Knowing her grandfather, she was sure that Mu Ruochen could very much likely to be still deeply engrossed with his books. There is no doubt that he was still inside his study room even at this time of the night
"...PERNÓ MÉSA APÓ..."
Mu Lingxi said as softly as possible. As much as she can, she wanted to proceed quietly inside the room.
Sneaking into someone else household was made a lot easier by her knowledge in the way of magic. Though the spells that she learned from school, she can do a lot of things that could easily stump a normal person.
Just like pa.s.sing through concrete walls for example. Like a ghost, she can easily barge into anywhere and pa.s.s through the walls of a building as long as she used the PHANTOM SPELL.
As soon as she cast this spell to a specific wall in the building, a ripple will appear on its surface and through that ripple, she can easily pa.s.s through any walls and enter a specific place without any difficulty.
Using that same spell, she was able to enter Mu Ruochen's study room without alarming anyone. Her movements were swift and silent like a phantom.
She walked and sat across Mu Ruochen's table but the other party did not notice her presence at all. It was only when she speaks that Mu Ruochen realized that someone managed to infiltrate his study room.
"Grandfather, long time no see..."
Out of the blue, Mu Ruochen heard a familiar voice.
This is the same voice that used to call him 'grandfather' lovingly. The voice that he longed to hear for the past half a year.
Lifting his gaze, he saw the granddaughter that he had been looking for all this time sitting at the s.p.a.ce across him.
"Little girl,..."
Mu Ruochen said softly as he stared at his granddaughter.
Just like exactly what he did before when he first met the 'transmigrator' Mu Lingxi, he speaks softly as if he was afraid that his granddaughter will be frightened if he will raise his voice a little more.
There were countless words that he had thought that he would ask when they finally met, but in this moment of reunion, Mu Ruochen found himself at loss for words.
All those feelings and antic.i.p.ation that overflowed in this moment of reunion left his mind completely blank. He couldn't find the right words to convey what he wanted to say at this moment.
He wanted to ask how has she been...
He wanted to know why did she leave them?? Where did she go??? If she was eating regularly??? If she suffered any hardships this past half a year??? If there is anyone who dared to bully her???
He wanted to know if this granddaughter of his hated him for what he had said back then??
If she hated her grandfather for marrying her off to a stranger without even getting her consent...
He wanted to know everything and asked a lot of things.
But all those questions were caught behind his throat as the old man choked in his sadness and tried his best to hold back his tears.
She sure must have hated him a lot. After all, he had been harsh with his words back then. But that is because he wanted to send her off to the palace right away.
Because he believed that it was the safest place for her.
With the royal family as her backing, she will be a lot safer there. Rather than staying with a useless hag-like him, she better stay with someone who can protect her properly.
He promised his late son and his daughter-in-law that he will take care of their daughter for their stead.
But he still failed to fulfill his words. His granddaughter almost died without him even knowing about it.
It was during the time when they almost lost contact with the young miss for an entire day. Only for the young miss return that night with blood all over her body.
When he investigated the matter he found out that Mu Lingxi fell into a cliff that day. It was surely not an accident. Someone wants her dead!
Until now, he was still left wondering how did his granddaughter manage to survive that day. With such an amount of blood loss as well as the height of the cliff, everyone would have fallen to their death.
That is when he decides to do something as to haste the process of sending his granddaughter at the royal palace where she will be safer.
Only the royal family can secure her safety. If he could be able to send her under their wings, he could be able to put her away from the clutches of those who would want her dead.
He was scared that the thing that he was most afraid of will eventually come true.
He was afraid that someone managed to uncover the truth behind the incident that happened 18 years ago.
He was afraid that someone could be plotting against Mu Lingxi's life.
He was afraid that the curse that was cast upon his grandaughter was not exactly lifted away as they expected.
If the other party knew that he is doing all of this for her sake.
If she only knew that this is all for her own safety.
He just wanted to protect her.
His only keepsake
His beloved granddaughter.
When Mu Lingxi saw the sadness in her grandfather's eyes, her heart broke into a thousand pieces. Her eyes swam in tears the more she looked at Mu Ruochen.
She knew well enough that the reason behind those tears that he was trying hard to hold back is she.
The granddaughter that left her dotting grandfather to follow her own will.
The young miss of the Mu clan who runs away to her responsibility to the family.
All those feelings of pain and hate that she kept in her heart for thinking how selfish her family is for using her as a p.a.w.n for their pursuit of power, it all melted away.
All those feelings of betrayal for thinking that the only man that she treated as her family is only using her to achieve his personal goals and selfish gains, all of them were replaced by longing.
As she stared back at the old man who obviously loves her as a family. A FAMILY
"I'm sorry---"
Both the granddaughter and grandfather said at the same time.
"I'm sorry for implicating the whole clan."
Mu Lingxi continued.
"I'm sorry for leaving that night without saying goodbye to you. But grandpa, please understand that I just want to live my life the way I wanted it to be. I don't want anyone to dictate me how I should live my life. So I left, and I never regret doing it. I'm happy and I'm doing well, grandfather. So please don't worry about me anymore."
"I'm glad to hear that you're okay, my little girl. Please live your life happy and safe. Our clan is doing good on its won, don't worry much about t. If you want to return, know that grandfather is always here to welcome you."
Mu Ruochen said as he looked expectantly at Mu Lingxi. He was scared that once he blinked his eyes, she will be gone again. Just like what he usually experiences whenever he misses her.
This granddaughter of his seemed to grow more matured by just half a year of absence. She now looked more like an exact replica of her mother. But the way she speaks and carries herself is exactly just like her father.
"Grandfather, I came here not because I wanted to return to the clan. I came here because I want to know the truth."
Mu Lingxi said with conviction. From the way she said it, it was as if she was saying that there is no way for negotiation about this.
What she needs is the truth, and the truth is what she must get.
"I want to know what happen to my parents. The truth behind the incident that happened 18 years ago."
When Mu Ruochen heard Mu Lingxi said that, it was as if a cold bucket of water was poured over his head.
Just this morning a group of warlocks was asking him that same question. When he heard the matter being brought into light again after almost two decades, a great sense of foreboding strike him.
He fears that the thing that he had been hiding all these years will be exposed. He feared that he won't be able to fulfill his promise on his late son and daughter-in-law.
"Little girl, I know that a day like this will eventually come. But I never imagined that it will be this soon. I was even planning to hide it until my last day. But it seemed that I won't be able to do it anymore."
If possible, Mu Ruochen doesn't wish to talk about it anymore. He doesn't want any other soul to know about what happened.
The fewer people who know about that secret, the safer Mu Lingxi will be.
The less she knew about her ident.i.ty, the better it is for Mu Lingxi
"Grandfather?! Why did you have to hide the truth to me?? I deserve to know them. Tell me the truth!!!!"
"Because I want to protect you!"
