He was 1.85m, well-built due to his military background. Due to his position in the field, the military gave their personal appearance some slack. He had a rough black beard and long black hear. His most unusual feature was his eyes. Green and mesmerizing. He was a good-looking man but never really pursued the opposite s.e.x due to his personal drive to prove himself.
He was 28 years of age and was depressed. 5 years he was stuck in his position, 5 YEARS!
He was sick and tired of old men living in their old ways. They had to modernize. This was the 21ste century after all. Their tactics were old and predictable. Luckily this wasn't war-time.
He was making his way to a scientist that was busy with a prototype power source on for transportation, and in theory, was that it was supposed to last for about 25 years.
It uses the atoms in the air and siphons of the energy. Unfortunately, in practice, it was highly unstable. It worked on the premise of a permeable miniature black hole that siphoned of gas in the air and turning it into a solid matter that in turn becomes a gas again after a while. Like dry ice turns back into carbon dioxide. Sublimation is the scientific principle applicable here.
Working with a miniaturized 'black hole' had ma.s.sive amounts of risk involved and due to this, even if a working prototype was made it was considered too dangerous for field deployment. They decided to continue the project due to the fact that it has immeasurable real-world applications if proven successful.
The day had come for them to produce their first viable prototype after a few successful miniature tests. Corruption
A rather young scientist stood up and took him by the hand, "Good day, Lieutenant Bright. I hope you are having a great day." The man must have been no more than 27 years of age, "Same as everyday Doctor Rembrandt. Try and take over…" Annixon cleared his throat and continued, "Sorry, a force of habit. One step at a time, right? In any case are we ready?"
"Yes. I did some fine-tuning to the valves and did some minor calibration to the horizon-interference."
"Good, I guess it's finally the time we get to show the people what we got. Start it up."
A faint whirring sound started to emanate from one of the machines close by but was immediately followed by failure. Annixon took up a tablet and looked at the telemetry, "Ah, I see you overcompensated at valve 26."
Doctor Rembrandt rubbed his clean-shaven face, "Odd, could have sworn I triple checked that valve myself."
Annixon went over to the valve in question and turned it slightly to compensate for more cooling. Alarms went off in the background as the safety door closes in on him, Annixon pressed on the intercom, "What the h.e.l.l is going on Doctor Rembrandt? Is this one of your tasteless jokes?"
"No, with how much did you adjust the valve?"
"Less than 10 Pascal. That shouldn't have been nearly enou…"
The semi-black hole started to open, "Rembrandt, open this f.u.c.king door!"
"I am sorry. I can't risk the lives of everyone in this faci…"
"DOCTOR!", but it was too late as Annixon got pulled in by the hole, "Tell my parents I loved them."
Those were his last words.
A few moments before On a random battlefield in an unknown location.
"We are here. Right between Asegun city and Odwet on planet Vivimus."
One of the men around Jonathan looked at him in stunned silence, "That was oddly specific. Why did you include our planet name?"
Jonathan shrugged, "Don't know, and don't care. You guys are an elite unit tasked as a vanguard. I am going to use the 'Punishment of the G.o.ds' spell."
"It's too early for that one they aren't even on us." A series of bombardments went off around them. Jonathan smile, "Haha, I win you lose. You owe me a beer after this."
The soldier smirked at the comment, "That is if we make it out."
One of his fellow soldiers slapped him upside the head, "Oi, could you rather not curse us with bad-luck"
Jonathan glared at them, "You two done? Give me some cover. I want three barriers and the rest should use fireball."
Three barriers were erected in front of him as the restrained down a barrage of fireball spells on the opposing force who were driving odd golem-like machinations.
Both Jonathan's hands glowed in white fire. The spell had a high-risk high reward attack style. You are immobile while casting the spell leaving a person vulnerable but the damage was ma.s.sive, even over a distance.
A blazing white beam of light shot off in the machination's direction. At the same time the machination shot of an odd spherical ball into Jonathan's direction. Two detonations went off at an almost identical time. The machination was destroyed. Jonathan turned around and looked at his team, who were shocked beyond belief when they lo0oked at him. Both his arms were missing. One of the soldiers spoke up, "Your arms they are gone."
Jonathan smiled, while he sweated pretty badly, "Tis a flesh wound. The barriers did their job. Unfortunately, I was only able to take out one. Fortunately, I was able to take out one. One less to contend with, and I am still alive. I say, good game."
One of the female soldiers spoke up this time, "You want us to do the calling?"
"Sharp as ever my, dear girl. Aye, it's time to go through with it. These abominations are going to wreck the city. The spell is twofold after all. The release of magic would wipe everything out in a few miles giving everyone in the city a fighting chance as well as send in a champion."
"That's 50 50 at best. We might get the worst kind of human being in existence."

Jonathan smiled at him, "You have me. I will pray to the G.o.ds that they don't send trash this way."
Jonathan went down on his knees and started praying. He couldn't make a hand of prayer and still, he prayed in earnest. The other smiled and started casting the spell. The tumultuous amount of energy swirled around them. They all knew they were dead. So might as well make it spectacular.
A ma.s.sive blast enveloped the area. Taking all the machinations with them creating a tear into the fabric of s.p.a.ce at the same time.
