It was an exhilarating feeling, being this… powerful. Pity she hadn't discovered this ability earlier. Judging nothing else was left to be done, she turned to leave them be. Her business with them was done and over with.
That was until she saw something fly towards her.
It was a sword.
On reflex, she blocked it with her hand, earning her a deep gashing wound. Blood began to trickle down from the wound inflicted upon her.
She pulled the blade from her hand and cradled it. She then let out a gasp of pain.
There was a scream and people gathered around. If she made thewrong move, her neck will be torn in half. Luckily, only her arm was. .h.i.t by the sword. She looked around, trying to see where the sword came from. A man, a clear ally of the two defeated men came out of the crowd.
Wincing, she faced the approaching man to confront him. One wrong move and the wound could possibly end up as a severed limb. It would have hit her neck.
“A sword? Are you nuts? That could have killed me.” No matter what strength she had, she still felt pain, and having a sword to the arm was still awfully painful
“That was my intention.”
Yoona gritted her teeth while she retreated as he came closer.
Something is wrong.
Slowly, her vision became hazy, her strength gradually depletes. On a matter of second, her knees gave way below her and she collapsed to the ground.
The blade was infused with a paralyzing poison. All of a sudden, she was as weak as a baby.
The situation brought back memories. She died by a stab, would she die by a blade again?
“How- how can you stab me…in the middle of the street?”
Her senses were made numb, but she could well hear what he said next.
"With these many witnesses around?"
He must be crazy, it was the only thing that made sense for Yoona. The man, on the other hand, only raised a brow at her.
"It's normal for witches to be killed."
"Besides, even if I do end up in prison for killing you, I'd get out easily enough anyways."
How terrible were witches perceived in this world? Yoona tried to stand but she couldn't.
Helpless, she began to tremble and looked at her surroundings. True enough, the people merely watched, not a single soul bothered to interfere, or help her out of the situation.
She felt sorry for Ribbon. It's obvious now what the woman had gone through in her life.
The man picked the sword from the ground. Yoona could only watch, unable to move as she lay down on the ground vulnerably as the sword began to descend on her in a slow motion. But just as it was about to cut her down, something blocked its way…
Silence reigned over the entire plaza.
Suddenly, the man dropped down to his knees, his arm severely wounded and bleeding profusely. He seemed confused at what just happened. It came so quickly, so seamlessly he barely registered his sword being thrown off his hand. Slowly, both he, and Yoona looked up from the bloodied sword and up to the blood red eyes of Wicked.
Yoona could also see some of his bones jutting out of his arms.
“Uh, how did you….” she stuttered, the blood loss beginning to affect her speech
"I caught it. Your scent." He whispered to her.
It was her blood that lured Wicked to her location. His expression remained stoic, but Yoona could tell he was growing angry by every pa.s.sing second. His eyes gave it out; it turned darker the angrier he got.
“It's too thick to ignore.” Wicked said through his gritted teeth, his fangs showing the temptation of her blood.
Scents are hard to forget. In addition to that, the smell of Ribbon's blood had a slightly different scent, almost like cinnamon, so he was able to recognize it as hers quickly than anyone else's. The longer she bleeds, the stronger is the smell.
Wicked didn't appreciate how Ribbon, his prey, got wounded. He looked down and watched the blood trickle down from the wound and onto the ground. His red eyes grew cold at the growing puddle. Such a waste of exquisite blood, he thought. His eyes lay transfixed onto the blood for a long time, it was like he was stuck in a trance
It really is. . ." he trailed off, as he continued to stare, before he managed to reign in his own bloodl.u.s.t. Now wasn't the time.
Finally, he turned to Ribbon's attacker, and was pleased to see him trembling in terror. Obviously he recognized just who Wicked was. It was unmistakable. Not many people sported white hair and red eyes, especially since the white, or silver hair were a prominent feature of a prestigious clan. There were only few people who would've not heard of them in this world.
“Well, I just…So…"
He tried to reason out, but it was futile. It was only natural of him to be terrified. If by a while ago only a few cared to look; now it looked like the entire village came to see what was happening. His presence was enough to make a whole crowd stop in its tracks. He definitely looked like the devil incarnate. It was breathtaking and terrifying. Most of them wondered what he'll do next.
“I thought she was just a common street vendor here." The man said defensively.
“That I can't believe,” Wicked said with venom.
He growled dangerously low, clenching his hands so tightly that his knuckles turned white. "It's not that difficult trying to distinguish who's a street vendor here."
“Well, I'm sorry." Then he shotRibbona look of disgust. After seeing that, Wicked was certain he was lying to him. His contempt for Ribbon was clearly written all over his face.
"She's a witch! Killing her would be a favor to this land.”
And though for society it was understandable to want to kill a witch, Wicked was not the society.
He doesn't bend to their norms and cultures. He was also impatient and didn't care to understand where they were coming from, or whatever else excuse they've prepared.
Ribbon was gone for a year and Pagans continued to spread terror and tribulation to some areas of the Marzanne continent. Some people, especially those who lost their loved ones to the pagans had somehow felt abandoned. Thus, they formed resentment towards Ribbon.
The man wasn't even able to finish his speech when he finally disappeared. Yoona stared at
Wicked's hand, which held a red sphere, which she a.s.sumed swallowed up the man who had wounded her. Just like before, his magic left no trace of any body.
Grunting after he was finished, he stared at her and held out a hand.
Wicked then carried her by his arms and flee the scene. The two left and the people resumed their story.
Yoona, took his outstretched hand, and he gently pulled her up from the ground. He led her away from the crowd as well, eager to return home. Soon enough they finally disappeared from the plaza, and the people resumed their activities, whispering about what had just happened.
"So was there really a guardianship between them?"
"I know that the witch is really alive, but I've heard she died!"
"Impossible, she was just here!"
"If that were true, how could she have come back to life?"
"Sometimes I feel sorry for her. She was better off dead."
And just like that, new rumors began about Wicked's guardianship to the newly resurrected witch, Ribbon.
