Even if Fan Lei had not said such words, the crowd would have been too frightened to even remain around the oasis anymore. Much more, drink the water from it.
Death was not that frightening of a concept to them.
But to be burned down into yellow sand, such that every last trace of their existence would vanish… This was an extremely sinister way of dying that they could not even bear the thought of.
Unlike the rest of the crowd, Mu Lingxi and her cat did not back out of the oasis.
The group watched in bafflement as Su Yan (Mu Lingxi) together with his cat walked up to the heap of sand remaining of the fallen warlocks just a while ago and pinched a handful of it up.
Mu Lingxi leaned to it and examined the sand closely before placing it in front of her cat.
Ja.n.u.s sniffed the sand in Mu Lingxi's hand.
After they had finished examining the sand grains, Mu Lingxi began walking around the perimeter of the oasis with a tight-knit between her brows.
The cold air was emanating from the oasis before her. Standing beside it, Mu Lingxi could not feel the slightest hint of heat despite being in the midst of a sweltering desert.
At the same time, the lake was also extraordinarily clear. It looked so innocent that it did not seem to have anything to do with the flames that had killed the three warlocks earlier.
Following their friend's lead, Chan Gu and the others also approached the oasis
Despite scanning the perimeter of the oasis, Mu Lingxi and the rest of the group was still unable to find anything peculiar about it.
There were also no animals or the like within the oasis, so the matter could not really be attributed to anything else.
Seeing that they had reached an impa.s.se, Mu Lingxi walked up to the oasis and scooped up the water, just like what the three warlocks had done earlier.
"Su Yan, be careful!"
Seeing that Su Yan (Mu Lingxi) had scooped up the water, everyone leaped in fright.
"It's fine!"
Mu Lingxi rea.s.sured them with a smile.
Looking at the clear water that she had scooped up in her both hands she was unable to find anything wrong with it.
Perplexed, she placed it next to her cat and have Ja.n.u.s sipped a mouthful of the water.
"Su Yan! What are you doing?!!!!"
When Long Yue saw what Mu Lingxi did, he was totally flabbergasted that he almost wanted to tug at his hair.
You see it for yourself how those warlocks who drank the water were turned into a pile of sand after consuming the water from that same oasis.
Just what exactly did their friend was trying to do??
How big of a grudge does she have to her pet cat to do that???!!!
Could it be that she secretly hates her cat and decided to kill it once and for all???
But that is way true cruel!!!
To kill your own pet with your own hands. Long Yue can't imagine doing the same thing to her beloved Luna.
But before they could digest what was happening before them, Su Yan (Mu Lingxi) scooped another water from the oasis and this time, it was she who took a sipped on the water!!!
The faces of Long Yue and the rest of their friends turned pale in horror upon seeing the unbelievable sight before them.
The three warlocks had died shortly after drinking the water.
What were they supposed to do if something happened to Su Yan as well???
It is not that Mu Lingxi was acting brave testing the water by herself nor she wanted to kill Ja.n.u.s.
Due to certain reasons and his origin, Ja.n.u.s has confidence that just mere water from an oasis somewhere was not enough to poison him to death.
As such he instructed his master to scoop water for him so he can test it out to himself. It was only after hearing from her cat that the water is safe to drink that Mu LIngxi tried it to herself
Swallowing the water did alleviate her thirst. Squatting quietly on the spot, Mu Lingxi focused her attention intently on the internal state of her body for any changes.
But even after waiting for a while, nothing happened at all. It is just like what her cat said. The water is safe to drink.
But if it is not the water that turned the three warlocks into a pile of yellow sand, what could it be???
"Su Yan, are you fine?"
Yun Xue asked carefully. Deep worry seemed to reflect both on his eyes and the tone of his voice when he asked that.
It was the first time after Yun Xue started acting weird and avoided her that he talked to Mu Lingxi directly again.
Seeing that there was no white smoke puffing out of the friend's head, and there was no cry of agony either, Long Yue and the others heaved a sigh of relief.
"I'm fine!"
Mu Lingxi replied with a slight nod.
"The water is safe to drink and it was effective in quenching one's thirst. Have your fill."
Mu Lingxi offered them the water after ensuring that there s nothing wrong in the water of the oasis.
Since nothing happened to Mu Lingxi even after drinking the water, the rest of the group also scooped the water from the oasis and drank a few mouthfuls of it.
As expected, their thirst was immediately quenched and they feel more revitalized.
The dehydration from their prolonged exposure under the scorching heat of the sun not just burned their skin but also burned their strength.
But after drinking the water from the oasis, they felt more relieved.
"That's a relief. It was really a horrifying sight to see a living person being reduced to yellow sand. If not for the fact that I have traveled here together with them, I would have thought that they were sandmen in disguise!"
When the group of warlocks finally felt their full strength returning to them, Jia Chang remarked fearfully after some time.
"Sandman in disguise? Being reduced into yellow sand…"
A flash sparked through Fan Lei's mind as a thought surfaced in his head.
He quickly turned to Jia Chang and asked,
"You said earlier that your group only found a sandman after traveling for four hours. In other words, you didn't encounter any sandmen in the first four hours at all, did you?"
"Hmm? Yeah, that's right!"
Jia Chang was slightly taken aback by Fan Lei's abrupt question, but he still swiftly nodded affirmatively in response.
From the moment they were teleported by the portal out from the Plufwarts School of Spell, they had been in the midst of this desert land already.
There was no danger at all initially, but in the fourth hour, they suddenly encountered a sandman. They had mentioned this right from the moment they met, so it was not a secret at all.
"To only meet a sandman in the fourth hour… Could it be that the sandmen are actually the remains of the dead warlocks?"
Fan Lei murmured with a grim look in his eyes.
If the enchanter was really in a hiding and was trying to attack the warlocks present in the desert through enchanting sandman, it was weird that the sandman only appeared after four hours.
Why did the enchanter wait for four hours before making its move?
Could it be that another group of warlocks had found the oasis within that four hours and became the first group of sandmen??!!
If that was really the case, then that could explain the footprints that they saw upon arriving at the oasis.
"Remains of dead warlocks?"
The crowd was stunned and their jaws almost fell on the ground due to shock.
Thinking about it, everything seemed to fit together. As horrifying as the idea was, it was actually plausible!
The three warlocks had been reduced to sand after their death, which was the very reason that they had thought about sandmen in the first place!
"It's no wonder why the sandmen that we encountered on our way know how to counterspells and possessed some magic with them."
Long Yue widened his eyes in realization.
Previously, they had been perplexed by how the sandmen were able to easily block most of their spells and could even use magic to counter their attack.
From the looks of it, it seemed like the sand that had made up those sandmen was not ordinary sand but the corpses of warlocks!
In other words, the sandmen that they had been fighting with all that while were actually the warlocks who had been reduced to sand by the oasis!
In other words… they had been fighting the dead!
