Arachnomancer 68 Mictiel Fortress

The vice captain of the royal guards took about 500 royal guards to mess with the Fallen Dwarves at Mictiel Fortress. I'm currently watching through a scrying pool that a few mages are maintaining. Scrying Pools are quite useful as they give a topdown view of a situation. Although they are very useful there are plenty of requirements. On top of that items that can block them do exist....

Thankfully, I can see the current situation. The Fallen Dwarves are using heavy ballista to take out any defenses on the wall while several groups of heavily armoured dwarves are pushing barricades on wheels forward. Behind those barricades are Fallen dwarves carrying explosive crates. Occasionally a catapult from inside the fortresses walls lauches a firey ball that hits one of these groups, sometimes resulting in a large explosion.

The siege goes on for a few hours, the wall has crumpled in many portions as the armoured dwarves smash through into the fortress. I ask the mages to refocus on the vice captain. The water in the scrying pool becomes misty and he and his guard appear. They are actually close to the back of the Fallen Dwarves forces. I can see piles of crates, unused catapults, dwarven alchemists, and several other dwarves that are probably meant to deal with resources. They must have planned to reuse this force on several other Union bases and cities.....

The vice captain sees a bunch of explosive crates. I can see the plan that is hatching in his head. He gives out a few orders for his subordinates to distract the small force that is guarding this forces rear. Honestly this is rather risky. The full force of this army is probably around 60,000 total including logistical personnel. 45,000 of them are soldiers with 5,000 elites with heavy armor.

Right now, about 1,000 elites are attacking along with 20,000 normal soldiers..... I continue to watch and eventually get bored.

"Wetho, Watch over the situation. I am gonna go take a nap. Wake me if anything interesting happens." Ravel

"Yes." Wetho

....

"Hope they all die" Wetho

Ravel POV-

"Hmmmm?~" Ravel

"Wake up! Something weird has happened!" Wetho

Wetho jerks me awake. For her to be fl.u.s.tered is not good! I immediately get dressed as the mages around the acrying pool are dumbfounded. I look in to see something incredible. The area where the fallen dwarves forces were is nothing but a crater. Molten metal filling it up as fires burst out of it at times. Why did I have to take a nap!?!?! This is amazing!

"What happened" Ravel

"A small force with some Pride Ogres burst into the enemies lines. Ogen was among them. Then the one cloaked guy who attacked our capital some years ago and a few mages used some sort of giant ruby to cast a ma.s.sive meteor spell. The fire that came off it's impact was even more ridiculous as it melted the ground, all of the dwarves, even our own royal guards who failed to flee..... They quickly suppressed the remaining dwarves.... The battle is over." Wetho

"They finally have the nerve to really fight back. Amazing! What about the force we sent to the Union's capital? Have they encountered problems?" Ravel

"No.... It actually went well. However, they couldn't find the artifact we wanted to get for Gin. It was probably used in this attack...." Wetho

"s.h.i.t! Well, that's no good." Ravel

"Should we retreat? If they are planning to attack us next..... We need to ensure your safety at the very least." Wetho

"No need to worry. I doubt they would try the same thing against us. First off, an attack like that probably can't be used repeatedly. Second off, we have many enslaved people from the Union here. They wouldn't want to kill their own people. Even for me. At worst they would send an a.s.sa.s.sin to try and take my head." Ravel

"Even that is worrying enough...." Wetho

"What I'm worried about right now is Gin.... He should be attacking some cities. I gave him that artifact to keep them from spying on him but, now I can't use the scrying pools to watch... I should have asked for his permission. I could have given him communication equiment too. f.u.c.k! Stupid stupid!" Ravel

I start pulling my hair in frustration. I'm used to preparing only for myself and Wetho's safety in case something horrible happens. Getting in contact with Gin in case of an emergency never even popped up in my head. Partially due to underestimating the Union.... They have changed....

Usually when the Union is attacked, they just endure it and hole up most of their people in forts, cities, etc. and stay on the defense. Both us and the Fallen Dwarves have been careful not to push them too far. A cornered rat will fight back..... Well, they did have a sneak attack on our capital a few years ago though. For a short succubus that I gave to one of the past kings that have 'ended up dead'.... That cloaked b.a.s.t.a.r.d gave Wetho a good fight but, she eventually chopped one of his arms off and he was forced to flee with that succubus.

He is probably the one who brought about this change in the Union.... A dangerous fellow.... However, he may have attachments to his comrades which can be exploited based on how he has acted.... Enough of that though.

"Wetho send our fastest scouts out to warn Gin. Something fishy is going on with the Union and I'd rather not take chances with unknown situations." Ravel

"Already did that. Lets just hope that they get to wherever he is quick enough...." Wetho

Gin POV-

After having my spiderlings cause a little choas in that city, we quickly fled. I hadn't expected to do that much damage.... A lot of innocent citizens are dead as well.... I gave up the matter of morality a while ago, although, I still will not cross certain lines. I had found that I was more upset about the change in my mindset rather than about the actual horrible things that I sometimes cause. So, I am trying to condition my mind to see no problems with these sorts of things.

Looking at a small map that I had borrowed from Wetho, I pick the next target. A small city, almost a town even. Should have under 50,000 people total. Let's be quick with it then. I probably should have asked Ravel or Wetho about a communication device..... How am I supposed to know when I'm done here?....
