"What is it?" He blinked at her, looking innocent. She was not sure if he was acting or not. It had always been hard to tell with him.
"Is the light still bothering you?"
"No?" There was a slight note of confusion in his voice that made Dawn want to roll her eyes at him. She refrained though.
"Then you're not wearing that." She twisted it out of his hands, and shoved it into her own bag.
Arrion stared at her blankly. Then sighed. "But it feels so comfortable."
"…" She gave him a look of utter unamus.e.m.e.nt. "I love you and all, dear, but I doubt you need something tied around your head. Besides, I like looking at your eyes."
She was pretty sure it was the last sentence that got him to give in to her. He even smiled and looked down, almost as if he was shy. Which she knew was an act. Arrion hadn't been shy in years, if he had ever really been shy.
But it was a little cute so she didn't say anything. Instead, she just turned away with a smile. "Let's go."
His hand suddenly touched hers, and before she could react he had entwined their fingers together and even lifted them to plant a kiss on her hand.
Dawn's cheeks flushed a little, making Arrion stare at her. "W-what?" It came out as a stammer, making her feel even more embarra.s.sed.
"You always look so cute when you blush," A slow grin spread across his face and he had a ridiculously pleased look resting there as well.
"No, I don't. Stop being an idiot," She looked away, darted her eyes to the floor.
He laughed, "But you don't blush that often, do you? At least I can only recall a handful of times."
Him talking about it was not really helping her to calm down her embarra.s.sment. Feeling vexed, she grumbled, "And I've yet to see you ever blush."
"Have you ever actually embarra.s.sed me though?" He was grinning at her. Still looking so happy with how she was not able to calm down enough so her cheeks wouldn't be so red.
Not wanting to continue the conversation she walked off, not bothering to make him release his hold on her hand. She was more than okay with holding hands with him though even if she refused to say so. Even if he had just embarra.s.sed her and teased her she found herself rather good without, despite her protesting.
Rena had made them breakfast. By the time Dawn and Arrion left their room, the woman had already placed it on the table.
The spread looked amazing. Breads, fruits, and even some meat was all laid out ready to be devoured.
Dawn tugged her hand out of her husband's and moved to sit down.
"Morning, younglings." Rena smiled, "Serve yourselves. I made plenty."
As Arrion went to sit down beside her, Dawn noticed several people giving him odd looks. It was the priests who realized first. Dawn was not surprised; they would be the ones who knew what those eyes meant very readily, being from Lumna themselves.
Miria after staring at him a few minutes, looking taken aback, turned and looked at Dawn and just gave her a smile. It was easy to tell the smile was one of her feeling happy for Dawn and Dawn smiled back at her easily.
Dawn was not sure how much the non-Lumnans would recognize the king of Lumna as they might not be aware of that dead giveaway trait. And Arrion was certainly not making a big deal of it. Though he was noticeably cozying up to her.
And the fact she was allowing it must have given people an idea of what was going on. Even if they could not immediately recognize him just from those unique eyes of his.
As they were eating Dawn became increasingly aware that something was off. Other than the looks that her husband was getting.
It took her a while to figure out what it was. And once she did it became glaringly obvious because of how abnormal it was.
The two rangers seemed to be in a bit of a fight. Oh, they weren't saying anything. But instead of sitting near each other like normal they sat far away from each other. Vixen too was not sitting with either one of the siblings, making it even weirder. Usually, even if they ate separately it was because one of them wanted to talk to the girl.
To Dawn it was obvious the siblings were close so why were they acting like they were having a cold war? She tried to get a read from their faces, but the two were both good at keeping a poker face when they wanted to. So instead she looked at Vixen. The girl kept looking between the two, a frown coming to her face and progressively deepening. She looked vexed at something.
