gotten lazy, it is not too late to make up for your past mistakes" His words paused as he shifted his attention to the overweight lad sitting on the ground, "first of all, you need to start running some laps around the training grounds." his words continued whilst pointing at the man.
In response, the fat man pointed to himself and tilted his head, "me?" he asked, however, Caesar nearly blew a fuse as he roared, "no, you were just so large that you covered the person behind you!" he said sarcastically to which the fat man breathed a sigh of relief and glanced behind him, looking for the person Caesar was referring to.
Caesar's original topic being absolutely derailed by the buffoon in front of him, he once again sternly ordered him to run some laps. "a.s.suming your rich daddy enlisted you here, I certainly won't go easy on you… start running boy!" he said.
The fat man begrudgingly got off of his duff and began running, albeit, slowly. After a mere 15 seconds, he was breathing heavily and sweat dripped from his hair that greasily draped in front of his face. "H-how, many laps?" he stammered for words as he asked Caesar.
"How long?" Caesar asked, "My training regiment doesn't hold any specific rules, you see, it is not a number I acquire of you, it is everything you are capable of. You don't start counting until you can no longer move!"
Crestfallen, the fat man continued running and Caesar could finally focus on the other soldiers. It wasn't that Caesar had anything against people with excess weight, it was just that he happened to be apart of the knight brigade. The warriors who fought on the front lines, if he were to remain unfit, he would be the first to die in battle. Thus, it was for the man's own good, and health, to start exercising.
As his gaze landed on the remaining soldiers, an icy aura radiated out from him. "We haven't had the luxury of partaking in a skirmish for quite a while," Caesar said, "I suggest you group of knights band together to face me and my personal bodyguards."
His words trailed off as a cracking sound entered into the Knights' ears, causing them to look westward. The large cage containing the flame bears was abruptly broken by some sort of sharp piece of ice, letting the beasts roam free.
However, instead of fleeing, they quickly grouped up behind Caesar and looked down upon the knights with a gleeful smile. As if they possessed human intelligence, they seemed to laugh at the knights and their confidence was boosted with Caesar on their side.
Their red, bristle fur, long claws, and gigantic head fully showcased their capabilities. They bared their teeth in the knights' direction, a deep hatred and anger rising within them. After being caged and constantly fought against, they could no longer tolerate sitting still.
Although Caesar's past wish of launching flame-bears wasn't possible, perhaps, he could truly form the bear brigade.
