Chapter 9 – Wicked (6)
… … …
"A cliff?"
"Well it is your life. You're free to do what you want, believe what you want." He said and sat down in a chair, "But should you leave this place, I'm afraid you won't survive." Her lips trembled as she stared at the bottomless pits of the cliff. If she jumped now, she couldn't determine what was waiting for her at the bottom.
"Want to try it?" he asked, resting his chin on his hand as he reclined in the chair, "Tried it once. Wasn't a pleasant experience, mind you, I was more fit before than I am now."
He's jesting. Yoona thought as she kept staring over the cliff. He's not saying the truth… right? She wasn't sure what to believe in.
She hadn't noticed he stood up, and approached her quietly, approaching her like she was an animal easily spooked.
"You reached out first, Ribbon." Wicked told her, standing right behind her. Yoona found herself trapped between him and the window, any further she move from him and she would be plunging down to an a.s.sumed painful, yet slow death.
"You also broke it off first. Ran away from me, and got yourself killed." He glared at her. She slowly turned to look at him, shaking her head.
"I don't remember that. I don't remember anything." She said, "All I know is I can't trust you."
What do I do?
Sensing her panic, and knowing it was genuine, Wicked let out a sigh.
"Shall we renew the contract?" he asked, making her look up at him in shock.
"… contract?"
"The terms would remain unchanged." He reached out to touch the tip of her silver hair, when they locked eyes he gave her a sultry smile, "Like I said, strictly professional only." He drew closer, "Like before, I will protect you with my life."
The turn of events was also baffling Yoona. She couldn't follow the conversation.
"I shall give you my utmost support, both physically and personally. I will safeguard you from any threats against you." as he began to speak, a red circle began to form on the floor around them. Red fumes sprang forth from the circle, wrapping all around them, "But in return you shall offer me, dearest Ribbon, your blood." His red eyes bore into her, and she found she couldn't look away.
"Blood?"
"Yes, blood from your veins." He said, caressing her neck. Freaking out, she wanted to move away, but the b.u.mp from behind reminded her she was lacking the room to move.
"W-why do you need my blood?" he quirked an eyebrow…
"I cannot survive without it."
"You - you drink… blood?" he nodded, and began to step away from her…
"Like I said, the choice is yours."
The sick scene of a red circle appearing and sucking the blood of the pagans came on her mind. She was not mistaken, this man was truly a monster. Yet, she needed to risk her cards, or else, she'll experience death for the second time.
She was so young but, she must act wise.
"Wait!" she called out, "How do I know you'll stay true to your promise?"
"Contracts aren't carelessly made in this world Ribbon." Wicked said, almost condescendingly, "Should a contract be made, the involved parties have no choice but to obey the terms of the contract. This is your only way of ensuring I will never betray you."
Yoona bit her lip in hesitation. And he watched her struggle as she made it, "Your choice."
She tried to think of the pros and cons of this contract.
She was stuck in a strange place, knowing next to nothing but this man and her body's name. in addition to that, many people want her dead, especially since she a.s.sumed this
Ribbon was a very important person, a witch of the Savat.
Yoona also did not fancy getting killed in any shape, way or pain.
One terrible death is already one too many.
Looking at him in the eyes, she needed to know one more thing before finally making the decision…
"I have one more question."
"Ask away."
"All these things you do, why do it? You're risking your life and all you ask for is blood. If that's the case, anyone else would suffice."
"It has to be you." he answered simply. It was his only reason. "I've been drinking it for so long, I've become dependent on it. No other blood would satiate me." Slowly, he reached out for her, grabbing her wrist lightly, pulling her sleeves back, only to reveal her thin, pale skin, "In other words, I've become addicted to you." his lips hovered dangerously close to her vulnerable wrist.
"Just one more thing." She whispered, transfixed at him, "I need to know one more thing."
She knew from the start she'd need his help if she were to survive or live here. He was undoubtedly strong, that she was certain of. No one else was more fitting for the role. They needed each other. It was clear, undoubtedly so…
"Your name." she whispered, "What's your name?" he stared at her. The red irises boring into her, "It's only fair."
Something in her words made him compel to obey her. They triggered a memory of too long ago, it made his body tingle at hearing those last three words.
"Wicked." And he opened his mouth, baring his fangs for her to see and bit into the soft flesh on her wrist. His fangs pierced the pale skin, and the magic circle glowed and the smoke began to engulf both of them…
It was only the beginning of a new partnership in a strange world.
