[Monday, Afternoon]

"Do you want to hear my theory?" I said as I was being dragged around the same old boring town centre.

"What is it, Owen?" Ruby said as she clearly wasn't impressed with whatever I've done in this one minute of being with her.

"I must have done some pretty bad things in my last life. I mean, why am I always being dragged around this place. Maybe I'm a spirit and this is where I died. This must be my prison."

"Oh, you'll die soon. Trust me."

To summarize why I am currently being forced to do something against my will, yet again. I can explain that with three words. I don't know. I don't know what I'm doing here. Like always I'm in bed, get a text message and next thing I know, this postbox is knocking on my door and threatening me with a knife. Really, what did I ever do to our mail delivery service?

"So, first off I need to buy some clothes."

Oh no! Clothes shopping. I really did do something bad in my last life.

Dear G.o.d,

I'm sorry for any trouble I caused you in my last life. I promise I will be good at this one.

Sincerely,

A new follower.

"What are you walking so slow for?" Ruby said as she noticed I was slipping away. "KEEP UP!"

"OW! Yes, master… I shall serve..."

We walked into a shop I didn't know existed, either I've never seen it or I just chose to ignore it. The reason for this was because it was a clothes shop. I don't need to go to a clothes shop. I just buy my clothes online with the help of my mum. Isn't that what all people do?

When we entered the shop, Ruby sprinted at full speed leaving me behind. At this point, I knew I could run, I just had to. I tried to escape but for some unknown reason, when I entered the shop, all my energy was drained from me. Like a vampire had attached itself to me and started sucking away at all the blood in my body. This shop was draining me and all I could do was hope to find somewhere to sit.

I had to find it.

I need to find it.

I need the holy chair.

After what felt like hours of walking around the store, I found it. A chair that blinded me with its powerful seat that looked as if it was made from pure gold. A cushion that was made from the finest wool. The legs of the chair were a true sight. I could only think "Check out the four legs on that beauty!"

They were so clean, so shiny, so well defined. I gently sat down but I didn't think I was worthy, I thought I was going to be rejected by the chair for my impurities. I was expecting lightning to come crashing down on me but I was accepted. The feeling was almost o.r.g.a.s.mic. The seat I waited so long for. I can finally die happy.

"Get up, loser," Ruby said kicking the chair away from under me. "We are moving to a different shop."

"Done here already? Do they have a no demons policy?"

"Funny, but I've already got what I want. So let's move."

As we moved from shop to shop the number of bags Ruby was holding seemed to have doubled each time, eventually, she's become a bag monster, and we won't know what is her hair or what is a red bag.

"I have a question," I said randomly to strike up a conversation.

"This can't be good," Ruby said as she checked the various clothes that were hung up in this shop. "What is it?"

"Why am I here?"

"No reason." She said. "Just wanted to force you to do something since I won't see you for the usual new year's meet up."

"Oh, I see. Why won't you be there?"

"I've got some things that I'd rather not talk about." Ruby moved around the shop getting further and further away from the chair I latched myself on to. I was interested in finding out more, but that would involve leaving this chair.

"Must be to do with your stepdad, right?" I said casually moving behind her.

"Why does it matter?" she said, clearly tired of all my questioning, even if this was the first or second question.

"You're right," I said. "It doesn't concern me."

"Hmm."

Ha, my flawless plan seemed to be working. I knew Ruby all too well. If I said it didn't involve me she would always end up telling me, I don't know why it ended up like this but it did.

"It's just a little holiday away, that's all," Ruby said.

"Ah, that's nice." I said, "I hope you'll enjoy yourself."

"Thanks. I'll try." She said pushing pa.s.sed me to pay for the items.

"That's it. I've got all I wanted." Ruby said untying the chains around my legs.

"Really? It's only 3, I was expecting to be here for hours."

"Well, I have nothing else to do, so I guess all we can do is go home."

"R-right."

Ruby was acting strange, ever since I mentioned her stepdad. She's been more distant. More distant than usual. It always felt strange to me whenever he is mentioned. It's not like I should care, I can't do anything about their family. All I can do is watch as it happens, whatever it is I'm watching.

"It's cold," Ruby said breathing into her gloves.

"Well, it is almost the new year."

"Hmm… Time is going quickly. Soon we will be at university."

"Yeah, if you want to go that is."

"Ha, yeah," Ruby said as she picked up all her bags. "Right! I'm going to head off."

"Do you want me to walk with you? I can carry your bags?"

"No it's ok," she said with a smile on her face. "My mum is giving me a lift back. Thanks for today!"

"What a strange girl," I said as I watched her walk off in her somewhat cute red coat. I wouldn't say she is normal, because no one is normal. What's normal to one person is not normal to someone else, making the word normal obsolete. I don't know why, but when she left her smile seemed kind of sad. As if she expected something to happen today that never did. Maybe she wanted the end of the world right now, maybe she just wanted an item she couldn't find. I'm just a guy so who knows. I'm probably overthinking this. I'm sure she is ok.
