He had a voice of a baritone - clean, vibrant and melodious. His voice felt like the waves of the sea brushing through the coast, breaking waywardly as they hit the sh.o.r.e.
The audience completely lost themselves in the moment. They held their breaths, as they were afraid that they might spoil the celestial sound even with the slightest noise.
The background music was playing from a lute. The music was soft and ringing, brilliantly complementing his voice.
When his performance ended, the audience broke into a loud cheer.
Countless pearls flooded the stage like rain. Gu Xijiu could tell immediately that the young man had good Kung Fu. He stood his ground even when the pearls were pouring down all over onto the stage from the audience. Somehow, none of the pearls. .h.i.t him.
Gu Xijiu was standing in close proximity to the stage. The crowd was cheering madly for his name and throwing off their money like lunatics.
As Gu Xijiu had no money, she could only stand and watch. She had a few b.u.mps from the crowd, though.
Lan Fei was calm and collected as he quietly observed the bustling crowd. The amount of money did not elate him the slightest bit. He clearly portrayed his outstanding composure and gracious manner.
Suddenly, he turned his attention to Gu Xijiu, and their eyes met. Gu Xijiu did not turn away from his gaze and smiled back at him.
Puzzled, Lan Fei raised his hand and signaled the crowd. The audience went into immediate silence.
"The lady…" Lan Fei suddenly spoke. "Are you unsatisfied with my singing?" The way he spoke was brief and adequate. His voice was very magnetic too.
Gu Xijiu turned to look at her sides, then pointed a finger at herself as she answered, "Do you mean me?"
Lan Fei nodded. "That's right."
Gu Xijiu responded innocently, "How can you tell that I am unsatisfied with your singing?"
"You were calm and only applauded once or twice."
Gu Xijiu was speechless as to why he would be unhappy about her not being like one of his crazy fans.
"I have no money," Gu Xijiu did not hesitate to tell the truth, her voice was clear and loud. "So, I cannot afford to throw money at you."
The crowd was astounded.
Mermen had a preference for luxurious living, so they were all rich. Even the poorest merman had at least a hundred pearls with them during the day. Moreover, they were concerned about their reputation, so they would not easily reveal their financial status. They would only show the good side of their lives and cover themselves with luxurious clothes.
Gu Xijiu was the first person to reveal that she had no money.
Lan Fei did not seem to give up. "Not even a pearl?"
Gu Xijiu gave him an apologetic smile. "In fact I have none."
Lan Fei was speechless.
The audience could not help but hiss. They had probably never seen someone who could still be so confident about being penniless. Moreover, how could she be broke and penniless, as her attire was n.o.ble?
A sudden realization hit lan Fei, "Is this your first time here?"
"You are right."
The audience hissed again.
"Are you here simply to join the audience?"
"No, I am here to make money." Gu Xijiu did not hold back her honesty.
Lan Fei could not hide his amus.e.m.e.nt. "How do you plan to do that?"
The crowd was astounded, yet again.
The receptionist made an announcement, "The young lady has signed up for the contest, too. Miss Gu, it is your turn."
All eyes fell on Gu Xijiu. The audience could be heard judging her by her appearance. They were saying that she had an exaggerated opinion about her ability and wondered why she even dared to join the contest.
