"Who cares about what they say!" Ethan shouted at Owen's face one lunch. "Do you care?"
"Nope." Owen shook his head. "Who cares what others say."
Several weeks have ended since their first trip. After returning Ethan and Owen continued the bond they formed on the first, and only night, in the tent.
"Alright, freaks?" A guy said as he walked pa.s.sed.
Although they still spoke as if they were friends, they were outcast for no reason. Teenagers don't need a reason to hate someone. They never have and they never will. Typically, it's jealousy. Teenage years are a fragile time for someone's ego. Anyone that threatens their land must be attacked.
"Who cares," Ethan said continuing to move on. "Let's go somewhere else."
Owen followed as Ethan tried to find a place outside on the field where they could occupy their base of operations. Everywhere they looked was taken by someone that was in the older years. Being the new people at school meant they were getting stares wherever they went. They were tiny compared to how they would end up being. Almost cute.
"Go away, creep," one guy said, kicking them out of the back of the field.
"Alright… d.i.c.khead…" Ethan whispered as he tactically left at a rapid speed.
"Lunch is going to end…" Owen said, tired from all the running. "Who cares where we stay."
"I do," Ethan said. "We will spend our lives in that spot. We will have memories in that spot and we will never forget that spot. When we grow older, When we have kids, not together; obviously, they will play at that spot and think of all the good memories they will make."
Owen stared at Ethan with the first look of disgust. It was the first of many that would appear in his lifetime.
"Hey, guys." Sean jumped in coming over. "What's up?"
"Just talking about where to set up our task force home base." Ethan smugly said trying to not leak information.
"Sounds cool. Why not behind the diner by the entrance?"
"GREAT IDEA!" Owen screamed hoping to end this game that would never end. "Let's go there," he said pushing everyone.
"Why's he with those s.h.i.tbags?" A voice called out.
"Maybe it's a charity thing?" Another voice said.
"You know, Sean," Ethan said. "You don't have to hang around with us if you don't want to."
"What do you mean?" He replied.
"If it hurts your image to be around us then we don't care if you leave us."
"Oh...ok…" Sean didn't argue with it. He could see the pain in Ethan's face and decided to leave. Even as the days continued he tried to keep his interaction with them to as little as possible.

The weeks continued to progress with the treatment only getting worse.
"Who wrote this on my desk?" Ethan said looking around at his cla.s.s that wasn't making eye contact with him.
"Maybe it's some cool kid," Owen said. "They can't even spell b.i.t.c.h correctly."
"Want some help with that?" A voice said from behind Owen as it poured water on him before running off laughing.
"How funny…" Owen said wiping his face. "Sniff… Sniff…"
"It's ok, Owen," Ethan said helping him clean up. "Forget about them."
"Yeah…"
This treatment continued. Before school they would get dirt thrown at them, after school they would get pushed around and their clothes would get dirty. It became a routine for Ethan to stop round Owen's on his way back from school so he could clean his clothes. As his parents were always at work, neither families found out.

The following day, Owen walked around school listening to all the rumours and new insults he would hear. Each day would bring new treatment and he would end up losing sleep thinking about it.
"What lazy s.h.i.tbags." A voice said.
"Yeah, can't stand people like them?" another voice said.
"What do you mean?" someone else added, a voice that sounded familiar to Owen.
He snuck up as close as he could to the source of the noise. As he was used to it he was good at isolating sounds and figuring out who said what.
"They deserve all the pain they get, riding off other's shoulders." The voice said again.
Owen continued to listen and was eventually approached by Ethan who was curious and also stuck to the wall, listening in.
"I don't think that's fair." The familiar voice said on the other side of the wall.
"Is that Sean's voice?" Ethan said.
"Shush." Owen silenced him.
"Why not? The way they don't talk to anyone. It's like they are looking down on us."
"I don't think that's true," Sean said. "If you talk to them you'll see they are-"
"Are you defending them? Why defend them? Did they blackmail you?"
"What? NO!" Sean said.
"Then why protect them? Honestly, some people in this school are on the scale and those people are clearly on it."
Sean listened to each insult, as did Ethan and Owen. Although the verbal ones never bothered them, it was lying to say they were fine with the physical ones.
"And Another thing-"
WACK!
Sean, not able to hold back any longer, threw his fist at the guy who wouldn't stop obsessing about other people.
WACK
He hit him again, and again. Whilst the guy kept crying.
"STOP TALKING s.h.i.t ABOUT MY FRIENDS!" Sean screamed as the guy ran off with his group.
Sean watched as they ran off round the corner Owen and Ethan were hiding at. They looked at each other and felt no reason to stay hidden. They thought it was only fair to show themselves now and slowly stepped forward.
"Hey, guys," Sean said acting as if nothing happened. "What's up?"
"We saw… Don't hide it." Owen said.
"Oh… err… well… um…"
Sean kept stuttering, unable to think of what to say. As if he was approached by the girl he loved.
"Hahahaha!" Ethan and Owen burst out laughing.
"Don't worry about it." They said. "Thanks for defending us.
Both of them laughed at Sean who eventually joined in. They spent the remainder of the day hanging out, laughing and bringing up embarra.s.sing moments from each other's lives. They didn't care what others said. After the rumour of the fight breaking out, they stopped the physical bullying whilst the verbal bullying died out.
Even now, 6-years later, the three of them laugh together. They laugh before school, during school, after school. At every time of the day these three are laughing together. Inseparable friends that would never break.
